Thanks for testing, so Footej Camera works as a workaround for video recording with your Oreo ROM too. :good: It would be interesting to know why this camera app works and most other apps fail, maybe that would be the key to fix this bug.

Anyway, because of the same symptoms it seems to me that the video recording bug isn't device specific but a general problem of several Oreo Custom ROMs. IDK, maybe their driver architecture is too old for Oreo and needs some kind of wrapper or adaption.

If you don't mind, I would write about our conversation on the Xperia Z3c CarbonROM Oreo thread and mention you as the dev of the Galaxy SM-T580 RR Oreo ROM, so you could get in touch with the devs for the Xperia Z2 / Z3 / Z3c devices. With exchange of some ideas it should be easier to tackle this bug. :highfive:

Could you please remove the full-quote of the opening post from your post or at least put it into HIDE tags? This would make your post much easier to read. Thanks! :)

Sony Z2/Z3 are snapdragons .. we have exynos7870.

Since Nougat the HAL2 has been dropped ..either you have proper working HAL3 or need to use old HAL1 camera.
On other devices we have to use HAL1 cam to get it working at all.

For exynos 7870 they use shim libs to cover the problems on Oreo.
Not all are covered yet ..

Too many devices .. and too many issues ;)

How do get the camera to work for pictures on the T580 build because mine force closes as soon as i open the camera app. I've also tried footej camera and it does the same thing.
I will need to test on clean install too .. on my "dirty" data partition it works like described above.

I got the front camera to work if I can switch to it really quickly before it fc. After it works fine. This is on a dirty install. I will have to try on a clean install also.

Are you able to make video chats too ?

Lineage made a few changes for camera and LiveDisplay .. not sure what has been used by RR.
Just compiling a new lineage-15.1 version (580 - wifi only) for testing some differences.

Will upload the version later on .. if somebody like to play and test ;)

Don't be surprised .. it's still a RR thread !

But as mentioed above .. Lineage did some changes for LiveDisplay and Camera.
As I want to check some more differences I did made a fresh lineage-15.1 build today. (580 - wifi only)

Pls play and test yourself .. any differences to the latest RR ROM ?

lineage-15.1-20180421-UNOFFICIAL-gtaxlwifi.zip
lineage-15.1-20180421-UNOFFICIAL-gtaxlwifi.zip.md5sum

Changes:
- Plenty of kernel security updates -> thanks to @cschsz
- Latest LineageOS changes

Tested with Magisk 16.3 !

Of course, I made dirty installation .. no problem to switch between RR and LineageOS .. still the same base.

If you have installed Gapps and Magisk 16.3 the installer will take care and will keep all apps/settings in lineage too.
Vice versa too !
In this case .. do not wipe system, just wipe cache/dalvik before reboot into system.

If you use Pixel Launcher as default launcher you will not really recognize the switch after first boot.
If you use Trebuchet you will get "fresh" launcher and need to rearrange icons/apps, as they use different code !

Actually I do not much expect too much differences anyway .. (hardware button menu .. .etc.)

Pls let me know your findings and differences to latest RR ROM .. Thanks !

Happy testing ! :)

I've tried multiple methods in flashing and have had no success with the camera apps. What did you do?

I am not sure if I did anything. Open camera works alright using the front camera. I'm not sure if the back camera works for now though... I did try to get Google camera to work and installed a ap2 magisk module. I didn't get it to work, so I uninstalled it. Maybe that made it work.

Cool beans

Not at home right now but I'll try it when I get back. I'm assuming that I can dirty flash this over the current lineage rom you posted in this thread?

I flashed this yesterday, but I have issues with the USB connection, I can't do anything: ADB, MTP and tethering don't work. My laptop does not detect this device attached to it. I also had issues with ambient display (blank screen sometimes), but I see that you have removed it in the latest build.

P.S. I'm running the previous build (14th of april).

Yeah, the latest build does not have that issue, I've just flashed it and USB works fine. Thanks for the info.

Edit:
Actually, I've discovered the problem. ADB does not work and if activated, ruins everything related to USB. So, by disabling ADB, MTP and tethering work again.

Normally no need to wipe data - dirty update from previous 32-Bit version should work without factory reset.

At this time we can discuss about future 32-bit or 64-bit builds.

Due to holiday season the August releases will be delayed !
