By upgrading firmware, do you mean to update the full firmware in odin, and then twrp in odin, the flash the tweaked rom? Just want to clarify ( the update won't lock the bootloader right?)

A full update with odin is best, I did BL AP and home CSC, you should use the best country variety to suit you, your own or something close, choosing a different location may give different customisations but won't do harm.

Yeah, I know.
I attempted to produce one using the same method as the T820 rom, it wouldn't boot. Some fool made accusations I'd used the T820 firmware, totally false, if he'd checked, which is not that hard to do, he would have seen I hadn't. He requested the thread closed.you'll find a lot of people on xda who are keen enthusiasts, but also a large number of unhelpful individuals.
Difficult to test without having the device myself
The T820 rom runs well, somewhat better than stock. I'm sure I could have replicated that for the T825.
I removed all Microsoft and Google apps, then installed them from playstore as non systems apps, as well as apps like write on pdf

Thanks for this @rorymc928. It's good to have some development for the s3. Bench tests are only so good but on AnTuTu but I have to say I didn't see a material difference from stock.

I found a significant improvement. So I took the time to sift through the benchmarks I used in development.
1. Version 1.7 AQI2 base.
2. Dirty flash of 2.0 over 1.7
3. Stock ARA2
4. Final clean install and reload of 2.0 over updated firmware

These are all very similar to mine. On stock I initially got the 110,000 score but when I tested again I got the 160,000. Other scores were also very similar to yours. I have some time today so I'll play around with it done more. I'll let you know.

I debloat but this looks a bit extreme, I mean, there is a lot of stuff in there that is in the system for a reason, I'm surprised you can even boot the ROM after taking all of that out
Runs like a charm so farI debloat but this looks a bit extreme, I mean, there is a lot of stuff in there that is in the system for a reason, I'm surprised you can even boot the ROM after taking all of that out
Ok @rorymc928 after doing a fair amount of testing I'm a little confused and this will probably confuse you too. When I first installed your v2.0 tweak I was on rooted, stock ARA2. Before I installed I did get a total AnTuTu score of about 110,000. After installing your tweak it was about 160,000. I then restored the TWRP backup, with a full wipe, I took before installing your tweak. I restored, boot, system, and data. I assumed this would have brought me back to the condition before I installed your tweak. But at this point I was still getting AnTuTu scores of 160,000. So I odin'd ARA2, installed twrp, rooted, and then restored just the data partition from the nandriod. I still got scores around 160,00 which surprised me.
To try to replicate your scores, and what I think I had before all this, I took the PITA way and flashed firmware with odin, reset up the device, and let Google restore my apps. And this is what I got:
1 & 2 Stock ARA2, no root
3 Stock ARA2, rooted with ashyx's method
4 rorymc928 v2 zip

Does sound strange, I didn't do many stock tests, but a considerable number with 2.0,whilst "tweaking"gradually getting the increase, so that figure should be reliable. The drop down sections of antutu might give an explanation if you compare them. The screen captures I posted have them open for comparison. Of course I probably have different background apps, and I also did have them running during development.
Maybe when lineage gets more stable we might see a comparison from it.
I was a little surprised at the initial ARA2 I had, I suspect your initial score is more correct. I do notice these intermediate firmware updates seem to have a slight performance penalty, probably plugging holes.

How can I use it with Magisk?
I just put my hand on a test SM-T820, and I'm tempted by this ROM. But I prefer Magisk to SuperSU, and I can't get it to work. Here's what happened: First, I wiped cache and data and installed the ROM, then I restored data. Everything worked fine, and I had a fully functional device, but with SuperSU.
Now, I open SuperSU and used the "unroot" function in it. Rebooted, and got a bootloop.
Did the whole thing again, and reproduced the same bootloop.
Did anyone manage to run it with Magisk? I hope so!

When you have unrooted and it powers down to reboot do not let it reboot into system as the unpatched54g kernel will force encryption which gives you the bootloop - instead, Feb the screen goes black interrupt the reboot with the 3 button config to boot into recovery - or bootloader then recovery, just do not let it reboot - how you can search around XDA and find one of the many unroot zips that you can flash in recoveryI just put my hand on a test SM-T820, and I'm tempted by this ROM. Thanks for the instructions! I tried that, downloaded unroot.zip that I found here, flashed it in TWRP, but it doesn't nothing (the screen flashes and it returns to TWRP). Is there anything you can point me to?
Unpack the tweaked rom zip file, and flash the boot image that is in there in twrp, then flash magisk after that, it will work
