Since last week i created another version of CUBE_lean with a more recent superuser.apk (the usual one), deodexed, stripped down, /data/app etc...

I'm using it since 45h now and just gone below 50% battery. Very stable, stock kernel.

Gonna upload it this evening.

Hey...different approach I see.
For those who doesn't like the concept of providing flashable stock ROM, think about others who doesn't like going back to stock ROM via LGMDP.

Very useful, think I'm gonna download it soon for some purposes...
BTW, it's unbranded right?

CUBE and CUBE_lean are both branded so that they have the stock LG launcher app and contain some bookmarks you can not delete. But that's about it really.
The launcher you can change by yourself and the bookmarks just sit there.

If you want to use CUBE_lean than i recommend you wait till this evening. Because the new version i have is the better package compared to the first one.

So the user will have the original rom when they add the baseband and its always said to make a backup before flashing the new rom so they could easily revert. I understand some people may like the feel of a stock rom but if your going to bother flashing a custom rom surely there should at least be some tweeks such as removing ads without a app? a flash able zip for the apps would also be better so unwanted apps could simply be deleted before flashing... and no root?

New version of CUBE_lean is online. I'm using this version since last Saturday and this is the most stable ROM with the best battery life i ever had. It is stripped of the battery eaters maps, talk, and latitude and you can reach phenomenal battery runtimes.
If you want the apps back, you can get them from the market as usual.

--- CUBE_lean_v2

Like CUBE with the following changes:
rooted
up to date superuser
zipaligned
apps/framework deodexed
bash
with /data/app

It can't be flashed without a computer. It needs KDZ/LGMDP.

Thanks for saving me from bricking my phone. And sorry for the late reply.

I m going to use gingercricco rom which can be flashed from recovery and doesn't requires a PC.

Gingercricco is the same type of ROM like CUBE. Both flashed via recovery and both *do not* update your baseband.

The update of your baseband must by done via lgmdp beforehand. For this you need a PC in any case.

If you flash Gingercricco or CUBE without updating the baseband, you won't brick your phone, you just will not have mobile data.

best regards

Exactly.

I recommend the guide (and the files) in this thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141490

Follow the section

HOW to Flash the ROM [email protected]_2.3.3_v2
And please do anything as described there, because this part is the dangerous one where you could brick your phone.

After that, you can change to CUBE or gingerricco without much of a worry.

best regards

The language in the notification bar, USB Connected and USB Debugging are in non-English which I chosen.
Is there any way to change it?
Yes. On first start, and after language selection, this does not seem to apply fully. Just reboot once and everything works out. This seems to be a problem of the original v20g too.

best regards

Who would wanna flash this rom? Its kinda pointless innit?
There is an FAQ on the first page which answers that exact question.

In short: No. It's absolutely useful.

I created that ROM because i was fed up with all the bugs in the GB-Custom-ROMs. The wifi-bug in the franco kernel being one of the most annoying. At least for me.

I know this thread is stale and I'm dragging it back to the front, but I wanted to thank the OP with a reason, more than just the thanks button.

as far as usefulness...
I want to pick over some of the library bits of this stock GB ROM from a phone first cousin to mine (different CPU chipset, so binaries no good, but lib files may be of use since both thunder(x) boards.)
See, LG hasn't released GB .kdz or .cab yet for my phone board Thunderc, much less a GB production model to get a dump from; though its big sister phone with same hw board LG has released GB source for, it is missing some libs, etc. Cyanogen only goes so far there, some bits in those libs don't match new kernel.
I really didn't want to unpack a .kdz of the stock p500 GB myself just to experiment, so this zip format is very useful to me.
I'd have dealt with the .kdz if I had to, but you have saved me much hassle booting into the dusty relatively unused m$windoze partition on my computer to use software not available for linux.
Thank you OP! (and yes, I used the thanks button too, but I wanted to tell the haters another reason for this being useful... so thought I'd also type thanks as well as using the button since I'm posting anyway.)

thank you big squid for the positive response.

Since this ROM is doing farely well download wise (about 150 dl's since), i have some additional hints for saving battery.

I consider CUBE_lean_v2 a 50h+ ROM for the lg p500. With the following constraints:

- don't use UMTS/3g. 3G cells are way smaller than GSM cells and 3G needs more battery. If you don't need it, switch to GSM only.
- If using google reader app, don't sync it. Rather d'load new articles on program start.
