Help! After flashing the rom, it does not let me log in to the google account and I can not exit that screen, the message it displays is as follows:
It looks to me as if your phone had been previously used, then after wiping Factory Reset Protection became active. Google "what is frp lock" for more information.

I don't know much about FRP, but I noticed post #57 in the SM-J320A rooting thread while I was researching. I had to google FRP as I hadn't seen that term before.

Could you please tell the name of the service/company you used to carrier-unlock it ? (I'm in the same situation) Thanks! @danny8
I used fastgsm.com. I used the "online" method for $15. I also had a choice for a $20 "code entry" method.

For what it's worth, the "online" (or "USB") unlock method I used took a good bit of effort. I had to perform two flashing operations with ODIN in addition to running the cable-connected online unlocker application on my laptop. Took me about an hour.

I had to correspond with the company because the unlocker application would not complete unless extra steps (flashing operations) were taken. Fortunately, the company was very prompt (within minutes) with their communications. Otherwise, I would have been frustrated at the delay.

Yes, I would do it again. I recommend that you budget adequate time for the operation. And of course, be sure you have laptop/desktop, USB data cable, and online access for the duration.

Very interesting to understand how their program works :)

Software update

I got an AT&T software update most likely, and it has seemed to soft brick my phone.

On boot, no matter what mode I go to, I get the "This phone has unauthorized software" bull****.

Please help.

Sounds like you just have to upgrade to a permissive kernel.

Grab the eng_boot from there and put it in the "ap" section of Odin...put your phone into download mode by holding power, - vol and home for 10 seconds or so.
If that fails try the newest full firmware from the same post
Good luck, keep us informed on how it goes

Never saw that on this rom
Follow this... But being rooted you'll only see a black screen until you reflash your eng_boot

Just to let everyone know, I had the same frp issue described and was able to flash the other tar file in the frp link above and use the adb commands to fix the login issue, but I had to do that AFTER I used flashfire to wipe and flash this ROM! When I did it before I wiped, it was undone! *blush*

So,

-wipe and flash ROM with flashfire
-use the Odin file in the frp post, then the adb commands in that post while phone is still connected to PC (as he said, it boots to black screen, but the command worked properly)
-disconnect phone and battery pull then into download mode (where it was listed as frp unlock on the phone, to my relief!)
-use the other permissive tar file (ENG_BOOT_J320A_PG1.tar from the root thread) in Odin on phone again to boot properly!

Worked for me! The first boot was quicker that expected, and didn't give me a Google login page on startup at all, just went to stock lock screen. When I went to playstore, it asked for Google login info, and everything was great!

BTW, this is my first post on here in years, so I wanted to give thanks for everyones work on this phone! I knew it wouldn't be root and ROM priority, since not a flagship phone, so I really appreciate your work! So great to have under the hood phone access again... (My root metaphor, likening a locked phone to a car where you couldn't open the hood).

Today i bring you the very first rom for our device.
It's only stock, but the installer includes enough options to keep us happy for a while.

The core installation includes a stripped down system menu with Google play and contacts. The rest of what you install is your choice.

Aroma options:
Debloat (multiple levels)
Deknox
Install root
Install busybox
Install Init.d
Install Xposed

Bugs:
None
If you find any let me know, but if you do not wipe, please don't even report bugs.

Installation:
Flashfire

I wanted to include the 3/2017 security update and stock cricket apps, but I could not aquire either. If you can help, let me know

Flashlight toggle fix
Thanks to @sjowns for pointing it out

Enjoy
-D

Had a small issue. There was not a "live wallpaper picker" in the rom, even when I used the all bloatware option. I know it's a minor thing for most, but I always use klwp, so it is essential for me! I tried to restore from my titanium backup, but it hangs and won't finish. Then, I tried to manually install by copying apk to system apps, but I could not get system to mount as writable. I tried through a root explorer, through an app from Google play specifically for it, and through terminal emulator on device. I tried to install the rom on flashfire using the "mount storage writable" option.

I'm probably doing something silly wrong, but how should I fix this? Can the app be installed via flashfire perhaps? Or, how to make system writable some other way?

OP updated. Rom updated to July/2017 update (AQG1) for both J320A and J320AZ. Also redid the installer, all unnecessary apps are fully customizable now see attached screen shots.
@ivywen the app is there, not sure why I can't see it tho. Even looked while I was stock and couldn't figure it out... I'll have more time to investigate
@krl0s86 sorry bud need to be rooted and install with flashfire

This ROM for whatever reason refuses to boot. I've tried with all the software options and with non. It just gets stuck on the at&t logo. I'm probably missing something as this is the first phone I haven't had TWRP or CWM for. Man I miss those days.

Having to flash back to stock and sign in with Google every time is a pain.

I certainly thought I had given it about 10 minutes or more each attempt. On the plus(?) side I goofed up during a reset and tripped Knox so now I don't have FRP lock to deal with. I'll set a timer next time.

I quickly looked into borrowing languages from other j320 models, but none are like ours. I'll try again before I update the a/az/ag version I have ready

OP updated, added AG to the rom and reduced the zip size by quite a bit.

This uses the same base files for each rom, AQG1. So even tho the highest firmware for J320AG is only AQB1 you still get the July security update (minus the new sboot)

All devices are interchangable for me, on Cricket. Depending on your carrier maybe they'll all work for you too.

Just trying to make sure I'm crystal clear..

J320a - rooted via eng_boot pluto king root.
Have not yet made the attempt to replace with supersu_me. Rom is totally stock.

Flash via flashify, as we don't have a twrp version, and, theoretically, all should be well?

I have the stock firmware ready, but can I flash that with the eng_boot? I seem to remember that causing a soft brick. Is that the case? Do I have to flash the... Retail(?) boot image first to avoid that?

Yall devs put so much into this, both creating the roms and offering such a great support venue for them. It's very very much appreciated.

Can anyone -- or DamienMc, the creator -- post a review of how this ROM is working out? Brief or long; any type of review would be appreciated.

Any feedback or commentary is welcome. Thank you for your consideration.

I'm not going to review it (someone else can)
But I used it heavily before I started work on something new.
It's as stable as stock... cause it is stock ;) Nothing tweaked just the few add-ons to let you tweak it easier.

    About the bloat.
I did notice I should have left Samsung account (and maybe billing) with the standard install. Because you can't use the theme store without them. But they're in 'bloat'.

You can always install all the debloat options and have 100% deodex stock and edit to your liking.

    could it work on J320H?
    i know it's for 320A/Az but i want to try it:D

    Sorry bud, different chipset

I have AT&T Samsung Galaxy Express Prime GoPhone, J320A. Owned it for one week. It has been carrier-unlocked. I'm now using T-Mobile SIM. Seems to work OK. Only issue I can find is where the SIM status page does not show my phone number.
I would appreciate pointers or maybe a place to look for installation steps. I assume I'll to need to root via Kingroot then replace with SuperSU (if possible). Then install FlashFire.
I have rooted and installed ROMs on other devices (Galaxy Exhibit, 2012 Nexus tablet, Moto G), but seemingly devices are more locked-down these days. I understand that TWRP is not available for this device and likely will not be.

Last year, I bought a couple of inexpensive T-Mobile phones and "rooted" them with KingRoot which is still installed on those phones. (Not really thrilled about that.) I put rooted in quotes because it doesn't quite behave like a fully-rooted phone, IMO. I'm not very expert in these things, but I know how to follow steps and have used ODIN, TWRP, et cetera.

I'm leery of working with these more locked-down phones. Am I being paranoid and/or incorrect about these matters?

BTW, thanks for the ROM! I'm surprised there aren't more replies.

Maybe this phone is not as popular as I think it should be. Maybe it's too low-spec for the tech-savvy crowd. I got mine for just $64 at Walmart online, but they've since raised the price to $79. Seems like a good deal, even at that price.

I paid $15 to carrier-unlock it. I had to flash firmware (modem file?) before unlocking, then flash another file (restored modem?) after unlocking. I was following emailed instructions after the initial unlock procedure failed.

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j3-2016/how-to/root-samsung-sm-j320a-galaxy-express-t3573628
There's a xposed module that does just that, never tried it tho, and of course it's not permanent.
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...pp-sim-changer-change-registered-sim-t2106490

I definitely like the phone and yeah, it's a good price.
Being locked does hurt it tho. No easy recovery and no roms from source. The only thing we might get will be ported. And with no kernel, porting is a pain to track down problems... but i like a challenge ;)
