Ok I'm confused now. is this BOOTLOOP HANG/FREEZE issue now referred to as a "soft brick" problem? Or are they different?

Was running sweet v10.5, started getting mad battery drain and it wouldn't enter deep sleep (suspected My Quitbuddy to be the culprit). Whilse I was trying to find apps to investigate better I noticed v11.1 was out.

Downloaded v11.1, Flashed following instructions. Went to do first boot and it froze on the "Samsung galaxy note gt-n7000b" screen. After 20minutes I gave up and assumed something went wrong.

MD5 check passed. Flashed again, no worries.

Started usual setup of phone and it would randomly reboot. Found Xposed installer and got a big smile from the modules then went to work to push the note to it's limits once again. Mainly changing simple things (button actions, look of phone) stayed away from any kernel settings. But I did install a fair few modules just to suss it out. Can these modules interfere with eachother? I was assuming when I came across the same settings in other modules if I kept them set the same I would be safe (same init.d scripts unless the coder was a numpty).

Spent the next 6 hours going through all my new toys as google play decided it wanted to install every single app I had on sweetrom v10.5 on my phone (which would be great... if I didn't have a battery problem in 10.5).

Passed out after doing a reboot. Phone was at boot screen not the gt-n7000 initial splash screen and was plugged into charger. Woke up to the splash screen. Spent the next 2 hours simply trying to get the phone to boot and/or get into CWM after swapping between 2 batterys numerous times she finally booted up properly. Now to hope like F that my battery drain issue is under reasonable control that the stupid thing will charge while plugged into ac not keep draining but I think that's a "when pigs fly" scenario.

Can you PLEASE recommend a firmware that does not have this boot loop issue? I was thinking of trying hello world's kernal hoping that would sort the issue. I class the note as a legacy device. It's a disappointment that I STILL am yet to find a phone that can handle me.

Do you think changing kernals will help? I am using philz that came with sweet rom v11.1. Please keep in mind I have done the test. My phone is one of the models that CAN get the brickbug, however I passed the tests and it shows 11-12gb available space (did the test a few months ago)

I find it a joke that some of you are being smart arses on the subject. The note uses battery, I have 2 spare in my pocket. The only time I realise my phone has actually turned off is when it does the single vibration in my pocket. No need to be an immature kid, I am trying to figure out a fix.

Anyone who want's to improve the note please help, rest of you shut ya gob before I shut it for ya! Feel free to inbox me personally I am at the point where I have tried numerous firmwares over the last year and am ready to make my own. Just such a shame hardly anyone can be clear with instructions on this site and it's like reading a damn QBasic book from the 90's.

Thanks for the rom Not-i I appreciate the fact that you are still atleast making that effort. This latest rom is running smoother and looks nicer on my note. If you could pm me where you made a start on custom roms that would be great. I have the time and the understanding to give it a go. It's just this site is very daunting with people not sticking to correct terms or even half arsing the written guides.

I sincerely think switching to hello world kernel after a full wipe will resolve your issue. If you contonue to have issues after that PM me

Thanks mate. Downloaded the latest c.o.h. ran out of time but will flash the kernal via recovery later this arvo.

I will then report back here tomorrow and let you know if the splash freeze issue (where i cant even get into recovery only the vol down+home+power works) is still happening.

Im also going to do another fresh install of the rom before switching kernals. Dont know what i messed with in these xposed modules lol.

@A-mak also regarding battery drain be sure you check it before installing any also. Then if it occurs after installing apps use betterbatterystats to find the rogue app causing wake locks.

Regards,

Read how to install this ROM on op. Wipe cash and factory reset is not enough. No wonder you get boot loop! You need wipe cash, davlik, factory reset and then go to mount and storage format system, data, preload. Do this procedure twice and then flash the ROM.

Damn, I think I found my battery drain culprit. I had to replace the micro usb connection 6 months ago (before that I got the dodgy external battery charger with usb plug but now I need to pull that apart as one of the contacts broke).

Looks like it will be a while before the phones back in action as it isn't holding sustainable charge. I've made a dodgy usb direct battery charger in an attempt to charge one of the battery's externally. Appears to have worked now one of the samsung cables is charging the phone. My phone must be on its monthlys :).

After flashing c.o.h hello worlds latest kernal I am yet to experience the initial splash screen freeze. Whenever I attempted to turn the phone on it made it to the boot screen before it died out of juice. I think I've drained all 3 battery's too much that they literally do not have any charge and thus had issues with the trickle charge (that or the micro usb port is dodgy again).

I am letting the phone charge up a bit (via the phone as it appears to be working, in CWM no worries at the moment but its on 0%) then I will do a full wipe+ fresh install. Before even doing the first boot I will flash c.o.h's kernel.

Will see how I go. Perhaps this new kernel has a bug?[

Edit:
looks like my original samsung cable that's fallen apart was giving such a bad charge the batteries needed a good refresh, perhaps the direct 5v connection was enough? Phone is holding stable on 1%

Where would be a good place to post this information to others that have experienced the same "micro-usb" issue? I had just closed tabs to small topics that were way outdated. People had a dodgy micro-usb port, replaced it yet still experienced the issue.

Flashed new firmware, stayed in CWM and flashed c.o.h's kernel then did first reboot. Phone is currently setting up and downloading whatever.

Dont you factory reset after reboot it will be your device bootloop so that you hv to flash rom again once flashed safe kernel.

Factory reset also will format your ID Device of titanium backup.

I want to warn you that if you replace the USB charger port board to only buy from parts4repair.com
The antennae connector is also on it and there is a plethora of counterfeit board where you will lose two thirds of your reception. I tried 4 boards before I realized parts4repair.com is the only legit one.

As for a good info place to put it, you can go to my FAQ sticky thread in Q&A, write a little diddy, and I will link it in the FAQ if you want.

Hi All,

I am ready to move from 10.5 to 11.1, I have save everything with Titanium and also made an Nandroid backup. I would like to keep the custom wallpaper I have actually on my 10.5 version, unfortunately I do no longer have the original one. I tried to figure out in what folder it was saved but did not succeed to find it. Does anybody know where my custom wallpaper may be saved or is there any possibility for me to restore it from Titanium backup after installing the 11.1 version ?

Thanks in advance.

Did you check your md5 with the one on OP?
Sweet rom v11 Md5 - 6BE377905EE92E80CB6257D65A4C8340
your zip on your sd card or the one on your PC if you cannot access to your phone should match.
If you don't know how to check you can see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063320
If matched just try go to recovery again by holding "power+home+volume up" and do all wipes and formats and flash again.

I have stuck on bootscreen too. It happen on v.11. Many time I try to reflash again but after shutdown , my device won't boot anymore. Wipe dalvick n cache doesn't help. I dont know what wrong with that. Looks like some user also have same problem like me.

Well SweetRom itself is running after flash without issues.

Check you zip files as kmokhtar79 posted above. If it does not solve the problem, I'd flash a Stock Rom via Odin and restart the rooting etc.
Maybe you accidently damaged your partitions. Read the Q&A Section. There are guides to recover the Note.

I'm sure it's not a rom related problem. Good luck!

Not sure why some of you seem to be having issues with v11. I have none. It's possible that the included kernel is to blame (but I doubt it) as I didn't test it before including. Maybe try the LT9 kernel that was in v10.

Also for those that are installing philz kernel then flashing rom I have not seen you write the step about rebooting recovery before flashing the rom. I think this is where you are going wrong.

So if coming from another kernel do this;

1. Flash philz kernel
2. Reboot recovery (important)
3. Nandroid backup (make sure preload is selected in Nandroid settings)
4. Do the wipes as mentioned in OP (don't forget preload)
5. Flash rom
6. Wait for reboot (it can take some time)
7. ENJOY :D

I already do that step ... and of course check md5 , looks like the problem is when I force pull the batt out without shutdown the device. Then it will not pass bootscreen.

Fixed my external battery charger.

I previously experienced the splash screen freeze issue (where it got stuck on "samsung galaxy gt n7000b" screen).

This is how i installed v11.1:

1. Download sweet rom v11.1 and c.o.h hello world kernel, then do a md5 hash check on zips.
2. Transfer to external sd card
3. Reboot into recovery via titanium backup (i use pro)
4. Wipe data via "clean install new rom", wipe davlik cache also chose to format system, data and preload multiple times.
5. Installed sweet rom v11.1 (did not restart phone stayed in recovery)
6. Installed c.o.h hello world kernel.
7. Reboot from recovery and let phone do standard setup
8. First boot i enabled xposed framework, updated xblast. Downloaded android tuner free then rebooted phone.
9. In android tuner free i went to cpu monitor and noticed sparadic usage of both cores, set it to "power saver" and its been fine ever since.
10. Removed unwanted apps (system ones included) installed a few wanted apps and continued to mess with phone :).

Ever since switching to c.o.h kernel am yet to experience "splash screen freeze" and at the moment i am forced to pull the battery out and swap. Have done so roughly 8 times.

I also noticed battery improvement when viper4android was disabled. Am yet to investigate. Also enabled the speed hacks in xblast, not sure if this is the cause but gmail and facebook have trouble connecting over 3g/hspda with vodafoneau. Web browsing and online videos load HEAPS faster.

I also noticed that the splanner widget now looks like the original note one different to the one on my first install of the rom (used exact same zip), strange.

Removed svoice, snote, mail and exchange service, dual clock and maybe others. So far have had no issues the firmware runs snappy but still chews through some battery when screen is on.

With my micro usb pcb issue i am using one that i purchased via ebay. At the time i didnt know about the revision issue but have been using it fine for the last 6 months. Reception has always been fine and with this rom better then ever before. Im guessing one of my micro usb cables to be the culprit and could have fried the pcb. Will be opening phone up later to suss it out.

help, please

To change email back to stock black look do the following;

Use Root Explorer or the included ES File Explorer and go to system/csc/others.xml and change this line:

Code:
<CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite>[COLOR="red"]TRUE[/COLOR]</CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite>

To this:

Code:
<CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite>[COLOR="Red"]FALSE[/COLOR]</CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite>

Save and reboot :D

Dear Not-i

I have 2 questions, please:

1/
Im a sorry but i don't have such line in system/csc/others.xml in V11.1 ROM:eek:
What can i do to to come back to black color in SMS?
Jus add <CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite>FALSE</CscFeature_Email_UseFixedBgColorAsWhite> in the file?

2/
I use LT9_StockThemeStatusBar_GreenCircleBattery_not_i to come back to my favorite status bar.
Because it LT9 mod and this ROM LTA4: are there any risks to have done this?

Thanks
RTegards

    • You will probably need to change lockscreen wallpaper after setup as it seems to change during flash, not sure what I did there, ha ha

    • I cooked this ROM for my own personal enjoyment and it works for me. *What works for me may not work for you. I merely put together what I like and use. If you don't like it then please don't flash it or even download it as it costs me personally for file hosting.

      1. Snote is unable to be killed by task manager. To close it down you need to Long Press Home button then swipe it clear from recent applications. This is confirmed to work.
      2. Snote from Note 2 (as included) doesn’t work with finger (Pen only) and pinch to zoom doesn't seem to work either.

    • Media Scanner - If you have Media Scanner drain (common in Jelly Bean) this fix could help

    • This is build is for standard dpi. You are welcome to try 240, 214 etc but I don't support these mods. Meaning I have no time to work on any fixes if you try to change dpi so please don't ask.

    NOTES

    • SNote widgets are already set on home screens on TW launcher. They can be moved around the home screens by long press then move to screen of choice. If you delete them and then try put them up again from widget drawer they will now be wrong size. Sorry this is the best work around I have at the moment.
If you use the installed Xperia Launcher the widgets will be the right size.

Please note Snote may stay open in task manager/ active applications until you reboot. This is a known bug. FIXED BY THIS METHOD HERE

    • If you get SVoice "Can't get to network" error then flash fix above. This will remove S4 Svoice and replace with working one from S3.

    • Gallery takes some time to build cache (for Air View) but next time is fine

    • You may need to open SuperSU and update binaries to gain full root

    • BATTERY LIFE – I would advise at least run a few cycles before you start talking about it. You can using Pimp My Rom (or similar) from the Play Store to try your own tweaks

    • Media Scanner - If you have Media Scanner drain (common in Jelly Bean) this fix could help

    • BOOTLOADER - I haven't included the new Bootloader in this ROM. If you would like to flash it it is available HERE thanks to eybee1970. I have not flashed the new Bootloader myself and have not had any bootloop issues but thats not to say that will be the same for you. I am adopting a wait and see approach to it. What you do is up to you.

    • This is build is for standard dpi. You are welcome to try 240, 214 etc but I don't support these mods. Meaning I have no time to work on any fixes if you try to change dpi so please don't ask.

    • I cooked this ROM for my own personal enjoyment and it works for me. What works for me may not work for you. I merely put together what I like and use. If you don't like it then please don't flash it or even download it as it costs me personally for file hosting.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DEVICE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO FLASH THIS ROM OR ANY OF THE ATTACHED MODS THEN THAT IS ENTIRELY YOUR CHOICE IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG.
