I'm confused...

Ok dudes, i'm confused. I'm sure it's been asked, but this is pretty long thread so i figured i'd go for the quick answer from folks experienced in this ROM... The way i'm reading the instructions, i'm taking it as if I need to go unrooted back to stock MC2 before installing the MK4 version of this ROM... I'm currently on a 4.3 ROM (classic rom 4.3 3.0). Do I still need to go through all of that or can I simply flash this ROM?

Just wanna make sure of what I need to do before I jack something up! Thanks in advance :good:

You dont need to go back to stock but make sure you backup your internal sdcard and format it.

whats the whole deal with formating the sdcard? are you supposed to do that if you go from 4.1.2 to 4.3 and vice versa? i have to be honest...4.3 just not really doing it for me. i dont think there will ever be another rom like whompasaurus. it is abandoned yes...however, it was the most steadiest rom ever. i have had a few random reboots with this room. albeint, not as many as smoothest or classic...

Well couple reasons for the format. First off there is a change in the internal mount point. Also when you do a factory reset it does not wipe anything from your internal sdcard do you end up with old files in the android folder that can cause some major issues.

for the people who used a non modified version of 4.3 the problems come from the rom itself not any of us devs. Others phones that went to 4.3 has gotten pass the initial version and updates to fix problems. We've only seen MK4 and thats it no updates to fix problems on their end so use the 4.3 and enjoy it. maybe a random reboot or something crazy but everything should be ok. AND YES YOU DON'T HAVE TO FORMAT YOUR SD CARD ALL THE TIME BUT, I ACTUALLY LIKE WHEN MY PHONE OPERATE LIKE I JUST BROUGHT IT SO I BACKUP AND FORMAT MINES ALOT. also theres files and folders left behind from apps that just sit and take up space. I had 7gb of nothing on my sdcard once lol. Got rid of it all. :good:. and also start storing your pics on a laptop or another storage device. You'll always have tons of space :good::good:

This is for those who have more knowledge on this topic...

I've NEVER taken the MK4 4.3 OTA. I have however flashed the stock MC2 with flash count reset and I have also flashed the stock and optimized MK4 deodexed roms in this thread. My question is: Are there any issues with going straight to MK4 without ever going back to stock unrooted and taking the official MK4 OTA? I've read different opinions and I have used Jay's stock and optimized MK4 roms exclusively, so i'm asking here. Thanks in advance.

I can say that I went back to mc2 stock unrooted and took the Ota update to 4.3 mk4.... and since then I have not had a single reboot or lockup in 3 weeks.... but that is me and as always results may very. But I have seen others say the same thing.... and by now our warranty is done so who cares about the knox stuff.

Thanks,

I took the ota the day of release using an update zip posted here on xda. Now I have run billards back to stock mc2 multiple times since then. I am currently running stock mc2 baseband/bootloader with custom mk4 rom and dont have any issues. Although my phone was never stable with mc2. I had constant freezes and reboots if I used any custom rom except touchwiz MIUI.

So what I have learned while working with android phones. Not ever phone is the same. So if you are having major issues with mk4 then try doing something different.

Last little bit. Taking mk4 ota gives same results as doing official mk4 via odin.

OK, so I guess there's really no point in me flashing the stock MK4 if I have no issues like some people experience. I thought there might be a change in how the partitions are written or some other significant changes with the stock MK4 rom. According to Jay even the stock unrooted MK4 ROM can have problems.

Jlmancuso I do like how you run the MC2 bootloader with the MK4 ROM. I actually agree with that combo and that's what I do. Zero issues. Thanks for the replies.

Optimized vs Super Optimized

Anyone who has flashed both, better luck with either one? I'm currently on deodexed optimized and it worked flawless for about a week. Now I'm getting the normal twice or more daily battery pulls and reboots, etc. I've tried wiping cache and dalvik and still no luck. I will eventually flash both I'm sure but I'm hoping we get official 4.4.2 sooner than later and it will fix this, it is a joke.

I hate the thought of having to reflash weekly to keep things running smoothly but I need to be on stock since I got the Gear 2 Neo for my birthday recently.

I've had zero issues whatsoever on Jay's stock deodexed rooted mk4 rom in this thread. It's 100% for me, although it is a stock rom with no tweaks. I think the mk4 odexed optimized has some issues but the only issue I've noticed with 4/30 deodexed optimized is the digital clock widget is chopped off on the right side. I noticed this is caused by the launcher somehow. Otherwise I don't see why you'd be having reboots but I'm willing to bet it's not the rom itself. I'm thinking it's gonna be caused by something done beyond the initial install of the rom which you'll need to figure out... such as your bootloader version, modem, kernel, apps, etc.

No problem. I'm thinking my phone hates MK4. I have done the back to MC2 or whatever file and have never taken the OTA for the MK4 so bootloader is MC2. I never run anything but stock kernels and I had a reboot within 15 minutes of install. Phone has good and bad days though. Sometimes I'll run 2-3 days flawless and other days I'll have 2-3 batt pulls. My biggest hate is when I wake up to the splash screen on the charger all night long and my alarm doesn't go off. I'll just keep rebooting when needed until we get our official 4.4.2 update.

Also my firmware/modem is all MK4 just the bootloader is old.

I've been running this rom for a week or two now. Only had two reboots that I can remember. But an odd problem surfaced.

My phone basically won't charge. No matter what charger I'm using... The moment I touch my phone... The charging cannot keep up.

I rebooted the phone before going to sleep to close everything out. Then went to sleep it was at 35% I woke up to it not even at 100%

Any ideas?

I am in no way shape or form responsible if you brick or damage
your device by flashing this and not following instructions

    APt4z85.png

    1. Install CWM recovery thru rom manager or odin it
(search our section for it)(haven't tested with twrp yet)

    2. Download the rom

    3. Place rom on either Internal SDcard or External. If your coming from a 4.3
rom and using CWM recovery it will be in the SDcard/0 folder

    4. Do a full wipe, I'm sure everyones gonna come and tell how they survived a dirty flash,
but please don't do it in this post, You'll give people mixed info. and they could brick
or bootloop then do it all over for nothing

    5. Flash the Rom ( No Need to root Already done!!!)

    6. Boot up and enjoy

    osW9Xz2.png

If you already did wifi fix, you may start up with wifi then
it stop, Just restart and its back no problem

If you are on stock MC2 rooted do this:
    1. Download full rom rooted (either deodex or odex)
    2. Download wifi fix .rar
    3. Go to recovery (doesnt matter both twrp and cwm work)
    4. Make a rom backup just in case
    5. Full wipe (not necessary but recommended, we dont need people bricking notes)
    6. Flash full rom
    7. Flash wifi fix through odin (must unpack rar first and mobile odin does not work with this)
    8. MAKE SURE TO THANK LORJAY589 FOR HIS AWESOME WORK!
