You’re welcome. Question. Would you recommend me to unlock the bootloader on my SM-T290 model? Or maybe wait till the warranty expires in December?
I will reinstall stock firmware on my T295.
And, re-lock bootloader.
Without TWRP, no reason to try any modifications.

I am very surprised Samsung is making it harder and harder to modify it's ROMS.
I thought they were supportive of developers.

As far as your T290, unless you have TWRP installed and rooted, I see no reason to modify it.

The main reason I like modifying Samsung ROMS is to change battery icons, and customize my user experience.
I may start looking for a different manufacturer to buy phones from. I have an iPad Pro 11". I bought this tablet because Samsung doesn't come close to the smoothness and consistent updates that Apple has in this tablet. I am an Apple beta tester, so I get updates before the general release. So far, no problems. And, I do not care about jailbreaking it. I bought for reading on the Internet mostly. I only play 1 game on it.

Well, the SM-T290 can handle ROMs. But only Project Treble enabled GSIs will work on it. So far, I’m trying to figure out how it could be installed through Odin without TWRP. Because Samsung devices doesn’t have a proper bootloader to be able to accept fastboot commands.

Actually, my T295 has a fastboot option. I discovered it by accident. I modified the system.img file (new bootani*.qmg files). But, it would not boot. I got an error msg. When I did the vol up + vol dn + pwr keys, I ended up in a menu that showed a fastboot selection. I tried selecting it, but since my system.img would not boot, I could not get into it. Nor could I get into recovery, etc. So, I selected power down. After tablet was off, I could get into download mode.

Really? Those buttons just boots me back to the system. When you hook your tablet to your computer, when you use the ADB tools from android.com, does fastboot commands work? (example: fastboot devices)

On my T290I tried to flash your twrp.tar without any success.
Odin fails with <ID:0/020> Complete(Write) operation failed and then the device says it requires emergency recovery.

Is the TWRP recovery supposed to work on T290 ?
That may be because my current firmware is T290XXU1ASH1

Have you installed the ROM you built and offered on your T290?

Your original post says "requires unlocked bootloader". How are you able to install?

Some reason Odin finds a reason to fail every single time.
Good afternoon!
I propose to continue the work on creating TWRP :)
I flashed the uploaded Final.tar file, but TWRP does not start ...
Unfortunately all other files are deleted.
I have a T295 model, so please do TWRP specifically for her.
Only firmware recovery.img is needed for firmware, sometimes vbmeta is required...
For the recovery.img firmware, you need to add the file to the stock recovery.img so that the size is the same as the original 65535Kb, this method prompted the user gcrutchr,He used this method when rutting the device :) .
I will attach the stock recovery in the zip archive.
P.S. Do not use the lz4 archive, Samsung uses it only to reduce the size of the firmware.

I ordered the SM-T295 from Amazon yesterday and it should be here in a couple days. Has anyone figured out how to get Twrp running on it yet? Anyone working on it? I assumed if any of the Tab A models would have root and a custom recovery, it would be this one. Guess I shouldhave done a little more reading. I'm wondering if I should send it back and get one that is already supported? or should I just wait it out and hope someone else can figure it out? I wish I knew how to do it myself, I'd be working on it right now. Any news of progress on a custom recovery for the T295?

@secretwolf98 I tried flashing the twrp and rom to my sm-T290 but to no avail. From Odin I get:
Fail! (Auth)
and from my tab I get:
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [boot]Fused 3 > Binary 2
And yes, my bootloader is unlocked. I am willing to test with my device so just send me files/instructions and I will flash em. Thanks

I'm not a developer but unlock and root every device I get my hands on. I bought this tablet to hold me over until I get a 5G device. Now I remember why I don't buy Samsung devices. I was hoping someone would have had TWRP working on here by now so I could do some tinkering. Guess I'll have to use it as is until someone gets the itch to figure it out. Writing code a little beyond my experience but someday I'll get around to learning how to do it myself.

Yeah me neither. I am just an enthusiast. I used to know quite a bit, even wrote my own script back when I was a teen to root an LG that I had; but now I am in college, studying Aerospace and have long since forgotten these things. Especially now that devices have become increasingly more difficult to root and exploit. I always bought Android products because of the ease to do what I wanted with them, now they are just as locked up as Apple. Oh well, guess they don't want people making their products better...
