I'm trying to install your custom rom but get an error in Odin after only few seconds. My SM-T290 which a have downgraded from android 10 to 9, and rooted has an open bootloader. I even tried flashing it first with a complete clean T290XXS3ATF1, but still getting the same error. Any thoughts about what could be causing it?
Fail (Auth) - authorization error. Is the firmware for the T290 exactly? And it is better to ask a question to the author of the firmware in a personal message.
The modified firmware is flashed on the via ODIN! Where did you get it? Is it for the T290 model?
SM-T290-Modifed-Stock-TESTING.tar - Ask a question to the author of this file (firmware)
Don't pay attention to that testing firmware from the first page. The issue is due to incorrect tar file sizes. I just leave it up to have this thread for all of us to discuss on how to root this tab, get TWRP working, help each other, and install ROMs.

I just want Android Pie on my SM-T350, (+ Root) but I can't find any instructions on how to do it... :(
If you can find the stock firmware (on a site like sammobile.com), you can try flashing it with Odin. If it seems to flash successfully, and you still have a usable device, you could try following the instructions for the SM-T290 -- if things go horribly wrong, you will be in a position to try to recover by flashing the stock firmware again.

Look in the Magisk thread for how to figure out whether your device is A/B or A-only, System-as-root.

...Do I flash the Marshmellow ROM then the Pie?
I just need some detailed instructions on this, it's my first time. Sorry if I sound annoying.

I wasn't paying attention.

Whatever is already on your device, I think you should find a copy of that. I think the first thing you do should be to "flash" what's already on your device. I think you will be able to do that without unlocking your bootloader. The idea was to verify that you can restore your device in the event of a problem.

If you can find a "stock" ROM of Android 9 Pie for your device, you should be able to flash it without unlocking your bootloader. It is likely to wipe your data, so you will have to back up anything you care about. (Typically, an unencrypted, FAT formatted SD card is *not* destroyed, but noone can guarantee anything.)

If Samsung released Android 9 Pie for your device, then Samsung is probably willing to help you install it.

Hi. I've been busy and just wanted to give an update. I downgraded my Tablet to Android 9 and I've flashed the "test_twrp_t290" on my sm-t290 (8 inch galaxy tab a 2019) and it gives me the error about vbmeta
(SECURE CHECK FAIL VBMETA) on the tablet screen (in download mode). And it passes in green but when I restart to recovery it loads the standard recovery and not TWRP.

Also the bootloader is already Unlocked correctly.

Here is the TWRP I used.

(SECURE CHECK FAIL VBMETA) - This is only a warning, the vbmeta file is flashed and ODIN says PASS!

It is necessary to remove the AutoReboot bird before the TWRP firmware, since the stock recovery is restored after the reboot. After the PASS display, disconnect the cable and enter the recovery mode, that is, into the flashed TWRP.

ROM Failed to Install for Me

I currently have a GSI Rom installed. I have TWRP on my SM-T290 and I tried flashing this ROM in Download mode with ODIN 3.13 and it didn't work these are my errors. By the way my bootloader is unlocked as well (which Is how I was able to get TWRP and flash the GSI Rom) on the SM-T290 Tablet it self it shows the error (SW REV CHECK FAIL: [boot] Fused 3 > binary 2)

Hey, do you want to change the title of the thread a bit and add working links to T290 and T295 TWRP Flashable ROMs?
I have built both and both are tested by users on here that send me a pm asking for links. I don't have the time to set up a thread and be here all the time, but as I said, I do have tested and working ROMs for both devices.

Nathan

I think "SW REV CHECK FAIL: [boot] Fused 3 > binary 2" indicates that you are trying to flash an "earlier" version: there is some sense of the revision level of what is on the device. It might just be the bootloader that is considered. Once you have "updated" from 2 to 3, you are not allowed to go back. This is in spite of "unlocking" the bootloader -- they still insist on "protecting" you.

What was it that spell-check turned into "bird"?

This is what we say, local slang :)
Bird, bird, jackdaw ... as well as the item selection mark.
If you do not cancel the AutoReboot before TWRP is loaded, then after the reboot the stock recovery will be restored. And this is often due to ignorance of the process ...
