Look at the op, there's a boot.img regarding usb connection. maybe that solves your problem.

thank you for the tip. re-install the whole ROM with boot.img from OP but it didn't help.

0. boot into TRWP and wiped all except the SDCard storage and OTG
1. installed ROM
2. isntalled boot.img
3. install gapps (nano)
4. reboot to system
5. confirmed USB Configuration is MTP in Developer Option

eh? while typing above out and touching the MTP option. confirmed i can access the internal and SDCard storages via PC USB conection now. don't know what triggered it but looks okay now.

hm.. looks like touching the MTP choice will help but not fully functional. sometime you get the parent folders, sometime none and if you are lucky you get all.

will pop out the sdcard and stick into the reader to transfer files from PC for time being.

Hi everyone,

While this is not totally related to this ROM, this is one of the last active thread and I'm planing to flash LOS on my SGP621 (stock 23.5.A.1.291)
I've gathered all I need but, while I've flashed various devices (mainly samsung, nexus), this is my first Sony system and there is something I don't fully understand : TWRP and FOTAKernel

First, getting TWRP. On twrp.me there is only the windy version. Are they compatible?
In doubt, I've planned to go for this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=17990#downloads
Will the non-multirom version here work? (I've seen many posts with problem flashing twrp so I'm looking for the right version on my first try ^^)

Then, flashing...
Half the tutorials I've seen is using : fastboot flash FOTAKernel twrp_file
Which seem to be the way to go when you have a custom ROM, BUT, the other half is using the usual : fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Worse, I've seen posts were users are flashing both (which doesn't make sense to me). I've also read that the FOTAKernel flash is for "older twrp" (which doesn't make sense either).
What is the proper way (and why)?

After that, I guess there is no way to go wrong: I just flash this rom's boot.img (or any custom one) through ADB, load this rom on my SD card and flash it through twrp as with any other device.
Is this correct or are there other sony specific stuff to take into consideration?

Thank you for you help, I'll post a "complete" howto once everything works :)

about the FOTAKernel read the note section of this,
i never had problems when i flashed the twrp in FOTAKernel particion,
instead when i flashed in recovery particion the recovery disappeared.
https://twrp.me/sony/sonyxperiam.html.

You can use the last version of twrp from the link you gave without problem, and how to progress flashing this rom and any other do this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74919327&postcount=677

Both twrp note and the post you linked were in my research. But the xda post you linked states that you flash in both recovery and fotakernel, while the twrp note means that only fotakernel is usefull if you have a compliant rom.
This is precisely the point I don't understand, within the community you find both solution, there should be only one "right"/"recommended" way to do it (even if both works).

Flashed my sgp621, just a little feedback:
- the twrp on AICP thead works, but only the multirom version! non-multirom doesn't report any device therefore the rom refuses to flash
- flashing fotakernel is the only command required, no "flash recovery"

Now waiting for v9 :D

Hi,

Yes, i still have one SGP-611 left and will gladly send it to you.
I just sent the other one to the developer of AICP ROM in Japan (we had extremely busy december, hence the delay).

Just give me your shipping address please.
I am in Bulgaria, I can send it by DHL and you will receive it friday or maybe monday.

Thanks for your work ! :)

Hi, I would gladly take one. Then I would finally be able to test on that device too, before posting new versions. Could you contact me via PM if the device is still available? Thanks!

thank you all, found out why i was not able to flash the ROMs.
i was using wrong TWRP which was included in XZDualRecovery.
also do not use TWRP_scorpion_3.1.1.3_3.4_201711.img version as LineageOS/AICP will compain saying "E3004: This package is for device: scorpion; this device..."
once i use TWRP_multirom_scorpion_3.1.0.0_3.10_201703.img, i can now install either LineageOS(NO/OR)/AICP.
hope this info will also help others as i wasted 3-4 evening playing around.

sharing my notes of how to install the TWRP as long as your device has unlocked bootloader

=================
Install TWRP on UB (Unlocked Bootloader) + Sony MM (Android 6)
ref: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74885912&postcount=170
ref: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-tablet-compact/general/adb-fastboot-drivers-tutorial-t2980529
ref: https://twrp.me/sony/sonyxperiaz3tabetcompact.html
=================
1. Install latest firmware. Android 6.0.1 (23.5.A.1.291) should be the latest firmware. {but i think any version will still work}

2. boot into bootloader
a. Shut down tablet
b. Hold volume up and connect the USB cable at the bottom
c. Should get a blue LED on the front and a blank screen. From command line on PC, run below commands

3. Download "minimal_adb_fastboot_1.4.1_portable.zip"
Info: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790

4. install TWRP
[command]
fastboot devices {This checks that your tablet is connected and responding and you should get a response with your tablet's ID}
fastboot -w {Erase userdata and cache (and format if supported by partition type)}
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash boot boot.img {boot.img can be found in any custom ROM, grab it from any}
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img {download most recent twrp file}
fastboot flash FOTAKernel twrp.img {download most recent twrp file}
fastboot reboot

5. how to access TWRP
1. LED turns "RED"
2. Boot up with SONY and XPERIA logo
3. LED turns OFF
4. LED turns "PINK"
5. Then (Long) press volume "UP", LED turns "ORANGE" and reboot into TWRP

I'm sorry to ask here because I'm pretty lost in this twrp thing. I have stock prerooted 6.0.1. on my sgp611. I wanted to install twrp from AICP thread to have the newest one. It booted up to to this, but i can't boot back to system. If i restore my boot.img it will boot back to system, but then I can't access twrp again. Maybe you or any other can help. If this is too much OT, you can replay as a pm. thanks in advance.

Hi lowtraxx,
do we get another ROM from you for our z3Tc?
I would be happy to know if you support the device further.

Hi, I got a SGP641. Can I follow the procedures for SGP621 to install the LineageOS V8 ROM? If, yes, should I use following build?

"V8 - GDrive - LineageOS14.1 Scorpion (SGP621)"

Has anyone tried it on a SPG641? Still a newb here and and any tips would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I am so sorry for being quiet for this long. Actually, this is my first time back on the forum in the last few weeks :( I was held up, because I moved to a new House over those last few weeks and there were quite a few hiccups along the way including spotty to no internet access. Also I was in Canada for a few weeks in between (actually currently am again till the end of the week) due to work engagements. But now that I am settled in, and stress at work reduces due to 2017 being over, I hope to get the builds running again (need to dust off the build machine) in a timely fashion.

Sorry again guys

It's so nice to see you back, you and koron393 are the only hope for our beloved z3tc.
BTW since you'd probably be working on Oreo now,
I was thinking if you could build dirty unicorns instead of lineage this time. I have used it on my other devices and would love to see it on my tablet.
Moreover, it'd also be a nice change to see something new for our device. Just a suggestion, though.
AND DON'T FORGET THAT WE ALL LOVE & APPRECIATE YOUR WORK.:good::good:

Brightness control is not working (it's always at max no matter what you select) and 5Ghz wifi is not detected either. Are these known issues? Can't see them in the OP.

By the way noticed also that screen is not going totally off when pressing power off button to block it or the device goes auto off...

The 5 ghz issue is solwed changing your region under wifi settings.
I haven´t had the issue with the backlight... So that is a strange one.....

    Disclaimer: Flash at your own risk! Backup your data before flashing! I am not responsible for bricked devices, World War III or your exploding cats!
    Warning: The SGP611 images are not tested, but just built by me, as I do not own the device. But as the two devices are the same except for the 4G Modem, it should work. If not, please let me know.

    About:
    As my beloved SGP621 was just collecting dust, I decided to try porting Android 7.1 AOSP onto it. That worked well, so I moved on to CM 14.1 and now LineageOS
    And voila, with a few tweaks here and there, it works (for the most part). But this is still considered BETA, so be warned and flash at your own risk. This will most likely replace the CM14.1 from the thread here, so the Changelog will also be continued on here.

    What works:
    - Display
    - Sound
    - WiFi
    - 4G Data
    - Bluetooth
    - Camera (Taking Pictures and Video works, but focus does not work)
    - NFC (somewhat flakey)
    - LED
    - Magnetic Cover Sleep/Wake
    - Double-Tap to wake
    - LiveDisplay
    - SELinux enforced
    - FM Radio (only minor glitches remain)
    - AptX and AptXHD BT support

    What doesn't work:
    - Audio Volume has some issues (Loudest in the middle of the slider, than does not change after.)
    - QuickCharge (Implementation to high a risk [Overheating], will leave it out for now.)
    - You tell me

    If your battery depletes rapidly, please disable NFC and check if it betters things. Then comment here, so I can look into it.

    Flashing from CM14.1 (This should no longer be needed, as everyone should be updated by now):
    If you have CM14.1 from the other thread installed, and want to upgrade, you need to take special care and follow the instructions here or you could end up with a bootlooping device. Anyways, as always, before you try to upgrade, make a backup. I repeat, MAKE A BACKUP! LineageOS is now enforcing SELinux, which leads to all kinds of complications, but makes the device more secure in the end and is well worth the extra effort needed. So lets get to it then.
    First you need to have twrp recovery, as cm recovery is, for some reason we have not been able to figure out yet, not capable of installing GApps to the device. After that, flash the update.zip any way you want (via SD or sideload) and DIRECTLY after flash GApps (if you use them. If not you should be good to go). If you forget to flash GApps you will end up in a bootloop. But do not panic, it can be fixed by (you may have guessed) rebooting back into recovery and flashing GApps.

    Flashing:
    If you installed the recovery to the FOTAKernel partition then, while booting, get your device into recovery mode, by hitting VolUp multiple times once the LED flashes purple. Do so until it turns orange. (If you already have another recovery installed, boot into it.)
    Now select install from adb sideload and from your computer issue:
    Code:
    adb sideload lineage-14.1-(DATE)-UNOFFICIAL-Lowtraxx-scorpion(_windy).zip

    gapps:
    Lineage 14.1 was tested with open gapps for Nougat 7.1 arm (nano confirmed working, others could be problematic)

    Tips for better battery life (obsolete):
    I installed Naptime to trigger deep doze as soon as the tablet goes to sleep. I also enabled zzmoove cpu gov and noop scheduler in the kernel options. Because of the high display brightness. This leads to me getting standby battery consumption of around 1.2% per hour (measured with GSam Battery Monitor) which is nearly the same amount I got with stock.

    Changelog (LineageOS):

    December patches are in, build for SGP621 is running. (Crossing fingers and hoping everything works :))
    26
    @lowtraxx did you abandon the ROM? Please give us a short update. A new build with KRACK fix would be really nice [emoji4]

    No, I have not abandoned the ROM. I just got my repaired Tab Z3 back last week. Also I am working hard on porting Oreo to the device. Also (real ;)) work takes precedence and the last weeks of the year are always the worst.
    25
    Status-Update Nougat: I think I found the root cause of the WiFi error that plagued me the last weeks. If so, I will wait for the December Security patches, integrate them and then finally release the new version. Sorry it takes so long, but as stated previously, I have a lot on my plate currently :(

    Status-Update Oreo: It is currently booting into Android, but not much else is working.
    20
    Just an update and FYI for you guys. I am still working on this, and there will be new releases. But my main goal is to get this as stable as possible and in the last few weeks many things in the ROM suddenly broke (due to changes in the blobs, changes Lineage made and other stuff) and I am patching it up here and there. I should get a rock solid build in the next few days (running the RC for it on my SGP621 to put it through its paces). I also added lots of the recommended changes here in the thread and still try fixing the alarm volume issue as well as up the speed performance-wise. So stay tuned ;)
