Yes. And it works much better and quite fluid than Android 7.1. Also camera works partially there :)

Awesome work. Can't wait to install it. Funny story, I emailed the developer of Nova Launcher and asked why the Nova 7 beta wasn't available for Android 7 and they replied back saying they're not supporting anything below Android 8. I then replied with the Matrix "Not Like This" gif. lol

Then, LOS14.1 will be discontinued soon?? How about deep sleep issue on LOS15.1?
Well, if I get the same status as nougat, I guess I'll discontinue it yeah. Not to mention that LineageOS stopped pushing security patches to the cm-14.1 branch. You can also expect LineageOS 16.0 once 15.1 it's enough stable.

Unfortunately, the Deep Sleep issue is present as well in lineage-15.1. The current list of working/not working features is:
  • Sound - OK.
  • Microphone - OK.
  • Internal Storage (sdcardFS) - OK.
  • External Storage - OK.
  • HW decoding - not working.
  • SW decoding - OK.
  • Photos/Video recording - not working (fair better than nougat).
  • Widevine (DRM) - not working.
  • Wi-Fi - OK.
  • BT - not working.
Once I get BT and DRM working I'll upload the first beta of lineage-15.1.

I've come a long way with LineageOS 15.1 and would like some people to give it a try and give me feedback. If you are interested in testing the first alpha of LineageOS 15.1, write to me privately and I'll provide you more details.
As of now, I only have the douglas version, so giza users will need to wait a little bit until I can build their own version (sorry for this, but my PC takes 4 hours to compile Android 8).

Whoa, let's not get ahead of ourselves. On second thought, let's just go straight to LineageOS 18.1 LOL
Android 9 would be a good stopping point. Anything over is excessive and it's gonna be the laggiest experience. Afterall it's a mediatek device that requires a big amount of ZRAM to survive.

For those interested in the Lineage OS 15.1 Beta program I highly encourage you to USE A SECOND DEVICE and contact Roritz2 to sign up. I am not sure if DRM is working but bluetooth, audio, Wi-Fi is working. It's very responsive and perfect for the device. Magisk root will require you to first set up the device, push the boot img of lineage os 15 to the device and installing the magisk app to patch it then install the image through TWRP recovery. Casting to a television isn't working. To be fair it's not working in Android 7 either. Here are screenshots.

Notes: the device shown in the screenshot is the amazon fire hd 8 2017 model 7th generation, the system ui is in demo mode and the launcher is pixel experience. results may vary on the home screen design. a signal bar for LTE is shown in demo mode, this will not be shown outside of system ui demo mode

SLEEP HAS A BUG WHERE YOU CAN'T EXIT STANDBY BY PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON DO NOT SIGN UP ON YOUR MAIN DEVICE. ALSO BLUETOOTH KEEPS CRASHING SO STAY ON ANDROID 7.1.2

I am very pleased with the Alpha version of 15.1.
@Rortiz2, you have done a very good job once again. It is smooth and fast, I am quite pleased. I also installed Open Gapps ARM64 8.1 Pico without issue.
For anyone having a hard time rooting via Magisk, it is very simple.
1) Install Magisk Manager.
2) Extract the boot.img from the ROM and put it on your Kindle (SD Card recommended.)
3) Back to the Magisk manager, click on install, Method is "Select and Patch file" then point to the boot.img. This will create a Patched_Boot.Img. Note the location.
4) Flash via TWRP.
If you want more detailed instructions, see https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-magisk/and follow the Case 1 prompts.

@Rortiz2 I've flashed he latest build but in my case I can see a potential regression with the wifi: it keeps disconnecting after a while.
Perhaps I need to change my 5Ghz network configuration to meet the requirements for the new libwifi-hal-mt66xx?
Reverting to the old version solved the issue.

Really interested on the 15.1 but sadly I have just this tablet now and my son is using it too.
Sorry man.

I see, I haven't experienced any issues with Wi-Fi so far... Is the same thing happening with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi?

@Rortiz2 I did a new test today.
1. On power on (or restart) the wifi is always disconnected (radio icon with question mark), I need to manually select one of my wifi network. After a while it drops the connection on both bands, more frequently with the 5ghz even if the signal is strong.
2. From time to time, also when screen goes off the wifi will drop the connection, even if I set it to stay always on during inactivity but probably is related to the previous point.

Same behavior with both dirty flash and complete wipe and install. I'll keep it installed anyway, since the tablet seems more fluid with this build.

@federico72 and @Rortiz2 I just restarted mine (using both Restart and Power Off then back on) and it automatically connected to my network. 2.4ghz if that matters. I had experienced disconnects initially, then I reconnected to my network as fresh (forget, reconnect) and that seemed to solve it.
Maybe others are having a different experience. Also might be a router issue.
