This is my first experience on using a different OS other than stock. <snip>

1. I was not able to install lineage-17.1-20210301-UNOFFICIAL-i9100_boot_magisk.img. Will my phone be okay?

2. If I were to install it, will the process just be the same?
e.g. installing these 3 altogether:
a. lineage-17.1-20210301-UNOFFICIAL-i9100.zip (INSTALLED)
b. open_gapps-arm-10.0-pico-20210407.zip (INSTALLED)
c. lineage-17.1-20210301-UNOFFICIAL-i9100_magisk_boot.img (NOT INSTALLED)

3. LineageOS and Gapps are installed from flash drive connected to phone via OTG as I do not have a microSD card. Is that okay? Are there any pros/cons with this process?

Quickly - coming from stock/earlier builds - In Odin:
PIT: i9100-LOS-16.0-Emulated-Storage.pit : Select re-partition
PDA: i9100-LOS-16.0-Emulated-Storage-TWRP-3.3.1-1.tar.md5 : Flash & Boot to.

Now you need Google's adb drivers (on Windows) and platform tools :
Drivers: https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb
adb: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools

IMG: TWRP-3.4.0-i9100-Android-10.img :

adb push TWRP-*.img /data/local/tmp && adb shell 'dd if=/data/local/tmp/TWRP-3.4.0-i9100-Android-10.img of=/dev/block/platform/dw_mmc/by-name/RECOVERY'

Reboot to new recovery.
Format all partitions:
Format /data manually - if TWRP > Wipe fails:

 adb shell 'make_ext4fs /dev/block/platform/dw_mmc/by-name/DATAFS' # then optionally format it from the TWRP menu since that may include flags(?)

TWRP > Wipe > Adv. > 'Dalvik - Cache - System - Data - Non Emu. Storage'

No penguins would fall ill if you don't flash magisk. But it will not install normally trough the zip they provide, but will 'update/function normally' if you flash boot_magisk.img and update.

Hi. I am using LOS 15.1 atm, but it is a bit laggy and most importantly, sometimes its screen and buttons dont light up when there is incoming call.

I am looking at 17.1, and by the checkmarks in first post, it looks great. How is 17.1 performance compared to 16.1? Or maybe i should downgrade to something older than 15.1 (or look to alternative ROMs, as someone who is interested mostly in using the phone for calling and some whatsapp messaging?

Go to a good repair shop (preferable Samsung's official) and warn other people about this custom ROM for nobody come a new victim of it.

Of course you can easily, you have to repit to original sizes and flash with odin the original rom.

Did you flashed original rom too? That rom overwrites all areas, also recovery so is the easiest way to have a clean phone.

yes i tried flashing the stock rom via odin wasnt happening so tried the stock pit file too with it but no go

Since Android 10, seems the init.rc is regenerated every time when it boots, so unpack/repack of the .img solution seems not working any more. what i am trying next is via magisk module, still in process but no progress.

Is there any other way to do this? any light would be appreciated.

Using this rom for 4 days and it works well, in my case better than android 11.
I just have a very noob question, how can I root this phone? I installed the zip with the magisk version, I guess, but I don't see a way to confirm it's rooted so far.
