  • IMMEDIATELY the screen goes blank, hold down Home+VolUp+Power.
  • Keep holding down until you see the TWRP home page.
But I don't boot on recovery mode. Whether I press it for a few seconds or two minutes, it stays frozen on the Samsung logo and then the screen goes black and the tablet shuts down.

The only thing I can think of is that the battery doesn't have enough charge. If the battery's at a very low level but not completely drained, the tab can do as you've described above: show the Samsung splash page for a bit, then just shut down instead of booting.

I tried to change the name of the file .img:

heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img --no-reboot

The name of the file doesn't matter.

Arff...

So 80% of battery... I will try again...

If you haven't got it working yet, try this:
  1. If the device has rebooted to system after the last time you flashed TWRP, the stock recovery will have replaced TWRP, so go back to Download mode and flash TWRP again.
  2. Now shut the tab down: connect it to the charger, then hold Volume Down + Power until the device shuts down.
Note: If the device is on the charger when you do this, it's forced to shut down. If the device is not on the charger when you do it, it's forced to restart. In this case, it is easier if you shut the device down, so you have plenty of time to get your fingers onto the boot-to-recovery sequence.
  3. Now reboot to recovery: press and hold the Home and Volume Up buttons before also pressing and holding Power. Note: This makes sure you aren't accidentally pressing Power before the other two. The Power button is what activates any of these sequences, so if it's pressed before the other buttons, the sequence won't be correct.
  4. Keep holding all three buttons until the Samsung splash page comes up, then let go. TWRP should come up after a few seconds.

Then:

But it's the same. My version of TWRP is correct?! What am I doing wrong again? Grr!
Try twrp-3.6.1_9-0-gts28ltexx.img. Based on my experience, newer versions for the T715 are either buggy or not installable at all, so I'm sticking to that one.
BTW: If you require mobile data and telephony calls, I'd suggest to try this rom rather than the T715 one in this thread. The ROMs in this thread have got broken RIL (Radio Interface Layer), thus mobile data or telephony won't work.

Hi there,
I'm facing massive battery drain when not using my SM-T715. About 10% in 3h and the AccuBattery App shows me that the tablet does never enter deep sleep during screen off times.

Does anybody have the same problem and is there any solution?

You might try this ROM alternatively. I'm getting battery lifetimes of up to 5 days - without gapps and SIM card though, light usage. You have to clean flash & format data though when coming from ripees variant.

Hello.

I tried several things to install the LineageOS 18.1 version on my Samsung Tab S2 tablet before coming to you.

1/ Installation for SM-T715 from the computer

I first moved the files lineage-18.1-20211103-UNOFFICIAL-gts28ltexx.zip and open_gapps-x86_64-11.0-pico-20220503.zip to the root of the tablet's storage space.

Then reboot into recovery mode.

I don't have all the options in Wipe (see picture), so I did the two possible ones (data/factory reset then cache partition).

View attachment 5914387

Then, as I can't find "Install Rom and GApps", I tried via adb sideload to install the .zip Lineage.

After finalizing the transfer, I have a reboot that sends me to a first installation of applications (it seems to me that they are the default ones like the app L'équipe etc) and then on the Android configuration.

2/ Installation from an SD card

I tried the operation again by adding the two zipped files on an SD card.

I try to install from Update frome external storage, I select lineage-18.1-20211103-UNOFFICIAL-gts28ltexx.zip

View attachment 5914389

But again, after complete installation, the tablet restarts automatically, talks about installing applications and sends me back to the Android configuration.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

@metterschling

Hello.
I've taken the time to get back into it.
I do the flash with the code $heimdall flash --RECOVERY twrp-3.7.0_9-0-gts28ltexx.img --no-reboot then I do Volume down + Power.
I press Volume up + Home and finally Power to switch to TWRP but the screen stays on the Samsung slash screen for a long time (a few twenty seconds). Then it reboots and, after the splash screen, sends me to Android.
I've tried with twrp-3.6.1_9-0-gts28ltexx.img but same problem. I let go of the buttons after seeing the splash screen...
Any ideas?

I'd say keep pressing the buttons until TWRP appears.
Also, immediately switch the buttons when you recognise that the tablet gets out of bootliader mode.
I remember having to try a couple of times for the right timing.
Note that I used to use ODIN on top of a Windows-to-go USB boot device, so can't tell if everything works with Heimdall as well.

I tried again, waiting for 5, 10, 15, 30s or even several minutes. In the end, it always ends up restarting...

So I'm wondering if it's the flashing that's screwing up (Heimdall), I don't have any Windows handy to try Odin... I'm already having a bit of trouble following the long descriptions in English (I'm French), so it's becoming difficult to make progress despite my limited technical skills.

In any case, thanks to all those who are trying to help me.

my t719 is rooted and in bootloader mode i have a completely different picture (below)
warranty void: 0x01
Well spotted!
@parhit "warranty void: 0" indicates that your tablet is not rooted which is required as a prerequisite for TWRP installation.
Try to follow a rooting guide like at https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-how-to-root-tab-s2-and-more.3205019/

You can download a Windows trial ISO and flash it using the Rufus tool to a bootable USB stick. Search for "Windows to go".
You'll most most likely need Odin/Windows for the cf-autoroot, if anyone known if that could also be done with Heimdall, I'd be happy to get corrected.

heimdall works on ubuntu without problems:

#!/bin/bash
sudo apt install heimdall-flash heimdall-flash-frontend

RR=twrp-3.6.2_9-0-gts28velte.img
heimdall flash --RECOVERY $RR

Well, that is the step to flash TWRP. I wasn't doubting that this works with Heimdall, but what about the initial rooting via cf-autoroot?
Sure, initially I used cf-autoroot with odin (ages ago:))) like in:

Hi there.

@m32 & @metterschling is there a way to use Heimdall instead of Odin? I'm on Parrot Sec (Linux) and don't have a Windows computer around me...

I can follow the instructions using heimdall as here (in French) https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/heimdall#rooter_le_telephone ? :) But for the tutorial for rooting, it's all about Windows https://nerdschalk.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-s2-root-sm-t810-sm-t710-sm-t715/

PS: to make sure I understand, please correct me (without whipping) if I'm wrong:
- root: unlock the tablet
- flash: install a custom ROM

@parhit If the upload will succeed you will have a new recovery, if it is rejected nothing will happen.
copy of the partitions (modem, ... ) - if you flash with heimdall, I don't know if you will be able to do it.
Either way, the decision is yours.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device. All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. If you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

    Code:
    * [B][U]Your warranty is now void.[/U][/B]
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
    * thermonuclear war, or your getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
    * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
    * you point the finger at us for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

(Please read them BEFORE posting anything in the thread!)
Q: Whenever I try flashing any lineage-18.1 build, I get the following error in TWRP: Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
A: This error appears whenever you try to flash an Q-based rom within a version of TWRP older than 3.5. Simply flash the linked below version 3.5 or higher, reboot back into recovery, and flash the rom zip again.

Q: Will any of the variants ever receive official builds from LineageOS?
A: In short, no. The reason is that, in order to get a modern version of Android working properly on an ageing device some legacy commits needed to have been re-introduced into the current source branch. These include a fix for something as fundamental as Wi-Fi.

Q: How often will new builds be released?
A: At least once per month: as soon as possible after each new Android security patch level is merged and whenever a new feature is added or a bug is fixed.

    ROMs
    - SM-T710: gts28wifi

    - SM-T715/Y: gts28ltexx

    - SM-T810: gts210wifi

    - SM-T815/Y: gts210ltexx

    Open GApps

    Magisk

If your currently installed ROM is any version of either: stock Samsung TouchWiz, LineageOS, CyanogenMod, or any other custom ROM, you must perform a clean install of that LineageOS 18.1 variant, which corresponds to the model of your tablet!

Typically if you do not do a Clean Install then you are not allowed to report errors or problems. If you Dirty Install and you do have problems then you will be asked to Wipe All and Clean Install and see if the problems still exist. This is a DAILY changing rom and any bug that you found was not working on the previous day's build may be fixed with todays daily build. On a side note, the code implemented to fix that bug could potentially break something that worked on that previous build. So reporting problems on a day old build that you dirty flashed over whichever build of whichever rom you had flashed previously will not be accepted as a true error.

Problems known to happen after a Dirty Installation
    1. A muddled up mess of a system. You are taking a rom and installing a newer rom with changes over the top of your old rom. Between these two periods of time during which you used your tablet and created data, changed system options, and used apps. This is absolutely increasing the risk of causing problems somewhere in the system/data partitions. Some people have luck with Dirty Flashing. However, it's always hit-and-miss because of what we mentioned above about bug fixes breaking previously working functions. Dirty flashing doesn't only create problems if the source code of the system data and the system settings of the new build are significantly different from those of your previous build. That's not to say that Clean Installing won't ever create problems, but only bugs present on a Cleanly Installed rom are relevant for development purposes.

    * Clean Install: Fully wiping everything and installing the rom onto a fully clean system/data partition of the tablet.

    * Dirty Install: Installing the rom and GApps over top of the older rom to save time and not have to reinstall all the user apps and tweaking system and app settings that usually take a lot of time to set up as you like.

    Bugs
    - The microphone is able to record sound, but the sound is very faint. This is due to Samsung's proprietary drivers, as determined by Skulldron.
    - T710 & T715/Y: Camera viewfinder is misaligned with the dimentions of the display, such that the shutter button is almost off the screen
    - You tell us!

    Changelog
All major features and bug fixes are discussed in detail by the developers in the thread, whenever they are implemented. All builds include the latest upstream Changes for all devices from LineageOS.
