I have a general question: is it recommendable to dirty flash over an older 18.1 image? And if, what happens to my magisk and modules setup?

I'm always dirty flashing over an existing system and until now it only happened once or twice that I've found corrupted data.
Magisk will be overwritten if you flash the boot image too which is part of my ROM. Magisk has to be flashed again after flashing my ROM.

Okay. Thank you for this information. I think i will do a twrp backup to be safe.

This is not Rom related but you know if there is a backup function in magisk (for the existing magisk configuration).

Update:
I tried now to install the new version over the old version 20210118. Unfortunately it's stuck in bootloop. Even my attempt reboot after restoring the backup is not working: bootloop again.
****! What can cause this issue? I don't want my data to be lost... This would be horrible.

Nice. This seems to be a common issue with twrp. It might be related to magisk but that is just my guess. I am so frustrated. I remember now why I used for while an android one device. This sucks!

No offense. It's nothing wrong with your rom build. I just have enough of this try and error and losing data and wasting time stuff.

great! silly newbie question

how to update to this version with an already running 18.1

in TWRP > wipe flash, then install this?

to answer my own question for other newer users, wiping cach/dalvik then flashing this rom should is ok (this is called dirty flash I think). just did it. worked peachy.

Yup, all this ROM stuff is so much wasted effort. New phone, everybody has to make a new rom and deal with proprietary blobs all over again.

I'm just using LineageOS until Pinephone becomes stable enough for daily use for me. hope it's less than another year until I can make the switch!

it usually should work fine If you dirty flash over your image. I don't know where my problems did come from. And since nobody else is experiencing the same i am guessing it is depending on my twrp/magisk/nikgapps setup. I don't know if others are having issues with the autobackup of nikgapps but I guess this could also cause issues.

I am using:

Twrp 3.2.1
Magisk 22
Nikgapps Core

I had a similar problem some time ago. I also was stucked into a bootloop. First i tried to restore system, boot and data. But I did not worked for me . This is how i solved it.

1.) First wipe system, cache, data, dalvik/art cache
2.) Install the latest Lineagos 18.1
3.) Install NikGapps
4.) Install Magisk ( I don't use it)
4.) Backup only boot and data
5.) Reboot system

This worked for me . Maybe it helps you.

You are my personal hero! This really worked!

Could we add this to sticky posts or something?

I made only one step different: i flashed the same rom version like my backup.

I can confirm: it also works with the new rom just like you wrote.

I am just not sure if this would work properly if there are changes in the boot partition of the new rom @Berni-0815 ?

You have to flash the ROM after restoring the previous system. That's a well known issue with legacy devices and Android 11.

There i have to disappoint you. Even flashing the Rom used in my backup (of course after restoring the backup) did end up in bootloop. I am sure this issue is connected to the usage of NikGapps and/or Magisk.

EDIT: a similar issue occurs on an oneplus device in connection with magisk CLICK

Since I don't use Magisk, I neither can agree nor disagree to that. But I'm using NikGApps and I don't have such an issue.
But I always have to flash my ROM after restoring a backup.
That's all I wanted to point to.

In fact, the camera (or rather, the bad software/drivers) are one of my main issues with this phone.

Yes. The rest fits all my expectations I have of a daily driver.

Ah! I understand! Since I've never used this, I can't say if this is working or not.

    Hi all:

Here is a LineageOS 18.1 ROM for Z5 compact (suzuran).

    Download 2021-04-20

This is a 7z archive with the zip'ed ROM and the md5 file in it. Please unpack this archive, copy the included two files somewhere to your device, reboot into TWRP and flash this zip file. Enable zip verification and md5sum checking.

    Kernel sources
    Tree sources

    Features:

    • OS Version: 11 (R)
    • Kernel: Linux 3.10
    • Kernel 3.10.108
    • New: Android security patch level: 5 April 2021 (see attached screenshot)
    • Using Sony blob's from stock version 32.4.A.1.54

    Important informations:
    • You should be familiar with general installation of custom ROMs.
    • Required for installation: TWRP 3.2.1 (pick the version from 2018-02-23!!!)
OR use my self built TWRP-version 3.5.2!
    • This ROM needs a clean install, old /data may cause problems!
    • This ROM is NOT pre-rooted. For rooting you can use Magisk.
    Working:
    • Phone calls
    • SMS
    • WiFi
    • Bluetooth (WIP)
    • Fingerprint
    • GPS
    • Location services
    • Headset
    • LiveDisplay
    • Enforced SELinux support
    • Torch
    • German app AusweisApp2
    • Offline charging
    • Notification LED
    • NikGapps (pick this version: ARM64, 11.0, core [tested]).
    • Camera; both built-in camera (Snap) and 3-rd party camera apps.
Camera2 may be a little bit laggy, please use 3-rd party camera app instead; for example OpenCamera. If you're running into errors, please report.
    • FM-Radio (maybe it needs a few restarts before it's working)
    • SafetyNet test passed successfully
    • Hotspot
    • New: Restart into recovery
These things are NOT working (or badly working):
    • Slow speed on /sdcard partition
    • Encryption
    • Camera focus at low distances.
    • Streaming (mirroring)
    • Payment
Maybe some more things are not working.

Use this ROM at your own risk! It comes without any warranty! I'm not responsible for any damage! If you don't agree with that, don't try to flash this ROM in any way.

    Benefits:

    • Added F-Droid and UnifiedNLP! If you don't want this, simply de-install it.
    • I've set maximum speaker volume to a higher value.
    • I've increased microphone gain.
    • I've changed the microfone gain to avoid echo in phone calls.
    Changelog

    Troubleshooting:

    • If you're running into an error, please search in this thread if this error is already posted, before you post it again!
If not, I need a LOG to see what went wrong. Without a LOG I can't help you!
A LOG can be fetched by connecting the device with an USB cable to your PC and then by typing these commands line by line:
      Code:
      adb root
adb shell logcat -b all -d > logcat
Send my this LOG file via PM.
    • If you stuck in a bootloop you can fetch a LOG with this trick:
      • Press the power button and the volume up button together until the device shuts down.
      • HOLD the power button.
      • Release the volume up button and press the volume down button immediately after releasing the volmue up button.
      • The device should start into TWRP recovery.
      • Tap on "Advanced", then on "Terminal" and enter these commands line by line:
        Code:
        cd sys/fs/pstore
        cp * /sdcard
      • Send me the copied file(s), if any, via PM.

    One last request:

Please, do not ask about problems for which my ROM is not responsible.
From now on I will only react to problems that I can reproduce and that are caused by my ROM.

I'm sorry for that, but I'm developing this ROM in my spare time and I still have a normal life.
