I have successfully updated the tablet from LOS 19 to LOS 20 with Odin. This can be done easily and without data loss (dirty flash).

After recovery update, I need to disable the warning message for the bootloader. This works also with Odin.

Warning before:

Warning after:
warning after.jpg

Recovery flash:

Disable warning:

LOS20 can then be easily installed via the Recovery. Maybe also Gapps or Magisk / Lygisk.

@Linux4, thank you very much for your great work! I love this tablet and your software :)

Since I prefer to use heimdall, I should be able to flash up_param.bin using the command:
Code:
heimdall flash --UP_PARAM up_param.bin
(I hope that's correct).

The question I have is will I have to flash this AFTER every time I update LineageOS?

You said you flash it after the recovery update. Wouldn't the update of Lineage (using recovery) just overwrite it with the version included in the LineageOS zip?

Also, since the "Warning Version" is included in the LineageOS builds, I assume this will need to be updated regularly, right? If not, can I continue to use this same file going forward, or is there someplace that updates can be obtained?

No, you don't have to install them again and again. For me, the error message was turned off before. I used the tablet from the beginning with LOS of Linux4 with OTA. For me, the recovery is updated with every update. Only with the manual update to version 20 did the error message come again. That's why I deactivated them again. You can do OTA, and you'll see that everything stays that way :)

(I hope that's correct).
If you no longer get a warning screen, everything is correct. The screen has no effect and is only an optical fix. :)

It doesn't matter if it's Odin or heimdall, many users find Odin easier.

Have fun...

@R!ffRaff

Which Recovery is in your tarball? Is it standard LOS20-recovery from OFFICIAL build of 2023/05/24?

So, if this LOS recovery is yet installed, there is no need to flash it again? Right?

Thanks a lot,
samhhmobil

Good morning.. 😉
oohhh, just saw that LOS 20 is now official. 😲🧐🤩 Thanks to @Linux4 und @haggertk and other Developers for working on this.

My question: I'm on the latest UNOFFICIAL build (20-20230218-UNOFFICIAL-Linux4-gta4xlwifi). Can I update to the current OFFICIAL build via the recovery without data loss? (dirty flash)

Thank you for your help!

Best regards

Hi @Linux4

after updating my device now several times I like to have a feedback on the official procedure pointed out at LineageOS Wiki.
For me it‘s the LTE version.

This documentation is confusing me any time I use it. Probably I‘m not the only one.
I would highly appreciate to do some changes there.

In the section

Preparing for installation

Point 3. states:

Power off the device, and boot it into download mode:
  • With the device powered off, hold Volume Down + Volume Up and connect USB cable to PC.
  • Now, click the button that the on screen instructions correlate to “Continue”, and insert the USB cable into the device.
Can we change it to:

Power off the device, and boot it into download mode:
  • With the device powered off, hold Volume Down + Volume Up and connect USB cable to PC and device.
  • Now, click the button that the on screen instructions correlate to “Continue”.

I think this reflects much better what needs to be done and it is true for all paragraphs to reach download mode.

Installing a custom recovery using heimdall

it’s the same at point 2

and point 5. & 6. should also be changed from:

Unplug the USB cable from your device.

Manually reboot into recovery, this may require pulling the device’s battery out and putting it back in, or if you have a non-removable battery, press the Volume Down + Power buttons for 8~10 seconds until the screen turns black & release the buttons immediatelywhen it does, then boot to recovery:
  • Reboot and immediately hold Volume Up + Power while the device is connected to a PC via USB cable.

If you just leave the cable as is after flashing the recovery the device will shutdown. Then you can simply press the two buttons and will come into recovery.

Would be great to have this changes done if you agree.

Thanks
Chris

Those who are struggling to update the recovery from LOS 19 to LOS 20.
  1. Flash latest LOS20.
  2. Reboot to recovery.
  3. Flash MindTheGapps 13 arm 64
  4. Reboot to system.
  5. Use the system for 5-10 mins and then reboot to recovery.
  6. You will see the latest recovery being displayed.

If this works, the instructions on the official side are much more confusing. So you are saying we do not need to flash the recovery? @Linux4 can you probably give a feedback on this?

Seems like I was able to do a dirty update without any apparent problems.

It looks like the issue with it reverting to portrait whenever the screen locks, even if the rotation is locked to landscape, is still present, though. Is anybody else experiencing that?

Moderator Announcement: Disrespect, flaming, and personal attacks will not be tolerated. I have cleaned up this thread; the next time I see a flame war here, I'm going to issue infractions.

If someone is being disrespectful, just report them and let the moderators deal with it. Do not engage in personal arguments on XDA.

Lastly, @Linux4 as I expressed via PM, any support provided for your projects posted on XDA, must be provided in the project threads. Restricting support to Telegram channels is prohibited.

Hello! I just wanted to chime in regarding the "controversy" with lewmur and the developer of this ROM.

You can add me to the list of banned people in Telegram for literally saying that "I don't have a problem with OneUI, I just need the tablet to run faster". Linux4 banned me from their Telegram group right after that message.

I'm very sad that the development of custom ROMs has fallen to using Telegram and such apps that give free reign to developers to enforce whatever rules they like. Please, think twice before supporting this developer or any of their other projects (like LeafOS), or at least be VERY careful of what you send if you decide to join their Telegram group. For example, even mentioning TWRP in your first message will get you muted for 30 minutes. God forbid you may already have TWRP installed and would want to ask how to remove it.

What may or may not happen on Telegram has absolutely no bearing here. The owner of the Telegram channel/group can run it as he sees fit, and any issues that may occur there are not in our purview. We would very much prefer people use XDA to share their projects, and we will not let anyone use XDA as a platform to simply advertise their Telegram exclusive content.

If you have an issue with another member on XDA, bring it up to the moderator staff. Stop bickering in these threads.

I know. I didn't expect you or any of the XDA Staff to take any action regarding my post. It was just a heads up for future potential users so they know what they might be getting into should they choose to install this ROM.

BTW, regarding "we will not let anyone use XDA as a platform to simply advertise their Telegram exclusive content.", how does that fit into the fact that the OP has "Support: Telegram"?

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 13, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Installing LineageOS for the first time
    1. Flash lineage recovery
Only the provided lineage recovery will be supported,
using TWRP might result in a possible data loss!!

If using Odin rename the lineage recovery image for your model to recovery.img and add it to a .tar archive using e.g 7zip.
If using Heimdall use: heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img --no-reboot
    2. Boot lineage recovery
IMPORTANT: Do not boot into system again before booting recovery, or system will restore stock recovery!
If using Odin untick auto-reboot before flashing.
After flashing reboot by pressing Volume Down and Power for approximately 7 seconds,
immediately hold Volume Up and Power to boot recovery
IMPORTANT: As of OneUI 3 your device needs to be connected to a PC via USB cable in order to be able to
boot recovery via Volume Up and Power.
    3. Factory reset using Factory reset -> Format data/factory reset
Warning: Unlike TWRP this will also erase internal storage!
    4. Sideload LineageOS by enabling sideload via Apply Update -> Apply from ADB
Then run adb sideload <path to your lineage.zip> on your PC
      Optional:
    5. Sideload GApps and magisk by repeating above step
      with their zip/apk

    @Linux4

Thank you for the good work. You have managed to make it LOS for Galaxy Tab official again.

I have a question. In the description, there is still the A12 firmware (P610XXS2EVJ2) update. Is that correct? The most current firmware (P610XXU2FWA5), however, is from A13.

In the update instructions LOS 19 > LOS 20, I do not see a firmware update. Is that correct?

Firmware is now shipped with the builds like I've done on unofficial for months already.
To prevent you from running into issues you should now never manually update firmware and stick to the one shipped with the build.

thank you so much for making it official, your work is the only reason i bought this tablet!
