It is proximity sensor, and while in AOD it is used to detect if your phone is in the pocket, so it can turn AOD off. On stock, AOD is literally always on, so proximity sensor is not needed, but notice that it blinks within calls to detect when your phone is near your earsIt might be the proximity sensor but the strange thing is that it's not there on stock or I just didn't notice it.
