This is a stupid question but I installed this at launch. How do I update to the latest version and when I update will it delete my data / apps etc?

The last version is linked in the OP, and it does not delete data or applications. This is assuming you are already on a CM or Lineage 14.1 build.

Errrr ...We're not supposed to ask or beg the DEVS for anything Any mods updates they will be implemented when they will have time

Secondly You do realize how OTA works don't you?

Long story short, "over-the-air" (OTA) updates works by opening your phone to the world wide by allowing a REMOTE CODE EXECUTION which is a vulnerability in itself ,quite a serious one i might say so.

So serious that I actually delete the OTA app straight away after i flashed the rom.

Right, how can i put it so you understand?

OTA updates are supposed to make it easier for the delivery and fixing the existing vulnerabilities in the ROM but in order to do so it creates a very paradoxical situation : In order for the OTA to work you need to allow that remote code execution which is a vulnerability.

I've been using this rom since first build before i move to RR and i had no problems at all for daily use. Stable and smooth.

If you want more customizations i'd say go for the RR. If not, and you are happy with the basic features, stay with pure linage

I managed to build a copy from source but on loading the ROM, the SIM card could not be detected. What am I doing wrong? Is there a guide somewhere that someone can point me too? All git projects are pulled from lineageOS except for the vendor/Sony from TheMuppets.

Also, what is the build target to use for building for the emulator? Yuga-eng? And do I have to build the sdcard using mksdcard manually?

It's my first time building a custom ROM of any kind. Any pointers will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Apparently you don't know how it works otherwise you wouldn't make such claims. Lineage actually do sign their packages, surprise…

after install lineageOS 14 from cm14. smooth and much stable. after sometimes got bored and flash back stock 4.4.4/51.1 , it stuck after boot logo xperia. im tried any stock or custom ROM it just wont boot. reflash back to lineage xperia boot to normal. any ideas what happen? why cant install older android ROM?

i install lineage (build 20170131) but when i use mobile data network, device get reboot. without mobile data no have any reboot problem and work great ...
but i need to force use mobile data and after some reboot device go to boot loop and not allow access to recovery then i flashed stock kitkat with flash tool for resolving but ... That was not resolved..
and I think it got worse .... any one know what is happened and can help me to resolve it ?

Now , let's forget for a while the signed packages.. Let's focus on HOW IT ACTUALLY WORKS.

Can you explain to the people step by step in plain English like i did, HOW OTA updates actually work ?

And why it's not actually a good idea since there isnt much documentation reference their public server interface that talks with our ROMs .

Explain them also how easy is to highjack OTA and redirect those POST request to a different server by using simple steps like cm.updater.uri on the build.prop


People have the amazing ability on focusing on small irrelevant things like signed packages.

You may argue that ...whatever...

OTA is not safe from my point of view. Signed packages or not signed ,is way too easy to hijack an OTA..

However, I'm always willing to read and learn new things so please feel free to update my knowledge .

[I want to live in a VR]

After a successful unlock of bootloader and flash to LineageOs 14.1 , i started to install my apps , after everything was done it got a black screen and froze , After restart i only got a sony logo, a pink led , and a black screen left.
Took me 3 days to put everything in place with my apps, contacts i don't want to reinstall system again.
I still have acces to TWRP 3.0. Is there any chance i can repair os without installing everything back?
I am very disappointed , os was working wonderful , no restarts , nothing , and then this.

Edit , i have managed to repair it with just simply flashing lineage without wiping anything , saved me a lot of stress to install everything back

Edit2: Phone keeps crashing , without reason , just restarts itself whenever it wants. Any troubleshoot guide on how to find what is messing with it?
