many thanks for new build!

previous build's problems seem to be completely fixed. thanks a lot! :

but there's one feature disappeared - Notification Access. it's much needed, when using third-party apps like Light Flow to control LEDs. i attached screenshots to visualize the problem.

apart from that problem, firmware seems to be very smooth and works great so far.

It's based on android go. Low memory phones. Like s3 i9300. If you want notifications access you can use low ram enabler zip. Flash in recovery.

Just installed this latest build and I am happy to say that it booted up just fine (while the last few would not, and get stuck at the boot animation).

The phone is currently restoring all apps and settings from my Google account.

Looking forward to seeing how it runs in daily use. Thank you so much for your work @ChronoMonochrome

I take my word back. The problem is still there. The phone is in death sleep.
The same problem with me

Anything specific to reproduce this problem?
I think it was related to battery. It was just that it reset itself to zero so I could not boot it up. I charged my phone and now it is okay.
There's a little to do, I'm afraid. Some fake batteries displaying 30% of charge (whilst the actual charge is about 1-2%), so it may end up discharging completely during the deepsleep.

I don't know how to reproduce the error since all I did was to clean install your latest rom (06.12) and gapps pico but when the phone goes to sleep, it sleeps for real. It is as if it goes through a coma. There is no way to wake the phone up except restarting but it will go to sleep again in one way or another. Also, I don't think my battery is problematic since it was all fine until now, but maybe the issue is related to battery because after restarting my phone, it shows up some of the battery being drained. Nonetheless, I am not sure. Maybe look around the new kernel a bit or buttons because all buttons seem as if they don't function at all?

CPUidle fixes (power consumption in deepsleep should be better than in 3.4 kernel)

Maybe there is something wrong with this code from the build 04.12? Is it possible?

I've been using this ROM all day today.
TWRP 3.3.0-0 i9300. Format data & advanced wipe (clean install).
I didn't expect much, because every Pie I tested was unstable.

I have not encountered any unexpected self reboots or errors. But after few hours of light work, the performance was really bad. Sometimes the phone freezes (black screen). And I only installed a few lightweight apps.

Besides, two minor issues:
- LiveDisplay was not active
- Localization was not working with mobile data active (and wifi off)

And one major:
- WiFi keeps disconnecting all the time (my wifi module: bcm4334). It was frustrating. I've never had such a problem, not even with other Pie's.
That was the reason why I switched back to LOS 14.1, I needed working phone ASAP. Maybe I'll test it again someday.

So far I am not all too pleased yet. Battery drain is immense. I unplugged the phone from the charger last night at 10pm with around 80% charged. This morning, 12 hours later, the phone had shut down due to empty battery.

WiFi disconnects while phone is asleep. Not good, if you wait for e-mails or messages. General response is very sluggish. As if something else running in the background. I am certain that no app is doing anything silly, because it's exactly the same setup I had with the July build, which was working very well, both battery-consumption-wise and performance-wise.

I will keep observing this and report back.

That's sad to hear. I didn't do much tests with Gapps installed, but it seems like this ROM is pretty much unusable whenever any Gapps installed.
I had a better experience, at least it was possible to use Youtube Vanced and browsing the Web without any lags.

There is a bug in the CPUidle driver (as reported by users). Probably the Wifi driver needs some work on it too, as it will never let device to sleep whenever Wifi is enabled (thus causing a lot of battery drain).

I'm probably the 3rd guy saying this but for some reason, after I installed the rom with gapps pico 9.0 and magisk, everything seemed to be ok, just a little sluggish but that's what I was expecting anyway. ISSUE: after 20 or 30 minutes or maybe 1 hour of locking the phone I can't seem to unlock it. The battery in my S3 is genuine and have never had this problem in other 9.0 Roms, if this issue is fixed I will thank you very much!

Phone started behaving erratically with not responding to key inputs or just with a delay of several seconds. I then rebooted and ended up in a bootloop. Even the boot animation was really slow and stuttering. After various reboots it ended up in recovery. Not even dirty flashing the ROM again (with and w/o wiping the cache) could fix it.

Restored my backup of the July build now. :(

Where did the new build go? The link leads to a 404 on Androuid Filehost...

Two recent builds are removed due to bugs that were discovered in the thread.
Unfortunately, during my tests these bugs were unnoticed and since they are making ROM not quite usable in some usage scenarios, I decided it would be better to remove new builds.
Also, we're lacking testers. Anyone who knows how to take logs and wants to help development, feel free to ping me (either here or in PM).

I post this here cuz dm not going through....

You can add me on Telegram @thechosenone46

I know how to take logs on PC or on Android device and it you want you can send me a test build for the Galaxy S3.

I'm still on the new build and one only experienced the random shutdown when charging device or when putting the device aside for a while.

Well.. nice to hear from you and thanks for still developing for S3.

Cheers mate

phone screen is turned off or when it is charging when the phone is frozen or turned off please resolve this problem except that I have shared too many bugs here if you do not bother to take a look at my profile and take a look at the posts

     */

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    Hi all,

This is an unofficial Pie build for the Galaxy S3 (i9300) based on LineageOS 16.0.

Most of the ROM features are working, but the overall state might be not stable or not suitable for a daily use. This is an alpha quality build. Don't install this ROM as your daily driver.

This work is heavily based on works of forkbomb444 (thanks for device tree, kernel and device patches for LOS 14.1), rINanDO (thanks for device tree, kernel and device patches for LOS 16.0) and A$teroid (thanks for cherry-picks I took from his kernel).

    What is working:
    • Boots
    • Audio (playback && recording)
    • Bluetooth
    • Graphics
    • Camera
    • Sensors
    • RIL (SMS, mobile data, calls)
    • Wifi
    • USB
    • Video playback (HW/SW)

    What is not working:

    • GPS
    • SIM PIN unlock doesn't work
    • maybe yet something

    Reporting bugs

When reporting reboots, please produce log below as follows
    (using adb or terminal)
    Code:
    su
    cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt
    and attach in this thread.

    If reporting another issues
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
A rough timestamp of when the issue occurred is also useful.

to quickly & easily capture logcat (Main log), Kernel log (dmesg) & Last Kernel log (last_kmsg which is important in case of unwanted reboot) without using a computer + adb or use a Terminal emulator on the phone:
    1. Root the phone
    2. Developer Options > Store logger data persistently on device > select All. More info about it here on developer.android.com
    3. Install the free SysLog. (screenshot)

      View attachment 4644180
    4. Reboot the phone & reproduce the problem(s).
    5. Open Syslog & select logcat, dmesg & last_kmsg. Add some significant keywords in the bottom including in Notes describing the bug & hit Take log.
    6. The individual logs + a .zip of all of them will be saved in /sdcard/Syslog. You must rename them .txt to be able to attach them to an XDA post like logcat.log > logcat_log.txt for example. Or you can choose Share which will .zip them & then you can attach to a post or upload somewhere & link to in your post if the .zip is too big for XDA's attachment service (20 MB max).
Done! And make the dev happy.
    ***

    Bug Reports & Logs?
If the phone is not rooted you can grant this permission to enable Syslog using ADB (15 seconds ADB Installer) & a computer:
    • adb shell pm grant com.tortel.syslog android.permission.READ_LOGS
You can also install an app like MatLog to analyse the logcat, filter it, search in it, export files etc but Syslog is fast & easy. If not rooted grant permission for MatLog:
    • adb shell pm grant com.pluscubed.matlog android.permission.READ_LOGS
    ***

SIM PIN code unlock feature is disabled to locking issues in build #6. Make sure to unlock the SIM PIN before flashing this build.

    6.12.2019 - build #4

    • Sources update (November 2019 ASB)
    • Fix unlocking SIM PIN (credits to @rINanDO)
    • Fix incall audio

    Known bugs:

If you encounter any weird issues please make sure to make a clean install.

    4.12.2019 - build #3

This build is using a new kernel (LK 3.18.140). The main differences I would like to list are following:
    • more adequate CPUfreq driver (no governors like PegasusQ are included, the default CPU governor is Ondemand).
    • CPUidle fixes (power consumption in deepsleep should be better than in 3.4 kernel)
    • possibly, better memory management (but don't expect too much, this ROM is really heavy for that small amount of RAM)

    Known bugs:
    • GPS
    • Gralloc sometimes runs out of ION memory. This can cause uncorrect work of some WebView or 3D applications.

    9.03.2019 - build #2

    • A long list of fixes that are common with LOS 15.1 (see "Known Issues" below)
    • Updated sources to 9.0.0_r31
    • PowerHAL improvements (credits to @rINanDO for original code)
    • Increase memory heap size for Gapps (credits to @linusdan)
    • Kernel init.d script 94kernel is moved as /vendor/etc/init/tweaks.rc
    • Removed in-built SU

    Known Issues
    • Graphical artifacts *
    • Camera often freezes when starting video record
    • Sometimes (rarely) magnetometer doesn't work
    • Maybe more
There is also a rare bug with PackageInstaller that prevents installer window to be minimized (which is probably related to our buggy graphics libs).
Warning: I have not tested installation with Gapps, but according to S2 thread, Gapps installation can cause some device lagging during the startup.

    5.12.2018 - build #1

    • initial release

    New build is up!

Hi, a lot of time spent since the latest release :)
A lot of stuff have been fixed, but because I feel there are still some hard-to-debug bugs left, I'll leave the status of the build as Alpha (at least until I figure out a full list of bugs).

    9.03.2019 - build #2

    Mr @ChronoMonochrome
Given that the lineageos team has begun merging LOS 16 to LOS 17 ...
Will you be back to this device(S3 i9300) with Android 10?

I have already attempted booting Android 10 preview, but haven't had enough luck to manage it pass the bootanimation.
Another good news: many developers are still working on exynos4 mainline kernel, e.g. ReplicantOS team and even some people from CAF.
So we probably must see some great things will come soon to this device.
