Thank you for your great work!
I have a naive question:
There is a official Lineage 16 Rom for the Samsung S3 neo.
https://download.lineageos.org/s3ve3gxx
I use it with a S3 neo and it works great. Also SIM-card-PIN, GPS and GLONASS works.
I don't know if the difference is so big between the two devices.
Is it not possible to edit the S3neo's ROM for the S3 i9300?

bro there is big difference between them
i9300 has exynos 4412 , i9300i has snapdragon 400 chipset so you cant use same rom on another one

v 20200920 is working with dirty flssh.
The battery consumption is very high. Maybe it will level out. I will continue testing.

20.09.2020 - build #7

First of all, thank you so much for your untiring effort on porting the kernel to the S3, amazing!

I installed the 20th September build and have been running it for a couple of days now, what I found so far:
* performance is good - I do see some lags, especially when waking up or switching apps (I think I haven't seen this with the February build)
* battery usage is OK (I switched to CPU governor zzmove with profile 2 "ybat"), though more than in LOS 14.1
* I haven't seen black screens any more (used to happen every once in a while with the February build, especially when waking up), screen does stay black for a bit (with status bar), then is redrawn
* I did experience some reboots, but not very frequent (still have to look at the logs)
* recording video now works (used to crash for me in the February build)
* camera settings still crashes (well, that's no big issue)
* compass calibration only gets to "medium" - right now the calibration stays at "medium" and the compass slowly turns to the correct heading, but the last couple of days the calibration used to reset to "unreliable" and I usually had offsets ranging from 90 to 180 degrees (the same as with the February build)
* GPS fix now is very fast (first fix usually in a couple of seconds, great!)

But my main problem with this LOS 16.0 build, that the GPS signal is lost after a while and won't come back, is still there. So while it's great for getting a quick location while e.g. hiking, but not usable for driving. After a while (I think it happens when a GLONASS satellite comes into view, sending a date in 2020 vs. GPS satellites where the date is determined as 2000), I see the GPS week rollover problem again in the logs (note the PRN 65 of the last satellite, which indicates GLONASS):

After that, the GPS daemon fails to start again, as the previous request seems to be still active:
Code:
10-03 16:04:39.858 11146 11146 E gpslogd : ASSERT in /tmp/12075037/customers/Asustek/Tabletandroid/../../../proprietary/deliverables/android/gps_interface/../gpsd/common/GpsInterfaceStateRunningRequest.cpp:39: ASSERT(0)
This restart attempt happens every 5 s, until I exit or hide the user application (e.g. GPS Test), then the request seems to be canceled and when I open the user application again, the GPS signals are shown and the fix is successful again.

I think there might have been a change in the Android Location Services framework somewhere, as in LOS 14.1, the first assert message is also shown, terminating the GPS daemon (glgps), but after that, I gets restarted successfully (i.e. the request from the location services has been canceled), and works again without exiting the user application. I even have the feeling the GPS daemon removes the problematic satellites somehow, as in the beginning on LOS 14.1, this happens every couple of minutes, but after a while, the GPS is stable without interruptions.

Note: in order to enable logging for glgps, move /vendor/etc/gps.xml to /etc, add a line
Code:
Log="LOGCAT"
in the <hal> section and change the log level in the <gll> section to
Code:
LogPriMask="LOG_DEBUG"
.

Hi all,

I just want to share some findings I have with this ROM:

I see a lot of these errors in the logcat - anyone knows why this module is missing?
Code:
10-06 19:13:42.205 2238 2751 E memtrack: Couldn't load memtrack module
10-06 19:13:42.205 2238 2751 W android.os.Debug: failed to get memory consumption info: -1

10-06 19:15:11.350 2238 2264 W android.os.Debug: failed to get memory consumption info: -1

Also there seems to be a problem with parsing the settings involving the automatic power save feature.
By default this is disabled, and I can go Settings --> Battery --> Battery saver and perfomance --> Automatic power saver, and enable it with 5%, 15%, or 25%, but then the settings force close, and after this, I cannot enter the "Battery saver and performance" settings menu again. It will just force close every time with some "java.util.FormatFlagsConversionMismatchException" - see logcat below:

I can get access to the settings back, by manually setting the low_power_trigger_level to 0 via adb shell:

Code:
m0:/ # settings put global low_power_trigger_level 0

I did select the correct gapps. Still, this ROM won't boot.

However, I managed to install LOS 17.1 today. Worked immediately as expected. So I guess TWRP is not the problem.

I just clean flashed build 7 together with the latest nano opengapps. Could be that flashing didn't work for you because of a buggy opengapps version, you could try again with the newest version.

First of all thank you for keeping this device still alive.
I have one S3 my daughter using it, have no sim card, just for a installing stupid games. Than I decide it to use for online lessons. Tried to clean install but can't finish because of error 7.
I installed succesfully before thats why I didn't change or erase any script from rom but tried to update twrp version. Because I tought that reason of install error7 is a twrp version.
After I update to latest twrp vers install progress even doesn't start.
My question is which twrp version do I need for install ?

Rom cant read sd card.
I mounted sd card from recovery.
But while rebooting system, recovery unmounts sd card and then reboots.
How does rom read sd card?

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    Hi all,

This is an unofficial Pie build for the Galaxy S3 (i9300) based on LineageOS 16.0.

Most of the ROM features are working, but the overall state might be not stable or not suitable for a daily use. This is an alpha quality build. Don't install this ROM as your daily driver.

This work is heavily based on works of forkbomb444 (thanks for device tree, kernel and device patches for LOS 14.1), rINanDO (thanks for device tree, kernel and device patches for LOS 16.0) and A$teroid (thanks for cherry-picks I took from his kernel).

    What is working:
    • Boots
    • Audio (playback && recording)
    • Bluetooth
    • Graphics
    • Camera
    • Sensors
    • RIL (SMS, mobile data, calls)
    • Wifi
    • USB
    • Video playback (HW/SW)

    What is not working:

    • GPS
    • SIM PIN unlock doesn't work
    • maybe yet something

    Reporting bugs

When reporting reboots, please produce log below as follows
    (using adb or terminal)
    Code:
    su
    cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt
    and attach in this thread.

    If reporting another issues
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
A rough timestamp of when the issue occurred is also useful.

to quickly & easily capture logcat (Main log), Kernel log (dmesg) & Last Kernel log (last_kmsg which is important in case of unwanted reboot) without using a computer + adb or use a Terminal emulator on the phone:
    1. Root the phone
    2. Developer Options > Store logger data persistently on device > select All. More info about it here on developer.android.com
    3. Install the free SysLog. (screenshot)

      View attachment 4644180
    4. Reboot the phone & reproduce the problem(s).
    5. Open Syslog & select logcat, dmesg & last_kmsg. Add some significant keywords in the bottom including in Notes describing the bug & hit Take log.
    6. The individual logs + a .zip of all of them will be saved in /sdcard/Syslog. You must rename them .txt to be able to attach them to an XDA post like logcat.log > logcat_log.txt for example. Or you can choose Share which will .zip them & then you can attach to a post or upload somewhere & link to in your post if the .zip is too big for XDA's attachment service (20 MB max).
Done! And make the dev happy.
    ***

    Bug Reports & Logs?
If the phone is not rooted you can grant this permission to enable Syslog using ADB (15 seconds ADB Installer) & a computer:
    • adb shell pm grant com.tortel.syslog android.permission.READ_LOGS
You can also install an app like MatLog to analyse the logcat, filter it, search in it, export files etc but Syslog is fast & easy. If not rooted grant permission for MatLog:
    • adb shell pm grant com.pluscubed.matlog android.permission.READ_LOGS
    ***

SIM PIN code unlock feature is disabled to locking issues in build #6. Make sure to unlock the SIM PIN before flashing this build.

    6.12.2019 - build #4

    • Sources update (November 2019 ASB)
    • Fix unlocking SIM PIN (credits to @rINanDO)
    • Fix incall audio

    Known bugs:
    • GPS

If you encounter any weird issues please make sure to make a clean install.

    4.12.2019 - build #3

This build is using a new kernel (LK 3.18.140). The main differences I would like to list are following:
    • more adequate CPUfreq driver (no governors like PegasusQ are included, the default CPU governor is Ondemand).
    • CPUidle fixes (power consumption in deepsleep should be better than in 3.4 kernel)
    • possibly, better memory management (but don't expect too much, this ROM is really heavy for that small amount of RAM)

    Known bugs:
    • GPS
    • Gralloc sometimes runs out of ION memory. This can cause uncorrect work of some WebView or 3D applications.

    9.03.2019 - build #2

    • A long list of fixes that are common with LOS 15.1 (see "Known Issues" below)
    • Updated sources to 9.0.0_r31
    • PowerHAL improvements (credits to @rINanDO for original code)
    • Increase memory heap size for Gapps (credits to @linusdan)
    • Kernel init.d script 94kernel is moved as /vendor/etc/init/tweaks.rc
    • Removed in-built SU

    Known Issues
    • Graphical artifacts *
    • Camera often freezes when starting video record
    • Sometimes (rarely) magnetometer doesn't work
    • Maybe more
There is also a rare bug with PackageInstaller that prevents installer window to be minimized (which is probably related to our buggy graphics libs).
Warning: I have not tested installation with Gapps, but according to S2 thread, Gapps installation can cause some device lagging during the startup.

    5.12.2018 - build #1

    • initial release
    27
    New build is up!

Hi, a lot of time spent since the latest release :)
A lot of stuff have been fixed, but because I feel there are still some hard-to-debug bugs left, I'll leave the status of the build as Alpha (at least until I figure out a full list of bugs).

    9.03.2019 - build #2

    • A long list of fixes that are common with LOS 15.1 (see "Known Issues" below)

Given that the lineageos team has begun merging LOS 16 to LOS 17 ...
Will you be back to this device(S3 i9300) with Android 10?

I have already attempted booting Android 10 preview, but haven't had enough luck to manage it pass the bootanimation.
Another good news: many developers are still working on exynos4 mainline kernel, e.g. ReplicantOS team and even some people from CAF.
So we probably must see some great things will come soon to this device.
