AOKP-ANDROID OPEN KANG PROJECT

What is AOKP?

AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices. The name is a play on the word kang and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.

We fork the source code of Android that Google puts out in the open with every major version release, and we then add the magical unicorn bytes (read: we add some of the coolest features that are both useful and make your ROM awesome).

With AOKP, you can generally do a lot more with your device than what you could do with the original firmware that came installed on it.

Why AOKP ?

We were waiting for when you'd ask this.

There are a variety of reasons why a hilly billy Android user, on a bright sunny day, would suddenly start using AOKP and loving it.

For one, AOKP is lightweight. Most OEMs provide a heavy UI layer over Android and have loads of bloatware (i.e. apps that not everyone use every day, but you cannot remove because they're "baked in" by default). Since AOKP is built upon vanilla Android source, it has neither of the above.

Also AOKP has features that you will not find on your stock firmware. You can have a multitude of toggles to quickly flip a lot of your phone's settings right at your fingertips, or you can launch apps quickly from any screen using our Ribbons.

You can change almost each and every aspect of the OS, from its looks to the way it functions, with total freedom. And did we tell you, AOKP helps you make tacos?

I was already running AOKP from Adam Ovadia. 2/29 build. Have you taken over for this device? Woohoo!

Before I screwed it up trying to get SuperSU working (sorry, habit) it was very smooth and snappy.
Now I get to give this one a go. Woohoo once again.

No, Adam o I think is still trying to become the official maintainer. Which is fine. I'll still build an unofficial version mixed with my special spices. ?

I've had a couple weird issues. Pulled my phone out of my pocket and it had rebooted. Also while driving I was using GPS and talking on my Bluetooth car and the phone just froze while locked and killed the call I had to pull the battery and start it back up. Idk how to do a logcat or whatever it's called to show you what exactly happened. Running pretty fine so far tho

GPU continues to reset to 700 using kernel auditor. wheatly governor caused a lock up. xposed installed without any problems, and gapps too. using alucard governor and hotplug now, running smooth. staying cool. really dig this build. going to see if I can get setting to stick with synapse.

I forgot to mention something. The option for double pressing power button to activate camera, the toggle doesn't seem to work. It won't toggle off.
Anyone else seeing that?

EDIT: It does indeed toggle but not visibly. Meaning I have to leave the page with the setting and go back to see that it changed.

Just want to mention, been running this ROM for a few days. Been running smooth. Battery has been great. Got a few system ui force closes. I think it was from the phone being in landscape or an orientation change.

Finally. I haven't been on AOKP since the GNexus days. A few things though, ROM settings force closes every once in a while and the stock AOSP camera causes a gallery force close but doesn't really affect me since I use Open Camera. But so far so good. I'm running Nebula Kernel 12.4 and I have Core 0 and Core 2 OC'd at 2.8GHz and Core 1 and 3 steady on 2.4Ghz and all 4 are running zzmove governor. Undervolting is steady at -15mV. GPU overclock/underclock is stable at 28mhz-700mhz. Had the hotplugs set at 75C throttle and 95C core shut down. No reboots as of yet. Possibly the most stable ROM/kernel combo I've had in a long time.

Noticed an update so I installed it..works fine..I tried to dirty flash but get running the "farting" app whatever of whatever, then would go back to the boot screen. Ended up having to format then flash.

Format?! Wat?! Did you try just factory wipe then advance wiping system, data and the cache partition first?!

Yeah that's what I mean. I had to factory reset. I tried what I normally do first and that is just wiping caches. Dirty flash just bootlooped.

The latest build was unannounced so just wondering, has the kernel changed like in RR & Bliss?
Can't boot into it yet (secondary). Not sure if it's something I did, like flashing SuperSU. No indication during flashing of ROM that it was included so I went for it.
Will try again without doing that.
