LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

Instructions :
  • Download the latest build, unofficial TWRP (3.3.0 and newer), GApps (if you need them), and Magisk.
  • Flash the downloaded TWRP via fastboot
  • Boot to recovery
  • Flash the latest build and Magisk. Magisk version should be 19.3 or below only!
  • Flash GApps and any other necessary add-ons

Known issues:
  • Second camera
  • You tell me

Downloads :
  • Unofficial builds: GitHub
  • Magisk: XDA
  • Recovery: Unofficial TWRP
  • Google Apps: OpenGApps (nano package is advisable, but you definitely should avoid using stock/super packages)

Reporting Bugs
  • DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
  • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
  • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
  • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues. Any bug not reported in the bug report format below may be ignored.

OK I tried to install it:

1. Reboot into TWRP Recovery by LR-team 3.3.1
2. Install ROM, without first wiping anything

ROM install failed with error code 7 - could not unmount system. Vendor flashed successfully.
Any subsequent attempts to either mount or unmount system ended in an error. I couldn't restore from backup, even TWRP backup would not restore the system image, again giving error 7.

so then I tried to use Mi Flash to reflash 10.4.4 Global, and then reinstalled recovery, and then retried.

I first did a factory reset and then retried to install the .zip, but that failed with error 7 again. So I had to restore with Mi Flash again.

Essentially the .zip installation does not work. I tried rebooting nevertheless but I got stuck in the Mi menu, just after the "unlocked" message. The ROM does not boot.

Any tips for how you got this ROM to install/boot?

Hmm still not booting for me. Throws me into a boot loop. Wiped and formatted everything, flashed your lineage image followed by DM-Verity disabler. Lineage flashes fine, but the Verity disabler complains at the very end about not being able to mount /nvdata.

So i had the same no OS issue, turns out it was the recovery, i just used a different recovery and it works fine.
The only problem is if you switch recovery you get the nvstab error but the OS works, i flashed LOS then Magisk 19.3 and it boots fine.
I had a different issue, data doesn't work but only for a specific ISP, for some reason it gets a different set of APNs and can't connect to LTE, it connects to 3g instead but data doesn't work, calls and message do oddly enough.
It's weird because i don't have this issue with other SIM if anyone could help me i'd be grateful.

Thanks to both of you, I got it to work. So far no bugs, but I'll post them here in case I find any.

To anyone struggling with the installation:
- install stock android 9 miui
- install recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-0602-REDMI6-CN-wzsx150.img via fastboot
- go into recovery and wipe everything except for vendor (i think - i don't really remember everything i selected)
- install Lineage OS image
- install Magisk 19.3 and then GApps (or the other way around, don't remember)
- reboot into system and you're done
