Tried to update my CM11 (cm-11-20140715-NIGHTLY-liberty.zip) to the recent update offered - cm-11.0.0-RC9-liberty.zip and it's failed (both manually and automatically). The reason - failed verification. When I toggle verification to off, result is similar - Installation aborted (Status 0)...

I'm not sure what's up with RC9 - I haven't been able to test it or anything else.
Probably best to just stick to nightlies for now, unless they do the same thing

@WinSuk

Today I've tried to update to the latest nightly build available. Update failed. Reason - verification signature failed. Here is the log:
Code:
-- Installing: /sdcard/cmupdater/cm-11-20140830-NIGHTLY-liberty.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Then I toggled signature verification and it did not help too:
Code:
Signature Check: Disabled

-- Installing: /sdcard/cmupdater/cm-11-20140830-NIGHTLY-liberty.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /sdcard/cmupdater/cm-11-20140830-NIGHTLY-liberty.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted
How to update it now?

As said before, any builds newer than a certain date require a new recovery...
I haven't gotten around to updating the OP with a recovery, mostly because it still has some bugs and changes I don't like.
I'll probably end up rebuilding the older recovery with the required kernel change, but until then here's a link to a recovery that should be able to install it: http://jenkins.androidarmv6.org/job/cm-recovery/20/artifact/archive/recovery.img
It may or may not be able to install any packages other than CM11 - I don't remember what state it was in when that was built.

Thank you for the link, but that warning worries me a lot. Now I'm afraid of installing it...

I'm jumping form one ROM (and backups) to another and count on recovery very much. Two main functions of Recovery should be very reliable -- (a) installing any other ROMs and (b) saving/restoring backups. Small bugs inside it are understandable and not important that much...

Please update the recovery form v6.0.2.8 to a new one. It's pity that we have a long time since we see new nightly builds, but can't install / check them...

@WinSuk,

Do you have an updated recovery image that is capable to install latest builds for Aria as well as other (older) ROMs?

Today I've tried to update Aria with the latest "cm-11-20141018-NIGHTLY-liberty.zip" and of course it failed with the old reason (verification failure).

Working on a version of CWM 6.0.2.8 with it now... but it's going to take a while to sync all the source

It's good to hear that. Please take your time and let us know when it's done. Is it going to be perhaps v6.0.2.9 (to distinguish it form the current version)?

Recovery is done, but I'm having lots of problems with gapps... (well just one problem that won't go away) Not sure how long that will take.
I'm just slapping a "ver2" in the file name, since it's still the same cwm 6.0.2.8 under it :p
But that might make it harder to distinguish after it's on the phone, so I might change it

Alright, I've updated everything :)

New recovery with CM11 support, smaller images, and offmode charging derpyness fixed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474662

New gapps with SetupWizard removed (caused problems), Play Store updated, and Play services updated:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756379

Both of which will need to be redownloaded.

And for anyone that doesn't already have it, I've added 3 mirrors for CM11 RC11:
cm-11.0.0-RC11-liberty.zip
d94c7e2163ce434241bfc0ee02c84eb1
androidarmv6: http://download.androidarmv6.org/_builds/liberty/stable/cm-11.0.0-RC11-liberty.zip
Google Drive: http://goo.gl/D635Gc
xda devdb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devd...ct/dl/?id=9311
MediaFire: https://www.mediafire.com/?kf3it5ckd46mf3o

I don't remember everything that has been changed since I last posted a build, but I know USB tethering is mostly fixed now - enable it, unplug & replug, then enable it again and it should work

@WinSuk,

Thanks a lot for good work! Yesterday I've installed new Recover v6.0.2.8.2 (here I added .2 at the end to distinguish if form previous version, why you can't do the same?) and it works well. I've noticed new background (instead of black one now it has grayed textile), smaller (and nicer) android image and more importantly - response to trackball actions now is improved (earlier I had to press on trackball several times to do something and now it works as it should be).

Update to latest build 20141025 went not without some quirks though. E.g. recovery displayed that verification failed again... But when I choose to install OS package manually anyway, it proceeded. After update CM11 (from 20140715) I noticed:
1. Launch pad was reset (from 3 pages to 2) and many apps are missing.
2. I use to save internal storage memory with Link2SD. And when I launched it after new OS update (lucky it was there), it did not recognize ext partition and offered initial setup dialog to set file system to use (I use ext2, BTW).
3. After many reboots (and each reboot takes about 8 min now :() I finally found my old installed apps...
4. Many times at reboot Android takes time to perform its "update" action: "Android is upgrading... Optimizing app XX of 17"...

Finally I've reached the point when everything (well almost) was restored as it was in 20140715 build. :) But the very annoying problem remains (I've posted about it earlier) - after reboot Android may not show some of apps as installed. Nest time it could be a different subset of actually installed apps (I've checked - apps are actually in /data/apps folder). But it still very annoying to see that some apps are missing and you have to reboot it again (and then may see the others are missing instead)... :(

At this time I don't use GApps at all. But I'll try to install them later on (e.g. "My Tracks" requires them to run) and let you know how it goes.

Here is a new and completely unexpected challenge. I Installed cm-11-20141025-NIGHTLY-liberty.zip from the scratch. And of course, the first thing to do is to install an app. In order to do so I run its File Manager, tap on .apk file and got the response - "There is no app registered to handle the type of file selected" ... And there seems to be no way to set that file association. Full stop now :(

CyanogenMod 11 (based on Android 4.4.4 "KitKat") for the HTC Liberty/Aria/Gratia/etc

NOTE: Just to make this clear, this is UNOFFICIAL, and NOT supported by CyanogenMod.

Hboot 1.02 or higher is required! (Revolutionary or HTCdev unlock)

Liberty is now an official device on the androidarmv6 project :D
This means updates will show up in Settings > About phone > CyanogenMod updates
However updating via the updater may not always work, due to very constrained system space.
Patches can be submitted to http://review.androidarmv6.org/

Huge thanks to everyone working on marvel/Wildfire S (Olivier, izi501, feroxx, Kevinjoa, thehacka1, benjamingwynn, JDevs, more I don't know?) & the androidarmv6 team :)

The kernel includes TONS of CPU governers, and a couple extra I/O schedulers.
I don't really care for kernels with this many CPU governers, but the rest of the changes to the kernel are useful, and it's more work taking them back out so I left them in :p
No idea what may or may not be better, but the default seems to work fine.

    Screenshots: http://winsuk.net/screens/liberty/cm11/

    Required recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474662

    Known bugs/etc:
    • Slow - everywhere (I recommend CM9 or CM10)
    • Apps sometimes don't load on boot (appear to be completely gone) - even system apps
    • WiFi hotspot doesn't work
    • Screen brightness sometimes sticks at dim when turning on
    • Transparent GIFs in browser have a solid background
    • Large images in browser are usually broken
    • No adb screenrecord
    • No ART

    Notes:
    • USB tethering: enable it, unplug & replug, then enable it again and it should work
    • For a transparent status bar, enable high-end graphics in Performance settings
    • USB debugging verify (the popup when you plug into a new PC) doesn't always work, so it has been disabled
    • Gesture typing, Photosphere, and voice recognition: all require closed-source libraries from Google built for ARMv6, which don't exist.
I can't make any of these work unless Google does.

    Google Apps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756379

Google Search cannot be installed from the Play Store, however if you can get an apk for it (like here maybe), it will work (sans voice) with one setting change:
    1. install Google Search app (from apk)
    2. open it, and hit Yes, I'm in
    3. let it crash
    4. open Google Settings from the app drawer
    5. navigate to Search & Now > Voice > "Ok Google" hotword detection
    6. slide hotword detection to off
    7. done, it works :)

There is also an app to sort-of enable voice search in Google Search/Now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709285

    • CM Updater added (should be getting weekly builds from jenkins through it soon)
    • Miscellaneous changes from CM and/or androidarmv6

    20140607 (June 7th, 2014):
    • Android 4.4.3
    • Disabled fading edges on text for a small speedup - before, after
    • Switched to gps.conf with SUPL (assisted GPS) support - I can't tell a difference, but it may speed up GPS for some
    • Terminal Emulator updated
    • Upstream CM things (I don't keep track :p)

    20140519 (May 19th, 2014):
    • Re-added missing fonts for various languages (they got removed during the KK bringup)
    • Removed what livewallpapers were left - this will not only free up some space on /system, but also /data because they had to be cached there
    • Removed CM Wallpapers to free up /system space (as with the live wallpapers, should free up a little on /data as well)
    • Removed 05mountsd script - most sd-ext solutions seem to have mounting built in now, and it conflicts with some
    • SELinux enabled in kernel - this may improve battery life as audit was constantly crashing without SELinux
    • Changes from CM (including new theme engine, oooh!)

    20140507 (May 7th, 2014):
    • Got camera working (all of it including timelapse :) no glitches either)
