[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][gts4lvwifi][9] LineageOS 16.0

Anything keeping this from going official, it seems to be fully working?

Would also love to know an answer, or theory, to this.

Edit: more or less answered through some reading of the lineage page.
To go official, devs must commit to keeping the device supported (among other requirements) which is probably not something too many folks with the skills can or want to do. It takes a village I'd imagine for great support and that's why lineage is picky about official support.

That said, this port is really solid; I'd love to contribute to the "unofficial" cause. If you need or want help updating this @LuK1337 please let me/us know.

I would also support/contribute to the cause as well. LuK1337 please let me know what you need to keep this moving. I'll be there. Your attention to detail helped me and its the least I can do...

Does it make a difference which version of stock you're coming from? Is it better to update stock as much as possible before flashing LOS?

My first device i had for 2 weeks and had all the latest updates before trying LOS. I screwed something up and could not get TWRP loaded and ended up sending that device back as faulty. The next device I literally did out the box so it had no time to update the stock rom. Not sure whether or not that helped but I am running LOS with no issues now.

Hello everybody. I know that the dev doesn't support EdXposed and similar mods, but maybe somebody tried to install this framework? If so, with what results? I'd be grateful for some insight :)

As soon as you unlock the bootloader you will lose Widevine L1 certification. My tablet on this ROM comes up as L3 on DRM info if that helps. I don't use either of those services. (I believe L3 will limit you to SD though)

I never unlocked the bootloader.
The tablet does not play Netflix or Amazon prime in HD.

I wiped, flashed rom, flashed gaps. it never boots. I see the lineage boot image, but it never completely boots. Any ideas?
I bought this tablet 2 days ago. Updated to the most recent samsung firmware (error?) but I am having the exact same issue so it seems. Keeps rebooting into TWRP. Made sure I did not install twrp app. When I just flash the rom without the gapps (arm 64 mini open gapps from this thread) it boots. But as soon as I install the gapps it is stuck at lineage boot image and keeps rebooting into twrp. Would appreciate some help here or would like to know what you did to solve this in the end.

Uh, if you'll need some help with 17.1 (I can't be bothered to deal with 16.0) feel free to msg me on irc/discord/hangouts.

Thanks for your rapid response LuK! I ran 17 already on my TAB A (2016, sm-t580) and liked it a lot but thought installation proces on t720 was more difficult. Therefore I chose to try lineage 16 first. If you would be willing to help me out (a bit) with 17.1 that’s even better? How exactly can I contact you?
I am booted in 16 now but without the gapps so seems minor issue but I don’t know how to fix it.

E1001: Failed to update system image.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e SM-T725C, and I am tring to flash LineageOS 16 (lineage-16.0-20190915_093407-UNOFFICIAL-gts4lvwifi) on it.

I followed the instruction, successfully flashed TWRP (twrp-3.3.1-5-gts4lvwifi.img) . But when I tries to sideload LineageOS, it gives the following error:

Code:
Patching system image unconditionally...
E1001: Failed to update system image.
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7

And then I found this line in lineage-16.0-20190915_093407-UNOFFICIAL-gts4lvwifi.zip/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script.

Code:
block_image_update("/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system", package_extract_file("system.transfer.list"), "system.new.dat.br", "system.patch.dat") ||
  abort("E1001: Failed to update system image.");

I have no idea why block_image_update failed.

This is not true.
I've confirmed Unlocking the Bootloader and staying on stock firmware keeps Widevine to L1. DRM Info shows L1 and Netflix pays in 1920x1080!

Isn't the 725 the LTE version? Pretty much all this stuff is WiFi only, from what I've seen in the threads IIRC it doesn't work on the LTE versions.

Hmmm, I've read about a few devices that can happen on. I'd rather have SD video than run stock software personally though.

However with the upcoming fixes to safety net checks that may not matter long in your use case? You may better off with a locked bootloader anyways with stock firmware.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9 (Pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    Instructions :
    • Download the latest build and gapps
    • Reboot to recovery
    • Flash the latest build and gapps
    • Reboot
    Downloads :
    Reporting Bugs
    • DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
    • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
    • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
    • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues. Any bug not reported in the bug report format below may be ignored.

-- bit more friendly stock -> lineage instructions --

    1. Unlock the bootloader
    - Connect to WiFi network
    - Enable OEM Unlock in developer options
    - Turn off the tablet
    - Boot to download mode manually by plugging in USB and holding all the buttons for few seconds
    - Follow instructions on the screen
    2. Connect to WiFi network and make sure OEM Unlock in developer options is still checked
    3. Flash custom VBMeta image ( https://dl.twrp.me/gts4lvwifi/vbmeta.tar.html ) in Odin ( use AP slot )
    4. After flashing VBMeta, boot to stock. It'll likely ask you to wipe data, if so do that
    5. Connect to WiFi network and make sure OEM Unlock in developer options is still checked
    6. Now you can flash TWRP ( https://dl.twrp.me/gts4lvwifi ) in Odin ( use AP slot once again ), for convenience you can hold volume up while flashing it so that you boot to recovery right after it's flashed
    7. Install Lineage × whatever else you need ( gapps, addon-su, ... )
    8. Format data
    9. Reboot ( make sure to not install TWRP app when TWRP asks you to )

    ---

Also Odin download for those who can't find it on their own https://build.nethunter.com/samsung-tools/Odin_3.13.1.zip

Do you mind me asking why? I'm not questioning your decision why, I just wanted to know if there was any particular reason you had. I hope I don't come across as being obnoxious.

    Thanks!

Well, I'm one of main LineageOS devs who also maintains like 10 devices ( see: https://wiki.lineageos.org/contributors.html )
I have no interest in looking at other projects.

you have make a great work for wifi variant. I can't see many differents between wifi and lte versions.

    ;)

    Thanks!

    Oh then do it yourself.

Uh so some of ~ bootloops ~ might be related to OpenGapps breakage which should be fixed in their next release I suppose?

See https://gitlab.opengapps.org/opengapps/all/commit/7a6668f8fb8c8df32eb491807ae93eeff0b59ad1 (you can manually patch that file yourself btw, it's in /system/etc/permissions)
