What are the best tools for rooting and theming this ROM?

LE: I've used Magisk 20.4 and Substratum. The ROM is stable and functional after one month of use. Thanks to devs!

I don't know if my phone's hardware has failed so I'm asking: does anyone experienced signal loss while using one of these builds?

Since the moment I've installed this ROM (20201222 build), I've installed also a few apps, some of them being old versions, unoptimized for A7. From time to time, I've experienced signal loss without any specific action. I thought this issue as being an incompatibility between the ROM and those 3rd party apks and I ignore it, until a week ago.

Addressing to this matter, I've reinstalled this ROM (20201222 build), clean (full wipe) and the latest build (lineage-14.1-20210216-UNOFFICIAL-jfltexx.zip) and tested them for a few days each, without installing any apks. Unfortunately, the signal loss issue happened again. Additionaly, the phone's original KK ROM backup fails to work after restoring it using TWRP, giving a lot of errors (processes has stoped), so I cannot use it to test the phone's signal.

Could it be a hardware issue or am I missing something / did something wrong?

I had the same thing happening and I decided to update the stock firmware from M919UVUFNH7 to M919UVUFOK3 and it fixed the issue. I used to get complete signal loss/issues, I believe it was caused by the outdated modem and baseband.

I'm using a S4 GT-I9505 (jfltexx), and I did experienced these connection losses (WLAN) too. I've tried both ROMs (lineage-14.1-20210216-UNOFFICIAL-jfltexx.zip and ...20211021...) in combination with XXUHPK2 and XXUHQK1 modems/bootloaders as well as TWRP 3.2.3.0 (jfltexx) and TWRP 3.5.0.9 (jflte). The issue was always the same. Therefore I think, it is not a hardware problem.

BTW it wasn't easy to install these ROMs. Initially, after installing ROM and GApps together, boot loops occurred again and again. I got it working by first installing just the OS ROM, then booting into recovery again, and then flashing GApps... Maybe it was a coincidence that it worked after that...

I'm using also a S4 GT-I9505 (jfltexx). During the last two days, I tried two more comboes, bootloader/modem: I9505XXUHQC1 and I9505XXUHQK1. The phone is still experiencing signal loss (network), both indoor and outdoor. What is weird is that for four days in a row, last week, the network signal was flawless.

Maybe some other users which do not encounter signal issues will tell us what version of bootloader/modem are using.

I think that these signal losses should not be caused by the modem software, because other LineageOS versions (e.g. 17.1) use the same modem driver (afaik), and there are no such problems. Or am I wrong?

Long story short...

If the phone's network is set on "Choose automatically" or set on "preferred network type - 4G" and manually search and choose the network, then, in short time the signal will drop and stay dead for eternity! It's like being an "LTE only" mode.

If I set "preferred network type - 3G", search and choose the operator and afterwards switch the "preferred network type" to 4G, the phone is working preferentially in 4G mode and alternates with 3G (probably depending of which signal is stronger), as I intended, without any signal loss/drop. After each restart, I have to manually search the 3G signal and switch to 4G preferred.

I don't know how your phones' signal are set but this is the only working mode to me. I tried three modems/bootloaders with no avail.

I'm glad it's working and in the end that's all that matters to me.
