Music playback

Similar to the problem described above I'm facing the issue that music playback doesn't work, with these exceptions or special properties:
  • I tried several music apps (official "music" app; Google Play Music; Shuttle+) - same problem with all of them
  • problem doesn't affect playback via bluetooth; playback via speakers or connected headphones is affected
  • problem only affects music; videos are not effected, also special music file formats (like .wav files) are not affected; ringtone/alarm/notification sounds/etc. are not effected
  • problem does not occur immediately after reboot; it occurs when switching from currently playing music track to the next (but it doesn't always stop on the first time switching the track)
  • Once the problem occurs I haven't found a way to fix it again other than reboot
  • LineageOS 14.1-20181226-NIGHTLY-hammerhead
Logcat error messages during playback with "Google Play Music" when the problem exists:

In comparison to the problem described by VincyZed:
  • I did not upload new MP3 files recently and do not have big ones (like 100MB) on my phone.
  • My phone is currently not short on free storage space (and wasn't since I installed LineageOS).
  • I converted a 320kbps audio file to 96kbps (constant) and it doesn't play neither.
  • I don't use or have installed Magisk.
  • Music doesn't work no matter where in the internal storage it's stored.
  • I haven't noted playback position jumps/changes on volume change. For me the apps seems to play files normally, there's just no sound. Just when switching tracks the delay until playback starts seems to be a bit longer than usual.

I can't tell for sure that it worked previosly, because I switched from stock ROM to LineageOS just one month ago or so, but I think it worked (it definitely worked with the stock ROM). The only change to the system I can remember was installing a LineageOS security update in december (but I can't tell whether that has anything to do with the issue or not).

I already tried uninstalling many apps, but that didn't help.

Thanks for any help to fix that issue.

I've been using Lineageos 14.1 (and Xposed) on my Nexus 5 for some time and am happy with it. But in the last week I've been having crashes, usually when waking the phone from sleep. When that happens I can sometimes just reboot but other times I was faced with repeated bootloops and I've had to go into twrp recovery and "reboot system" to get back to a working phone.

To resolve a boot loop the first few times this happened, I deleted the Davlic cache. That solved the boot loops but the intermittent crashes are still happening.

I updated lineageos to the Jan 3, 2019 but the crashes continue.

I just don't know "how" to troubleshoot this problem beyond what I tried. What should I do to find out what is causing the phone to crash?

Any troubleshooting suggestions appreciated.

Hello! since a few updates, when I'm using it, my phone randomly reboot. sometimes, it just reboot, sometimes it loops on google logo at startup when charging so I have to unplug it, start recovery (when it can) and reboot from recovery. I tried many times to wipe cache + dalvik but this doesn't fix. any help please?
Same thing here. Very frustrating.
Did you get any help?

I need to go back to an older version because of repeated crashes and boot loops.
Where can I find earlier versions of lineageos for hammerhead?
You sure you want to go back further than 60 days? I wouldn't recommend that, but if you really want older, let me know what you're after (give me a date range) and I can make it available as I have several older versions archived here locally.

Thank you for your kind offer.

Actually I think I solved the problem. It had nothing to do with lineageos. The real culprit was an app (Freecell by com.brainium.freecellfree) that I've used for years but something in its latest 'updates' caused the crashes and boot loops. I used Titanium Backup to restore the Freecell app to a previous version (1.5.3.70) and that immediately solved the problem.

So, I'm glad to state that lineageos with MicroG was absolutely not to blame and remains an excellent rom. I'm sorry to have raised any unjustified suspicion of it.

Thank you again.

Error Logs

As mentioned in a couple previous posts, audio is broken in certain scenarios with the 20181226 build.
I discovered the cause and it will be fixed in the next build.

If you want the fix now and don't want to wait 2 weeks to get it in the next build, you can just flash this boot.img in twrp.

Hi I installed the updated boot.img and flashed Magisk 18.0 zip again to stay rooted. A few days later I experienced jitter / lags and a wallpaper reset. I captured logs (ubuntu pastebin expires on 2019-02-16) using catlog app afterwards. The problems might be caused by Firefox, eBay or Nova Launcher app or this ROM. Furthermore my Battery percentage is jumping around but this is also probably not related to this ROM but to hardware.

I do not normally use antivirus in android either but I am concerned that any antivirus app I try crashes. Something seems to block them and that makes me suspicious. I used to be able to use them intermittently.
I don't use Play either and depend on the Yalp store.

You should no longer wait for miracles. Get the source code trees for both devices and compare them. Do not hope that anybody else will ever do it. Maybe things are technically more complicated than they seem.

I know, the idea was to ask anyone who has hope for the Nexus 5 (due to another device) if they have info about what's blocking the Nexus 5. To not have hope until the other device's news has something about bluetooth calling.

If you're rooted with magisk you can use Magisk hide.
Yes, you can still update lineage via TWRP if you're unrooted it doesn't require root.
