New home for the UNOFFICIAL builds of LineageOS 14.1 for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 (d2vzw) (SCH-I535)

Transitioning from the Q&A sub-forum "Level of interest in maintaining UNOFFICIAL LineageOS 14.1 for d2vzw ??"

This ROM is built only from source pulled from the official LineageOS repositories. Nothing is changed by me. You get exactly what Lineage would make available if the phone was still "Officially" maintained.

The only difference is my build is signed with my private key, vice the official Lineage key.
Since my build is signed with a different key, you MUST PERFORM A FACTORY RESET (which means WIPING DATA).

If you do not WIPE DATA, the flash will still complete, but when you try to run any apps, they will most likely crash.
You cannot backup your applications and restore them after flashing, so you will need to reinstall all your apps from scratch. This behavior is not an issue with the ROM, but an Android security feature to protect your phone data.

If you choose to install a Google Applications suite (aka GApps), you MUST flash the ROM & GApps AT THE SAME TIME. Said a different way....

You CANNOT flash the ROM first, let it boot, set it up... and THEN go back and flash GApps. This requirement applies to any Official LineageOS ROM.

Builds will come out mid-month to capture Lineage updated and android security patches.

While I have verified flashing the build on my own phone, and the process should work for everyone else.... I STRONGLY recommend everyone do a FULL BACKUP before flashing the very first time.

This ROM is ONLY for the VERIZON Samsung Galaxy S3, so DO NOT flash it to other S3 variants.

The most current build is available from:

The most applicable changelog for this build of LineageOS 14.1 can be found here:

STOP! DO NOT PASS GO!
You MUST also have an UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER. If you are using SAFESTRAP because you CANNOT unlock your bootloader, then you are out of luck. This ROM will NOT work with SAFESTRAP.

Make sure you're TWRP version is up to date! Older versions of TWRP will have issues flashing this ROM.

Make sure you are using the latest Modem. It should be I535OYDNE1
If you don't have it installed, you can download a zip, that is flashable through TWRP here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/i15enyq8wm759z9/d2vzw_MF1_firmware_NE1_modem.zip?dl=0

Hint: When using your SGS3 without a cellular plan (wifi only), make sure to put the phone in Airplane Mode to disable the cellular modem, but then turn on WiFi and Bluetooth. GPS does not seem to be affected by using Airplane Mode. The small airplane icon will remain in the status bar after turning WiFi and Bluetooth ON. Using this technique, with the phone in Balanced power mode, I can routinely get 6+ days of standby (phone powered on, but not actively used). There is also an Efficiency Mode, and Power Save Mode. I've experimented with Power Save mode, and went 10 days with mostly standby and some short term intermittent use; however the phone is slow to respond and a bit sluggish.

Battery Replacement info: For those interested, I am only on my second battery since I bought my d2vzw new. OEM battery latest almost 4 years. My second battery I bought off Amazon, from Anker. I continue to get very good life with the Anker battery. It also has the built in NFC antenna. At some point, I expect I will need to replace the Anker, but most batteries I see online, do NOT include the NFC antenna. If you've replaced your battery recently, and are happy with the quality/performance, it would be great to post the brand and seller for everyone's benefit

How many users do we have?

Dropbox doesn't provide any download metrics, so I have no idea how many people are using this ROM.
If you've downloaded and flashed, I'd appreciate if you'd either PM me, or make a post.
Posts would be preferred along with a note about how its is working for you.

I had just been using it for a short time in the last few days...

All i can provide is that it has been working very well with little to no issues to really report. I just have to use it a bit longer, myself, to provide anything substantial (since it's not my primary device).

Just an FYI/clarification for those who may not be aware of this minor thing...

Disable (aka set it to Manual) the LineageOS Firmware Updater within the Device itself. This just uses resources and Internet data. The Unofficial updates are provided by @mjb32803 and requires them to be manually downloaded and installed.

Thank you very much @mjb32803 for your time, effort and, importantly, your support for this development!!!

A few delays this week. Upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 Mate

I wasn't prepared for the impact of upgrading my system from 17.10 to 18.04, and things went a bit crazy when I tried to create a new build.
After spending a few days tinkering, I decided to follow my own instructions to recreate the build environment and setup the repository.
While frustrating, it was a good opportunity to verify what I had documents.
Needless to say, my instructions did not work as written, although I was pretty close and just a few tweaks were involved (thanks Google).
Short story is that I think I got everything working, and I am currently running a build.
Keep your fingers crossed (@23%) and moving along nicely.

Update:
Build done. Flashed to my phone and currently testing. So far seems good. This build was mainly to verify everything works after my 17.10 -> 18.04 Update. In any event, I will post through dropbox in a couple of days. FYI, The Android MAY security updates have not dropped yet, so they are not in this build.

Thank you *so* much for keeping this alive. I've been using my S3 for far too long, and it's just a mess of a hacked/rooted phone on the last official KitKat update. I'm moving later this year and will likely move the entire family over to T-Mobile (Sprint T-Mobile?) at the same time since I like the extended number of phones supported by their network vs Verizon (and I know my family will too, like the Honor 7X). Until then, freedom!

Appreciate the feedback. Battery life on my phone has been pretty amazing. Using the phone as a remote for Roku, and my WD TV Live streaming boxes, and occasional email checking, web browsing... I get 4 days between charges.

Am in the process of running a new build...

New Build 2018-05-20

Download and Installation info in Post #1
Yes it's only been a few days since the last build, but this one includes the May 2018 Android security patches. I have flashed to my phone and tested Play Store, Root Explorer, Firefox, Maps, Camera, Contacts, K-9 Mail... all seems good. Normally I would run the phone for a more extended period, but thought I'd make the update available quicker since it does incorporate the security patches.
Enjoy.

Update. 1 day 3 hours since flash. Working well. Battery @ 71%

I almost forgot to mention that this build has been working very well.

I haven't encountered any Firmware issues with it (thus far).

Thank you very much! :D

I would love so very much to update my SCH-I535 with your awesome LineageOS build - thank you for doing this! However, is it true that if my GS3 OTA updated to Android 4.4.2 than I'm totally out of luck and am forever stuck with crappy old Android?? :( I hope not :(

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but yes, with 4.4 you got KNOX installed and cannot unlock your bootloader without bricking the phone. :(
