[ROM][UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 17.1 for Xperia 10 II [OTA][SODP]

Search This thread
Will reflashing software binaries from Sony help with GPS and WiFi issues? Probably it will install correct drivers or something. https://developer.sony.com/file/download/software-binaries-for-aosp-android-10-0-kernel-4-14-seine/
I seriously doubt that - the SODP binaries are for the open source drivers, so it is really possible that the drivers of the kernel wont work with their firmwares. Also the AOSP based on SODP by Sjll does work - so it is more a LOS thing.
But hey - you have backups! So a little test wouldn't hurt :)

so after testing as a daily driver for a few weeks, i've come across some issues:

- full screen apps don't work: the setting reverts itself immediately
- livedisplay is crippled: night shift (or whatever it's called) does not work, nor is there even a setting for the display calibration to make colours more realistic (the 'natural' setting in iirc 'advanced')
- sound only works in calls when using the mic and the earpiece, switching to speaker makes the other party only hear garbled noises, headset doesn't work at all
- fingerprint unlock works but there is something broken with passing the biometric auth data to apps, e.g. my banking app says 'failed' immediately after saying 'fingerprint recognised', other apps throw similar errors
- battery light does not work: when testing the colours it's okay but nothing happens when a charger is plugged in
- wifi hotspot doesn't work: it turns itself off and says 'error'

i know it's possible these come from upstream, and there's always a chance that i'm doing something wrong. i did a clean flash a few OTA updates ago, and i'm not seeing these problems on my a5ylte with the same lineage version, but i'm using call recorder by skvalex and viper4android so these might have something to do with the sound issues.

i just wanted to document these so others know what to expect and maybe someone has ideas for a fix.

Hmmm, I can't confirm the following:

> sound only works in calls when using the mic and the earpiece, switching to speaker makes the other party only hear garbled noises, headset doesn't work at all

I've just finished a call using it.

> fingerprint unlock works but there is something broken with passing the biometric auth data to apps, e.g. my banking app says 'failed' immediately after saying 'fingerprint recognised', other apps throw similar errors

Lockwise works. Nextcloud works. "My O²" works. What apps you are having problems with?

> battery light does not work: when testing the colours

Yeah, we are still working on polishing the kernel driver. And making sure we don't break everything on older devices. Marjin was working on that, soo uhmm... Yeah. Idk whats the state on that...

I try to track the issues over here. But currently I'm full with other stuff and I have no internet since weeks...

I don't think GCam has any special requirements, except the Google frameworks... So - I guess yes?
Yep
Full support of Camera2 API
As I know stock ROM and LOS from @Sjll doesn support RAW output and other options

Here images what sould be supported for working GCam

@Simonmicro
Is it possible to add GCam support in your ROM?
What exactly do you want? The default camera of the LOS is already used (Snap). We could migrate it to Snap2, but this would "downgrade" the feature set of the app (loosing the qrcode scanner). When you want the Google Camera you should be able to just install it using the Google Play Store or just download the respective apk and patch the config as already by @Sjll done for her version of the rom.
I would like to not include it by default, as the main goal of LOS is to be clean from any Google stuff by default. Also this version of LOS tries to maximize the used Open-Source code, which would also interfere with this goal.

Is there any known issue with WhatsApp and voice messages? It is not possible to hear and voice messages. However it is possible to hear Signal voice messages. Moreover mobile data is not working. The howto was a bit confusing. At step 9 I was in the recovery, but I had no idea how to flash Boot, vendor and such. I then booted to bootloader, but that seemed also wrong. Finally I was able to flash it in fastboot.

Edit:
Did I get it right? I can sideload just the OTA package in step 9? This seams strange to me, because to that point there is no system installed.

I updated using `adb sideload ` and https://gitlab.simonmicro.de/androi...obs/6519/artifacts/download?file_type=archive (found at https://gitlab.simonmicro.de/android/lineage/lineage-pdx201/-/pipelines for master branch). Now org.linegateos.snap camera won't tak e pictures and freezes. Before the update it took pictures and Open Camera didn't took and froze as now LOS camera does. Thanks

Here last messages from `adb shell logcat `. Actions were: open it, press take photo icone. Result: it flashes, shows picture on the screen, then freezes.

Over-provisioned system image (580MiB), to allow install of OpenGApps and other stuff
Make sure to use the pico-variant, as the system partition is even with over-provisioning really small (as the installer extracts some more stuff on the first boot) - then install the OpenGApps zip like the OTA system update by using adb sideload [OPENGAPPS_FILE_NAME].
When I was installing this on Saturday, and I found this a bit unclear. I was able to install nano but not micro (micro installed, but the phone wouldn't boot and said it was bricked. Cue panic. Re-followed instructions w/nano instead and no problems).
I freaked out a bit when the GPS wasn't working, but turns out my house just kills the signal. Was working fine for either maps, osm+ or Fito track when out from under the rock. The front camera is working for open camera but not the default camera as above.
What apps you are having problems with?
My fingerprint reader isn't working for Keepass2 to do quick unlocks (ironic, as that is actually the only thing that really needs it). It looks to be some sort of Java NullPointerException. Copying it proved somewhat difficult (can't just highlight it for some reason). Lmk if the details would be useful and I'll see if I can figure it out.

More that all that though, thanks to all the devs working on LineageOS, and particularly Simon and Martin for putting this together and Simon for maintaining, and Sjll for her work on this ROM and the 18.1 one! Its a real quality of life upgrade having this available. Y'all are awesome.

The OpenGApps sizes are pico < nano < micro and so on. I'm sure that pico works, as I use it myself and (based on the size) also nano should work. I know that micro+ is broken - but as I said, I do not want to increase the system image size more to keep the update (and packages) small...

Hehe - same for me (gps). The cameras are still fun... Somewhere is some config screwed up... Also somebody (...) told me that the camera2 HALs are beyond messy...

Okay. Nett2Know... I'll add it to my issue list. Damn it...

I've just finished a call using it.
So after having done an update, where I had to manually flash all the things (neither the actual phone updater or adb sideloading worked, and I had to re-install updated gapps), the other party can only hear me if I have my bluetooth headphones connected, which is rather awkward for answering the phone. Strangely, as with the other user, Signal works fine for phone calls. If there's anything I can do to help debug, lmk.

anyone else having problems with the latest OTA? it boots then immediately shuts down. lineage recovery is a crapchute and says i need to reformat, but changing active slots - essentially going back to the may 10 release - works.

i'd like to know if this is reproducible by anyone..

Shoot, I can confirm! I had not yet restarted my phone for a while and therefore not noticed that yet. I'll take it down ASAP and look further into it (I'm also restoring an older version of it). Sh*t!

    Hey,

as you guys may have already noted, I have stopped the active development phase for this LOS port a while ago. This was caused by me just not having enough time to do everything and additionally maintain a LOS port.

Today I'll upload the last maintenance build to the OTA server and mirrors. Of course I somehow included a little bug, which causes the system to complain about "an internal problem", which seem to be caused by some interaction with the OpenGApps package installer. Now, it is a feature. 😄 I'll may post one more update, if I figure this one out.

Nevertheless, I'll shut down the OTA service at 2022-06-01 (see https://status.simonmicro.de) and will then archive all project data. It was a great time to learn many (new/nasty) things about Android and how everything works. I have to say "thank you" to everyone, who supported me and was on board with this project.

    See you next time,

Yes and no. Is it still my daily-driver? Yes. Have I any time to fix the current OTA builds? No. Any time to port to LOS 18+? Also no. So, I promise that I will update the post when I intent to not maintain this port anymore (and then also switch my daily-driver), but for now there also won't be any updates, as something somewhere upstream broke again...

A bigger problem is that I do not want to break anything with future updates (sjll had some great additions, but they would need a reformatted data partition) and therefore also have to go that extra step of ensuring this - which take even more time.

So yeah. This is the status now... As promised: When I give this port up, you will be notified.

Okay. Fixed. I've recently switched to a whole new repository architecture and somehow messed up a path for the SELinux permissions. So let us just not talk about this https://github.com/Simonmicro-Andro...mmit/470a6588ca88ff8554ee6e7ecb09e7aad3566bb1 stupid mistake :p
I'll retest the next branch this time, before blindly merging into the master (which was a mistake for itself).
