Whenever I install gapps or mind the gapps, the phone crashes and when it doesn't I can't download from the play store. Does anyone have a link to a good Google apps zip that works with 18.1? Thanks.

For some reason , Divest OS based on LOS 18.1 is the only ROM that has SIM/RIL working on my Verizon M8 , both LOS and AICP don't detect the sim but they boot up fine
That is because I was the one who reported the issue and the fix:

Any builds after July 24th should work fine.

If you want to use TRWP continuesly you should consider AICP with Android 11 (official Rom) based on LOS 18.1.
It runs fluently, no hick ups with the memory, no freezes, many possible adjustments.
This ROM is also accepted by banking apps.

Sorry to say this, I was a LOS fan a long time but I'm unhappy recently as the support for 18.1 is lagging behind.

If this is the way to an 18.1 official I promise to thnak you later :)
Unfortunately I don't think it'll go official. Nolen says he has a lot of devices to maintain so there's that.
But it's the most stable m8 ROM I've ever used, that's the good news. The best part, it comes with the Google stuff baked in so no need to flash additional zips. Plus you can disable the Google bits you don't want/need - including Google Play Services!

Looks like Bruno is super busy too , hopefully we'll have one more lifetime through AICP. But these builds from Nolen are super stable

How do you remove the unwanted Gapps out the rom? I tried using gapps-config but that did not work

When you say "unwanted", do you mean all Gapps or just specific Google apps? You can disable everything Google and replace those apps with FOSS ones. I tried it as an experiment and Google pixel launcher was the one I couldn't disable so I went the adb route i.e adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher.
Unfortunately this disables navigation gestures and the makes the recent button useless because it won't do anything.
The phone was still usable though. Makes you appreciate what guys like Tibor are doing with their Simple Mobile Tools suite of apps. I replaced most of the Google apps with his apps.

If you want to change launchers safely then use QuickSwitch. But you'll need Magisk installed for that. I use Lawnchair over the Pixel Launcher, so I change the default launcher in Quickswitch to that. I guess I'll use ADB to remove the unwanted Google apps. Does this new rom get OTA updates?

    old post, I realize, but just chiming in to say the later TWRP versions definitely have issues with the M8.

    3.3.1-0 worked perfectly for me too, after not being able to boot to recovery at all on the newer ones.
    Not sure why people are having issues with TWRP. Maybe the next release will work better, I dunno. All of them work fine for me. Be nice if people posted in the TWRP thread about it, with logs...

    @bgcngm Is there any chance that we will get official 18.1 build soon?
    Not sure about official, but I will soon release a new test build. I will decide based on the feedback.

    Hey guys!
    Good news!

    Since there were no updates to this rom in a very long time, i decided to build myself using the lineage repos
    You can get it here:

    I just booted it up, didn't test much yet but should have the same bugs/features as listed in post #1
    -Latest Lineage source
    -Latest security patch
    -18.0 -> 18.1
    Only single sim atm, but if people are interested in dual sim, i may build for this one aswell

    LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11 (R), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

    LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

    Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

    @bgcngm do you abandon M8?
    If yes then I have to go back LOS 17.1. with 18 not even QR code scanning working.
    No, I have just been busy with real life stuff.

    I'd definitely go for it. My M8 is up and running and carries a new M9 battery :)
