Hi guys,

I'm building an extra lean LineageOS 14.1 ROM for mido with a few added features. A lot of packages have been stripped down, only the bare minimum is built to provide a fast and stable ROM. That gives you much more freedom as you can install exactly what you really want from the Playstore. You can install most of the missing packages manually, they are available in a flashable zip on the server (see second post).

The work on this ROM is done by @Dark_Eyes_ he is been working too hard too add some extra features on this ROM. Thanks for this best ROM.

My approach for DARK ROM 14.1 is slightly different than for DARK ROM 13, as I try to add as many Pixel features as possible while keeping a solid LineageOS base.

SafetyNet

The ROM is already designed to pass SafetyNet out of the box. No need to lock the bootloader (which I advise you to do ONLY on a pure factory image install) because the kernel has the patch for it. If you want root, you'll need to install Magisk, which comes pre-rooted. Then, enable Magisk Hide in Magisk Manager, hard reboot and you should be good to go. Also, do not enable busybox in Magisk Manager, that will cause you to randomly lose root. You'll get all you need to know on the Magisk thread.

ViPER4Android/ViPER4Arise
The ROM is designed to work with both ViPER4Android and ViPER4Arise out of the box without the need for SuperSU or any Magisk module. The SEPolicy already contains the necessary permissions for them to work even in Enforcing. All you need to do is flash the package of your choice.

Installation

You will need latest radio and latest bootloader
Latest TWRP recovery is highly recommended
If you want HDR to work, you will need to keep Google Camera 3.2.045 (all newer versions won't work)

If coming from any other ROM
- Backup first... always backup first
- Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache
- Install DARK ROM
- Install provided GAPPS (mandatory)
- Install root package of your choice (I recommend Magisk)

Extra Packages
On the server you will find a file named ExtraPackages_date.zip which contains a few apps that are not available out of the box in my builds (see list). You won't have to flash it every update, since there is a survival script. I suggest you open the zip and remove the files you don't need before flashing it the first time.
Here is what's included:

Note that if you install my GAPPS and the complete Extras package, you'll end up with two Phone app and two Contacts apps. Simply delete the GoogleContacts and GoogleDialer in the system/priv-app and reboot. If you choose to use the AOSP Dialer instead of Google Dialer, you'll need to go to Settings/Apps/Gear Icon (top right) and choose the AOSP Dialer as default phone app, otherwise you won't be able to make calls.

Gr8 ROM,Shld try by everyone cos very stable and powerfully build,Magisk works perfectly(not pre-rooted) and substratum support with pixel like environment plain and neat,JIO works perfectly,Bugs pls comment below, Better battery life, REVOLT recommended for high performance with beautiful battery life use recommended #DARK GAPPS,WATCHOUT this could change ur phone..

Fingerprint settings will crash if u try add fp without previously setting up a screen lock separately....so first setup screen lock then add fp...both should be done separately

I missed the chance of trying that after first setup. But during first setup, I setup the screen lock and fingerprint together and it worked fine.

Try to use the one which includes Keyboard. I tried nano but there was no keyboard on first setup.

There is no Launcher in this ROM because we have made it minimal. You need to install GApps provided in OP to make it working.

OK, below is my review with this ROM. The experience may vary from user to user. I am just an average user with a keen eye for battery and performance.

The ROM without the Extras zip includes very little applications that is good.
The included GApps, I think, is necessary, as using standard Nano GApps, I ended up without a keyboard on first setup.
The read/write performance of the ROM is really good. I was amazed by how quickly it restored my messages and calls as compared to other ROMs.
The app opening speed, however, seemed a little slow. It has some kind of lag. Like, it waits for half a second when you click an icon and then loads the application which seemed annoying sometimes.
The built in camera is just average like with other ROMs. Google Camera Port is working fine with it.
The battery timing is good. But, I think, could have been better for idle.
Overall, a good combination of features and simplicity. The animations are smooth enough for my brain therapy.

Let's wait for sometime and see if he allows me to make an official build. But there is no difference in official and unofficial so you can use it without any hiccups.

It says nightly so frequently will the builds...and I think rom uses Delta updater app.
