Ah that's pretty cool! I just read it again and you're right, I misread. I didn't think of that .

But first I need to figure out how to fix a bootloop that happened after flashing Lineage and that remove encryption.

Youre better off moving to a better supported Treble Rom for this device as the lineage build here isnt being supported on a constant basis. The dev did great work as an initial build but other treble roms seem to be working without issue out of the Box. Im on a resurrection remix rom with everything working and no crashes.

@schwabe93 What you think, is 16.0 realistic for M5?

Yes and no. Yes 16.0 is possible because this device supports treble, but the dev of this specific Lineage build has basically abandoned this build. But lineage supports treble which means when 16.0 is made in the treble rom forum, if its has an A-Only rom version built, it should be able to be flashed to this device

Can you send me the link to the RR rom download page, thanks.

It says beta but everything works and no crashing. This will work even with custom recovery even though the page instructions say use stock recovery

Thanks for the link! I am eyeing CarbonROM Beta 1 (For Tablets) for my SHT-W09 C432 (8.4" tablet), because the rom specifies it's for tablets. Do I have to use one that's "for tablets"?

Could I use OmniROM 20180722 - b2 instead, even though it's not labelled "for tablets"?

Really the fact that it says for tablets doesn't mean anything you can use any of those ROMs for the tablets I can tell you that I installed the carbon ROM and based off of what it has to offer do you Resurrection Remix ROM has a lot more features and a lot smoother experience in my opinion. The developer of Havoc OS is creating a ROM for all of the Kirin 960 devices so I'm looking forward to flashing that one as it will have the latest security patch plus of a lot of difference customisation options and a pretty smooth experience with everything working plus that ROM is supported on an updated schedule compared to the other ROMs

Thanks so much! It's been a long time since I installed a custom ROM on something (not since my 2013 nexus 7). Does RR offer OTA updates? How is the battery life on it?

Thanks again!

The resurrection ROM from the openkirin website is in keeping up with the updates but there are Resurrection Remix treble ROMs on other forums that are being updated with the latest security patches as far as battery life if I don't use my tablet at all it drops 1% over 24 hours if I use it excessively throughout the entire day I dropped about 20% so the battery life on this tablet is amazing

Hey there,

Wanted to thank you again, I got it all installed. However after installing I don't have root (SuperSU won't open). Do I need to reroot the tablet after installing RR?

Yes, these roms are pure so no root is enabled but I flashed the magisk zip on mine and have systemless root with no issues at all. You should be able to do the same thing with Xposed or Chainfire

Yes I have twrp installed but not the one found on the Huawei M5 forum. I flashed a recovery from I believe the P8. I can get you the recovery in a bit. I used TWRP to flash magisk

Ah please let me know. I read through the thread for the unofficial TWRP posted here, and it didn't sound too promising. I wasn't too sure if I could flash recoveries from other devices or not. But still, please let be know what you used. Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

I use this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-emui-8-0-4-04-2018-t3773449 as you can back up and restore the stock ROM.

I want to be able to watch netflix and other drm-services in hq. Therefore i need the widevine level to be at level 1.
I heared on threads of other tablets that if you unlock your bootloader und flash roms you loose the level 1 ond go back to level 3. So i'm wondering if i would still be able to watch netflix and such after flashing rr.

As far as I can tell on resurrection remix it is L3.

I tried testing this one and I just get stuck at splash page. I even tried the original one I had that was working and it gets stuck as well. I had to flash the unofficial one for this device to get recovery working

Are you using TWRP from the p8 then? Or the unofficial M5 one? If you are using the p 8 one, do you mind linking the one that you've found to work? Thank you so much for all your help!

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

    What's working :
    • Boots
    • Wifi
    • Bluetooth
    • Camera ( Videos And Photos )
    • Video Playback
    • Audio ( Record and Playback )
    • Sensors
    • GPS

    What's not working :
    • You tell me :)

    Instructions :
    • Make a Backup of your Internal Storage
    • Download the latest build and gapps
    • Flash my TWRP Build
    • Make a full Wipe if you coming from StockRom, then Format Data (Attention this will wipe your Internal Storage)
    • Reboot to recovery
    • Flash my Remove Encryption file: Download if you want to backup your data afterwards when you installed LineageOS
    • Flash the latest build and gapps
    • Reboot

    • If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops and /sys/fs/pstore/dmesg-ramoops-0. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)

I was unable to get this ROM to work with SHT-W09 (8" WIFI only, EU model). It got stuck in a boot loop. So I had to reload the stock firmware (it was painful to find a method).

I used the 'russian website' to find the link to the official Huawei firmware and downloaded from Huawei's servers. I took firmware 8.0.0.163 (It was published at a later date than 8.0.0.168 yet has a lower version number - wierd?) Double check that the firmware corresponds to your model SHT-W09/SHT-AL09 etc - I made this mistake. I guess that the region is also important - for EU I took C432.

To recover to stock firmware I used the TWRP ROM in schwabe93's other post (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m5/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-2-1-t3813825). To reload the stock firmware I followed the instructions in Tutorial 2 https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/how-to/guide-manual-updgrade-to-update-oreo-t3758286. I copied the oreoupdater folder to an external SD card which was formatted as exFAT. In TWRP file manager I also copied from the external SD to the root of the internal SD.

In TWRP I started the zip flash from the internal SD as per the tutorial 2 instructions. It rebooted and installed the 163 firmware.

I can't remember exactly what I did after the update was completed, but it was something along the lines of: rebooting several times, using the built in EMUI recovery to low level format, then reboot then clear cache then wipe data then reboot a few more times.

If the EMUI recovery doesn't work after installing the stock ROM then you can try using fastboot to reload the recovery from the img files that you extracted from the full firmware zip file i.e.:
    fastboot flash recovery_kernel RECOVERY_KERNEL.img
    fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY_RAMDISK.img
    fastboot flash recovery_vbmeta RECOVERY_VBMETA.img

    Hope this helps!

Also for the benefit of others, it took me a while to work this out:

Reboot - hold down the power button.
Fastboot - As soon as it boots, and just before the mediapad screen, hold the volume down button WITH the USB cable connected.
Recovery - Hold down the power button and volume up WITHOUT the USB cable connected.

I thought so. That's the reason why I'll return my M5

It really is a piece of trash, this tablet, and **** Huawei for being ignorant greedy pricks, taking our community's hard work, and then stealing our personal property through bootloader locks. It should be illegal under right-to-repair and personal property ownership legislation. But, I digress.

You can fix the pixelation on the latest OmniROM builds by enabling "Disable HW overlays" in the developer options. Note the toggle isn't permanent; you'll need to do something with Magisk or use Tasker + Secure Settings (on boot) if you don't want to toggle it manually each time.
