Which file should I download?
I have a question. Because I have 2 xt1799-2. I backup the 2 devices in twrp. But in the twrp 'Restore' page, it can't recognize the backup file from the other device. It seems it recognize the 'Serial Number'
Can't you just rename folder to your serial number?
You can also flash file by file on fastboot just like stock ROM

Fastboot flash userdata data.f2fs.win

And so on

Can Also replace only big files inside already existing folder like system_image.emmc.win

Found this

i'm using oficial lineageos 18.1 now, i tried 17 and 16 but in the end ram usage is about the same when you update webview and browser.

I'm more concerned about the battery. But lineageos 18.1 is very bad.
I have an old record of lineageos 18.1 build 20230401
Aeroplane mode
Only use 7 minutes 'taobao' app.
After 18 hours, 100-(2+2+2+1)=93, but it only left 68%
93-68=25.
What drains that 25% !

Copy bug. (
It's said that in lineageos 16 last build 20200918 the bug has been fixed. But after I flash it, it has a boot error. )

My conclusion is that if you use the g5s as a second device and you need 64bit, stay in lineageos 15.1 or 16.

that ok copy bug is annoying but like I said you could use adb pull

lineage 18 battery is used by light sensor so the screen can turn on whenever the phone moves or room light turns on or off
you can also put your finger on the white circle across the camera.

lineage 17 battery is used by wifi and simcard drivers
9% after 9 hours is actually really good to be honest

I'm now using a file manager's wireless file transfer function to send the screenshot to my pc. But it can only transfer one file each time, otherwise files will be compressed to a .zip file.
Therefore if I need to transfer more than 5 files, I'll insert a TF card in the device.

This APP can transfer multiple files but you need samba and that's complicated on windows

Would be better if you installed linux on your pc

I install an FTP app in my device, and I use FlashFXP software in my PC. Now I can transfer many files at the same time.

Hi, bro, I forgot to ask your g5s version? Yours is xt179*?
Does your front camera work in the last build of lineageos 16.0 , the one without copy bug. But I have boot error, you remember that?

If you flash it again in the future, can you make a whole backup of all partitions? I try to restore them to my device to see if it still has a boot error.

Hey, bro. I find some interesting roms. I'm studying how to flash it.

Read the readme.txt file in the page.

Have you ever flashed it?

How To Port OEM Specific ROMs as GSI Using ErfanGSI Tool

Most of the people may not understand the meaning of title this post but if you ever read about Generic System Images i.e GSI then you have understood it. Back in kitkat, lollipop and Marhsmallow days people used to port ROMs, they still do from other devices with similar specifications. Its a tedious work to find phones with most similar specification and OS version. After the implementation of Treble in Oreo, it has become very easy (kind of) to port OEM specific systems. In easy words - You can port MIUI from Xiaomi, OxygenOS/HydrogenOS from One Plus, ZenUI, ZUI , Nubia UI and some more. Well, you need a treble supported phone with either 8.1, 9.0 or 10 Android Version. These GSIs will not work on Pre-Oreo Versions of Android.

ErfanGSI tool by developer Erfan Abdi is the best tool available for porting OEM specific ROMs. You can build a GSI just in just one or two minutes once you understood how it works. It is very user friendly tools where you have to just type some commands and tool will handle the rest of the porting process. Don't expect a perfectly working GSI from this tool because all OEM specific systems are different and system structure varies with each different device specially when the processor is different. Bugs will depend on the treble ROM of your device as well.

Sure, but boot issue is kernel problem. I think the way you flash the rom has nothing to do with it.
Same error for me on ProtonAosp. I tried every twrp and every different way of flash but it doesn't even show boot animation.

Will try but I think it may not work
This phone has GSI but it's not "full treble"
I'm not sure what that means but it probably means not fully supported.

The guy has a moto g7. He said the devices of lenovo and moto launched after 2017 can flash that GSI (at least 80% of the devices).
He has tried every GSI rom, and was only stable in MiUI, HydrogenOS, Sony Xperia OS.

He reminds us that because they are all based on android 9, we'd better flash lineageos 16 first, then flash the GSI after that.

1685259950573.png

He says that the inbuilt camera doesn't work. But the third party camera is ok. Better use the google camera.

1685264106793.png

He says 'Format Data' both before flashing lineageos 16.0 and GSI (in twrp 'Wipe' page).
Unzip the .7z file in your PC, and 'Install Image' in twrp 'Install' page
______________________________
But I did flash lineageos 16 last night, but I failed to flash the ZUI GSI. It was stuck in the moto bootlogo. Maybe it doesn't work for the ZUI GSI. I'll try the Xperia OS later.

The following website is a flashing instruction. It's also written in Chinese. I'll translate some key messages for you.

1685261423670.png

It seems that the instruction in the page is for all the devices.

First download an app. 'Treble Check'. To check if the device is project treble supported.
I did it last night. Moto stock oreo 8.1.0 of moto g5s is not supported. But after I flashed the lineageos 16.0, it's supported!

The following build of lineageos 16.0 has fixed the copy bug. But the front camera doesn't work for my xt1799-2.

'Seamless System updates' is not supported. It means that you can only download the 'A-only' file.

1685262989939.png

1685263552845.png

It says if the stock rom is under android 8 and below, and not support 'seamless system updates', we should download the 'A-only' GSI file.

If the stock rom is above android 9, no matter the ''seamless system updates' is supported or not, must download the 'AB' GSI file.

1685263722811.png

Installing instruction. (It's different from the readme.txt file in the download website.)
1. flash twrp

2. In twrp steps:
Wipe: It just says double wipe, actually I don't exactly know what it means. They always said that in the Chinese instruction. I dislike that. Why they just can not say it in detail?! Just need to type a few more words. It maybe 'Format Data' and 'Advanced Wipe' - 'Dalvik / Art Cache , Data, Cache' (I don't know whether 'System' is needed to be chosen. But I do choose it.)
But remember don't choose 'Vendor', otherwise you can't even see the moto bootlogo.

Install: tap 'Insall Image' - 'Select Storage' - choose the image file (upzip from the .7z file before.) - 'Select Partition to Flash Image' choose 'System Image'

After it finishes, double wipe again. (I think it means 'Wipe' - 'Format Data' and 'Advance Wipe' - 'Dalvik / ART Cache , Data , Cache', no need to choose 'System' this time.)

Method 2 is a fastboot method. Because I haven't used some softwares mentioned in the page. So I won't translate it for you.

You can search the other instructions on the website (My searching keywords are 'twrp flash GSI') and have a try. I failed to flash the ZUI GSI (fail to boot the system), maybe you can try the Xperia OS.

If you success, do you mind telling me the steps in detail, bro? Thanks a lot.

Update 20230528 19:00:

My steps above are right, I success in flashing the Xperia OS.

twrp steps:
1. Wipe - format data - yes
Advanced wipe - choose : Dalvik / Art Cache , Data, Cache , System

2. Install - Install Image - Choose the .img file upzip from the .7z file - 'Select Partition to Flash Image' choose 'System Image'

After it finishes, go back to 'Wipe'.
Wipe - format data - yes
Advanced wipe - choose : Dalvik / Art Cache , Data, Cache (No 'System' this time)

After a 5-10 minutes boot time, I'm now in Xperia OS. Base on XZ3.

But very buggy. Lots of bugs.
No navigation bar!!! I can only swipe down the quick setting center to enter the system settings. It only has a one button navigation bar setting, but the button doesn't appear.
Camera app crashes.
No sounds. 'Phone ringtone, notification sound, alarm sound' all are not contained in the system.
It's just a disaster.

The animation of the 'Picture' app is very interesting.
Volte works for my xt1799-2.

The animation of the 'Picture' app is very interesting.
Volte works for my xt1799-2.

Hi, bro, I forgot to ask your g5s version? Yours is xt179*?
Does your front camera work in the last build of lineageos 16.0 , the one without copy bug. But I have boot error, you remember that?

lineage-16.0-20200918-UNOFFICIAL-montana.zip
https://github.com/moto-msm89xx/rel.../lineage-16.0-20200918-UNOFFICIAL-montana.zip

If you flash it again in the future, can you make a whole backup of all partitions? I try to restore them to my device to see if it still has a boot error.

here you go

I think i can make lineage 17 backup work on your phone if you use fastboot instruction
but I have to test on my phone first
I'll do it later.

yeah, fastboot instruction is not going to work since vendor partition is not found and userdata can't bypass encryption.

but if you flash latest lineage 17 from github and delete /vendor/bin/swapon through twrp it will be exactly same steps I did before i uploaded the backup.

Doesn't work on lineage 16 and lower because it uses toybox instead of /vendor/bin/

I did a battery test of lineageos-16.0-20200101.
I inserted the sim card in it on 2023-06-23 . So there is a 'mobile network standby'.
Although it's not as good as the moto stock oreo 8.1.0, it's a lot better than lineageos 18.1.
No copy bug. Only front camera doesn't work for my xt1799-2.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.

    Instructions:
    • Download the latest build, official TWRP (3.4.0 and newer) and GApps (if you need them)
    • Flash the downloaded TWRP via fastboot
    • Boot to recovery
    • Format system, vendor, data, cache, and dalvik cache
    • Reboot to recovery
    • Flash the latest build
    • Reboot to recovery
    • Flash GApps and any other necessary add-ons

Note: Long first boot times are normal due to forced encryption. Please do not reboot your device when it is booting up the first time, instead wait patiently. If it takes more than 10 minutes to boot then please notify me here with a logcat.

    What's working:
    • WiFi
    • Camera and Camcorder
    • Bluetooth
    • NFC
    • Fingerprint - Oreo firmware required
    • GPS
    • OTG
    • Video Playback
    • Audio
    • RIL
    • VoLTE/VoWiFi
    • USB tethering/audio
    • SELinux: Enforcing

    Known issues:
    • You tell me

    Downloads:
    • Unofficial builds: GitHub
    • Recovery: Official TWRP
    • Google Apps: OpenGApps (nano package is advisable, but you definitely should avoid using stock/super packages)

    Reporting Bugs
    • All bugs should be reported here: Issue Tracker
    • DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
    • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
    • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
    • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues. Any bug not reported in the bug report format below may be ignored.
