Westwood, I tried all evening last night to install this Rom. I was unsuccessful in installing magisk. I would get one of two error codes: error 1 when trying to install magisk 17.1 and error 255 when trying to install magisk 16.0. I would also get an error trying to install the magisk uninstaller zip.

I have a Verizon LG v30 vs996 originally, which l unlocked the bootloader and rooted. For the last week and a half or so, I have been on your vs996 twrp rom (which us working great), but thought I would try this us998 twrp version.

My process to install was going into twrp, have backup (which I needed:)). I then wiped cache, dalvik cache, system and data.
I then flashed this Rom and magisk 17.1. The Rom would install successfully, but magisk would not.
I tried magisk 16.0 (no success). I would also install the Rom, then install the uninstaller zip (it would fail also). I tried different combinations, but none would successfully install.

After each unsuccessful try, I would do a clean wipe, them restore my backup (which would work).

Any suggestions I might try?
Thx.

OK not sure but you might try and download magisk 17.1 again. OK have you tried
1 install the the rom then go back and install magisk
2 install the rom by it's self let it boot to the rom then do the finger dance wipe your data again to get to twrp then install magisk
not sure if you have tried that yet but good luck

I will try that, again.:). I tried 8 or 9 different combinations of wipes and installs, 3 or 4 of which were using your "finger dance". I did lose root, so had to do it. But, I will try it again. I did delete the Rom and both magisks once, but will redo them (magisk, not the Rom-md5's match) and keep trying. "I think" one time magisk 16.0 did install, but, instead of booting, I did the uninstaller zip (only time it worked) and tried to install 17.1, which didn't work. Thx, for your tip. I will try it.

foamerman, I owe you and westwood24 an apology. I am now currently on us998 twrp (success).:).
Last night, I guess I did not install and reboot the rom, then go back into twrp and install 17.1 (I thought I did, but apparently not).

Just now (at your suggestion), I installed the rom and then rebooted and set the phone up (which I did not do last night), then did the finger dance to get back into twrp. I then flashed magisk 17.1 (success this time) and rebooted.

I am setting the ohone up now. The only problem I've encountered is the playstore wants to charge me for titanium backup pro which I've owned for several years now.

Thx, again for your suggestion. And thabk you westwood24, for your wonderful work.

I'm about to flash this stock ROM tonight and I was curious is that the normal procedure to install magisk? Install ROM then install then reboot into twrp then flash magisk? Or can I flash the ROM then after flash magisk without restarting? I have a h931 converted to Us998. Thanks in advance!

Flashing magisk(16.0?) twice worked for me. The first time gave me an error and the second time it would flash successfully. I am on h931 converted to uss98

After wiping and installing this via TWRP, it plays the LG startup tone with logo then goes into a screen stating "Decryption unsuccessful / The password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt." It gives the option for a factory reset, but that just makes it boot to that same screen. The fix was to do Wipe / Format Data in TWRP (there is a button called "Format Data"; the repair option in advanced wipe didn't do the trick).

Did you try to turn on encryption or something in TWRP ?

No one else has reported this. You can't use encryption.

It's a mess. Here's what I did:
*) Did a factory reset on stock firmware, which was encrypted.
*) Attempted to restore everything with TitaniumBackup, which totally screwed the entire system.
*) Flashed a TWRP backup of original stock image (no encryption), which put it into a boot loop.
*) Installed LineageOS, which worked but I wanted the good camera app.
*) Installed this 20D ROM, and got that "Decrpytion Failed" error.
*) Installed 20B (which just booted into fastboot I think), then 20D again ("Decryption Failed" error), then formatted data in TWRP.
*) Now everything works.

Perhaps it was a mix of having encryption at one point but not having encryption under LineageOS.

You didn't flash no verity after flashing the 20d or 20b rom? You planning on staying stock or rooted?

What are the chances of getting a TWRP flashable version of 20E?

Westwood24 has graced us with TWRP flashables in the past. Don't know if that's something that will happen with 20E. Maybe not as there aren't major changes from the 20D build.

The thing is, @westwood24 has done them for H930 (twice) , US998 (twice) and VS996 (once) . But LG keeps releasing "security updates" every two or three months - - and this is going to go on for three years... They aren't going to stop. Plus, now users of other variants are also asking for TWRP flashable updates, like India H930DS.

If he wants to skip and do every other one, I don't mind. I just hate asking him to release one every time, for every variant - - especially for phones he doesn't even own. (He has H930, I think.)

At this point I'd rather wait for upcoming US998 20F to be made TWRP-FLASHABLE.

    @westwood24

Thanks very much for the effort & hope you are well (re Hospital).

When I converted to H988 and then rooted, I also needed to flash a script to remove RCTD as well as a no-verity script.

Under features, you make a reference to verity. Does that mean those that root don't need to flash no-verity anymore?

Will we still need to flash rcdt after rooting?

    Thanks again!
I dirty flashed over 20b, and then re-flashed stable magisk. That's all. No need to flash additional two zips, as westwood24 dealt with it in the rom.

Thanks....dirty flashed over 20a then flashed magisk and all good..didn't loose anything.
    2
I have just completed a dirty flash from 20A to 20D and followed up with Magisk 16.0.

I noticed that the safetynet check fails in the Magisk Manager. I can't recall for sure if it was failing before?

Regardless, Google Pay and my banking app both open, so at first glance it doesn't appear to be blocking anything.
For most people it doesn't actually fail, it just gives cryptic message like "No valid response" but still is hidden from Android Pay, etc.
