OK so I'm confused on instructions on installation. 1)Do I need custom recovery (twrp,cwm) because it says go into recovery to wipe but then says to wipe 3 partitions through fastboot so which one is it? And cant you wipe all 3 partitions in recovery? My guess is custom recovery because of gapps but what does it mean to flash gapps with kernel then flash back aosp kernel? Where is this kernel with gapps and why is installation that way? Also to flash back the aosp kernel, is that regular zip or boot.IMG file? Sorry I'm no noob but I come from Sammy/HTC/lg devices where non of this is really common except boot.img/system.IMG on HTC only on locked bootloaders but other than that its purely recovery and zip and done on those devices and this one isn't so just looking for clarification. Also I did take a look at the flashing guide in beginning of the android development thread and it doesn't show any steps that OP suggests to get his ROM up and running.

With Sony phones (at least the recent ones), the recovery is contained in the boot.img file, but the boot.img for Lollipop does not contain one. Now, let me explain how to install the ROM, but please understand that the beta 2.0 for Sirius is not suited for regular use as almost nothing works (no Wifi, no Phone, no BT, etc.).

-Make a backup because you are most likely going back to your previous ROM after playing with this one.

-You need to wipe userdata. You can do that by either wiping it from recovery or flashing a userdata.img (through fastboot, "fastboot flash userdata userdata.img") from other Z2 lollipop builds.

-Then, you can flash the other .img files with fastboot. But please note that if you want Gapps and/or root, you should keep the current boot.img after flashing the other .img files, then boot to recovery, flash the desired .zip, then go back to fastboot and flash the new boot.img file.

-Reboot and it should work.

To summarise, a recovery is only needed for Gapps and/or root because installing the ROM itself is done entirely through fastboot.

Then, if you want to restore a backup made with a recovery, you have to flash with fastboot a boot.img that contains the same recovery. You can do that by extracting the file from a ROM .zip (open the .zip and you should see it). Once flashed, you can boot the recovery and restore the backup.

Beta v3 is released guys ;) check first post for what's working :) calling is fully functional with mic unlike other lollipop ROMs at the moment :p

Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app
The OP says calling might only work with sound with the headphone while you say mic works fine. Please confirm if calling works without headphones.. Can't wait to test... [emoji3]

Yea I'm facing the same issue.

I think we need to remove this line from the Beta 3.0 zip's updater-script. There is no such file in the zip.

set_perm(0, 0, 0544, "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh");

Can confirm. It works fine now.

Attached updater-script.txt

Rename and remove .txt and edit zip file to make it flashable.

Audio routing to speaker(headset doesnt work) and mic(works) still doesn't work.

Actually, there is no difference between this and infected_'s build... In fact, its easier to flash his build since you don't need a PC.
I beg to differ. This build has calling with mic working. Cm12 thou has GPS working. Besides, u can't compare like that. That are all working hard to get it to work as a daily driver ?

In terms of usability, this build is no update over CM by infected_.

While I understand the amount of hardwork that goes into development, I don't see a reason why the OTA1 needs to be advertised as Calling working when all it does is help you make calls with a headset, something that Infected's build had 3 days back...

I don't mean to dishearten you or hurt you, but I spent 2 hours from 3AM to 5AM to set this up expecting the calling to work, only to realize that it still needs a headset, something that was already installed on my phone.
but people said that mic is working on CM12, and on ota1 I can't make calls without hedset, so there is no difference if we are talking about mic

Hurt me? Uhm... Yeah ?
On my phone microphone in call works as it's supposed to. So maybe u flashed it wrong or didn't come from a complete wipe? I'm not here to argue with you about what version is better. They all have wins and fails at the moment. No need to discredit any one of them.

In call mic not working for me either.
Did full wipe and then install.

But, mobile data works for me , even though the 3g or H logo vanishes it still works.
On the cm12 build only 2g data worked so this is a plus for me.

    Hello everyone,

    We present to you Android 5.0 AOSP for Xperia Z2. This is for the people that can't wait to see how lollipop looks like on Z2.

    == Project status ==
    Working:
    - Bluetooth
    - Wifi
    - LED
    - Texting (with OTA 1)
    - Calling (with OTA 1)
    - Sound
    - Sensors
    - Auto-Brightness
    - Vibration
    - Screen/Touch
    - SELinux
    - Mobile Data (with OTA 1)

    - everything that's not in the "not working list"

    Not working:
    - Camera
    - Mic on calling??
    - Youtube Video Playback
    - GPS
    - ....

    == Updates ==

    OTA 1

    The OTA 1 is a flashable ZIP. It contains a new kernel that now has a recovery, however, in order to flash it on the base ROM without the first OTA, you will need to flash a kernel (any kernel for Z2) with a recovery, then flash the OTA (maybe via ADB sideload).

    After the OTA has been flashed you will have a kernel for this ROM with recovery, so you will not need to repeat this procedure again in the same way (but for the next OTA simply boot into the now existing recovery).

    OTA 1 will give you complete sound (with headphone jack detection and proper audio routing; sound in calls might work only via headset) and mobile data.

    THE OTA IS NOT A FULL ROM! YOU FIRST NEED TO FASTBOOT
    FLASH THE IMAGES FROM THE MAIN DOWNLOAD. IF YOU FLASH ONLY THIS,
    IT WILL NOT BOOT!

    - You have to be on the main ROM first; if you are, go to the next step, if not, see the main instructions first
    - Download the ZIP (see Download section)
    - Flash any kernel for Xperia Z2 with recovery
    - Boot into the recovery
    - Flash the OTA 1 signed zip
    - Wait until it's done (it might take a moment)
    - The update will tell you when you can reboot
    - Reboot
    - Test&Report!

    Thank you for choosing krabappel2548 + cheep5k8!

    == Download ==
    Download all files from the correct device folder, can be found in the common-files directory, system and kernel are in the version directories :)
    - ROM: Xperia Z2 AOSP 5.0 Beta v2.0
    - Gapps can be found in the main directory ;)
    - OTA 1: Xperia Z2 AOSP 5.0 Beta OTA 1

    - OPTIONAL: Sony's Unified Kernel built for Z2 (UNOFFICIAL) (includes patches for voice calling, video playback, etc.; basically, everything works except for camera)

    == Already on this rom?? ==
    No need to wipe data unless I tell it in the thread :)
    - Just flash system.img and boot.img using fastboot.
    - Don't forget to flash gapps by hotbooting a kernel with recovey ;)

    == Installation instructions: ==
    - Wipe userdata in recovery
    - flash all 3 partitions using fastboot
    Don't do this when you don't know what you are doing!!

    You can flash gapps with any kernel with recovery. Just flash back the AOSP kernel to boot into device afterwards :)

    To the proceedings

    Hello everyone,

    At this point just a few words regarding etiquette and the progress on the project:

    The project is a Beta and marked as WIP. It is known to us that not everything works, and maybe not even everything as advertised with each release (full or OTA).

    We are very sorry for stuff like that the OTA ZIP installer is broken, but you've to to cut us some slack, really, with functionality on the ROM.

    First of all without starting a flamewar, the CM12 build is just mostly built from CM sources while we actively work on AOSP code. Regarding that the progress we made from the initial release on the 16th up to now, or even the progress krabappel2548 made before making an initial release is quite considerable.

    Regardless, this here is not a daily driver and it will not be so until we flag it as such. You can not magically expect everything to work just because we push a new update. Some things will work, some will not.

    There might be regressions (i.e. stuff that used to work doesn't again), and some things that work for some people don't work for others. Such is life and development on AOSP.

    At this current point we do not guarantee any functionality (and neither do we for bricking your device, as always).

    If you spend half of the night installing the OTA and then it doesn't work like Sony's ROM that will be released at some point in 2015, well, we can't really help you there. They have the magic sauce (i.e. secret source code, blobs) and additional resources.

    But you are always welcome to help us. Anytime. We're hiring.

    Seems @cheep2sk8 got modem working and I found a way to patch kernel to allow proper net routing for mobile data ;) I can confirm mobile data will be working on next release :)

    Ok, to everyone I'm getting closer to fixing the mic bug. I'm working on my Z1 now, but if it's fixed there, it will be fixed here as well with similar code ;)
