another stupid question ;)

will we be able to build cm6 with this one?
No you can not build CM, though you might be able to port with trickery.. ( I'm not going to explain )...

Regarding if you need SD-Recovery? idk if cwm recovery will work, I'll test when the wife gets home and I can do without the phone calls...

but, you can flash the sd-recovery from cwm to boot sd-recovery and use it like normal..

Hey Eugene, you talked about going back to 2.1 if we had that parts you talked about, if he had them we could get back without traces?

I'm asking this because i need to fix my Flashlight that chinese 2.2 + froyosense ****** up, and for warranty i don't know which ROM i should use.. Since motorola is still officially in 2.51

Thanks.

Technically yes. I still need to test out flash the radio / modem though..

so, instead of cwm recovery i can use your sd-recovery? just got it from the market.

but all this has no effect on working on the kernel or bootloader, right?

Any news here?

I'm trying to get your method working with a self created update zip for the Pay 5.1 rom. Unfortunaly I'm always stuck on the Motorola Logo.

The bootloader isn't the problem I checked that. Is there anything I have to do on your script?

A small howto would be really great.

Thanks for your work man :D

Your sd recovery, just like the latest cwm, gives me a blank screen when booting into recovery.
Tenfar's recovery works though.. has anyone got an idea how to fix it?

/e

Meh, I still needed to disable usb debugging. Alright then, it works fine.

has any defy rom developer used the cookie cutter yet?
Actually I'm trying to get this working with a selfcreated ROM since 2 Weeks or so... have a look here at the german forum: http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...ate-zip-als-komplettes-rom-update-nutzen.html

Unfortunaly I'm not already done. I was able to install the pay 5.1 ROM with this method, but it was unstable because /data was inaccessable

Still working on it when I got some free time, as most devs included the sd-recovery already. So we should be able to get new ROMs running without SBF Flashing and so on

hi all,
I dont really understand what is this update.zip about? is it a way to root the device plus and upgrade of the system to Froyo?
just to install SD recovery, copy the file in the card and install restore and restart?
sorry for the question maybe it is too simple, I just got the device and diving in forums for two days already....

cheers...

update.zip is a possibility to update your system from the SD-Recovery. You create your system in this zip file as you won't it to have on your device. Then reboot into SD-Recovery and apply this update. Also you can run some custom scripts like deleting all files with a special ending and so on.

Here is a description how you can use a update.zip to flash a whole ROM. This is new and not used on the defy. With this possibility you can directly jump from one ROM to another without flashing an SBF. So its extremly quick and simple to do a upgrade from Android 2.1 to 2.2 ;)

U have to do:
- root your device
- reboot
- copy update.zip to your SD Card
- Install SD-Recovery
- Start SD-Recovery
- Push "Install Recovery"
- Push "Reboot Recovery"
- wait for the green menu to appear :D

Hi Eugene,

In the post-install.sh I see you remove almost everyth from system, but you don't remove bin nor etc.

Is it intentional for some reason? When u tested, did you get to the conclusion that wiping bin and/or etc made the whole thing break?

Thanks in advance

I think he's not. If you look at the zip I provided in the chinese 2.2.2 thread, you'll find out that I too deleted almost everything in /system, inclding bin etc.

I've tested it with both recoveries, apparently it didn't break anything, not that I know of anyways.

What are you doing exactly? When are u stuck ? After flashing the cookie cutter template? Or is your problem that you don't get to enter into SD-Recovery? (I can't either btw).
