Welcome...

==========================
| TheWebMachine's UltraStable ROM Series for Fuze |
|........ Built on WM 6.5 ........|
==========================

CURRENT VERSION: v1.13.23037
NEXT VERSION: v1.??.?????

THIS ROM IS FOR GSM DEVICES ONLY! DO NOT FLASH TO NON-GSM DEVICES!!!
(SPRINT, VERIZON, ALLTEL, TELUS, etc.)

Introduction:
Having been lurking around these forums since my first HTC device a few years back (T-Mobile Dash), I've watched many great chefs produce great ROMs and thought to myself, "Damn, I wish I had time to do something like that." Well, I've recently decided to make time. In the coming days, I will be developing this thread in preparation for my first release. I urge you to subscribe to this thread and check back often as I will be posting updates of my progress and may also "reach out" for a little assistance while wading my way through my first solo release. (I'm not afraid to "Stop and ask for directions." ;))

Vision, Mission, Intentions:
My perpetual goal is to create and maintain one of the most STABLE WM6.5 ROMs available. I will be taking a different approach to cooking than most chefs...I will be releasing only major updates, that I deem fitting for release, resulting in VERY stable (but less frequently updated) ROMs. I intend to make as much of my ROMs "optional" components uninstallable (cab'd) as possible, so that YOU may easily customize it to your liking. This ROM is for those of you who are looking for a clean-cut, fast, stable, "business worthy" ROM with a steady and solid development path...think of it as "Stock: Reborn!"

Contents:
  • Post #2 -> News | Changelog (9/5/09 | 9/5/09)
  • Post #3 -> Known Issues | Wishlist (9/13/09 | 9/1/09)
  • Post #4 -> Screenshots (pending release)
  • Post #5 -> What's Included | Downloads (9/5/09 | 9/5/09)
  • Post #10 (still, LOL) -> FAQ (9/5/09)

READ ME!
My goal is to keep this thread as clean as possible. I don't like clutter. Use the FAQ AND THREAD SEARCH FUNCTION to see if your question has already been answered. Currently, the ROM is in early development...posting and asking when it will be ready isn't going to expedite the process in any way...and then I have to waste the time of a Mod to have your posts removed which, I can assure you, will greatly annoy all involved. Besides, that's certainly no way to make friends around here! Please keep the non-development related posts to a minimum. I don't need a post telling me you've downloaded my ROM, that's what polls are for. I hereby give the Mods who frequent this thread my 'permission' and blessing to delete any post that could be classified as "clutter." You have been warned!

First time flashing? (CLICK HERE!)

Cheers!

NEWS:

-09/05/2009 @ 11:00PM(EDT)-
THE TIME HAS COME! v1.13.23037 is now officially BETA. I have just
uploaded the first .zip to RapidShare and will be updating this entire thread
with all the goodies. I am looking forward to your feedback on my first-ever
public ROM release! There are a few things to note, and I would like to
remind you to please read the "Known Issues, FAQ," and "Change Log" for
important details about each release before posting a question. I will be sure
to carefully document all important matters in these sections. The most
important thing to note: I have removed FingerKeyB from the initial config.
It was taking WAY too long to install and left you staring at the Chome
screen until it loaded the config app. You can easily install it when you are
ready from the \Windows folder. If future versions install faster or I can
create a loading screen of some sort, I will re-enable auto-install.

-09/01/2009 @ 12:45PM(EDT)-
I'm now running v1.12.23037(ALPHA) and am pleased to say that an official
beta release is nearly here!!! I have one thing I'm going to ask of
someone...something I am not sure how to do as I've never done such a
thing on windows mobile: Can someone create me a VERY simple CE
executable that, when executed, displays a dialog box (no buttons needed)
with the message "Please wait..."?? The reason is thus: I am including
FingerKeyboard2 in my ROM because I feel it runs 100 times better than the
HTC SIPs. The problem; it is a cab installer that loads the config app after
installing (requiring me to hide the UC window), but takes several moments
to install before showing the config, leaving the user to see what appears to
be a ready today screen that simply doesn't respond in the meantime. I
don't want to confuse users. The simple dialog would be one solution. The
other is to convert the cab to a package and cook it in...but I want all
extras to be easily uninstalled and update-ready to remain in-line with my
mission. If anyone would like to undertake this seemingly simple task for me,
I would greatly appreciate it. I will release the first beta to everyone within
a few days of fixing this final "glitch." Everything else is running well. See
the first couple posts for the Wish List and What's Included to see what else
is going on. :)

-08/12/2009 @ 10:30PM(EDT)-
After tons of chaos, I've found some time to resume working on this ROM.
I'm now running Alpha8 and am pleased to report that I'm down to two major
bugs holding up the release of a beta. One is relatively new (an issue with
WiFi, well a big mess of issue really) and one is relatively old (a freeze up
issue with poutlook). I have migrated to the 230xx builds, which cleared up
a few issues I was having with Alpha6 and below. I have a lead on the WiFi
issue (a package I changed with build 23022) and am edging closer to
completing, what I'm starting to call, "Franken P. Outlook." Something I've
noticed about poutlook (since the dawn of WM6.0) is the fact that there is
no truly stable build of it. Every build carries over several bugs of some
previous build and several new bugs of its own. Some newer builds will even
reintroduce long-resolved bugs of previous builds for no logical reason. So
I've endeavored to create a hybrid build of poutlook...one that contains the
stable components of each of the WM6.1 and 6.5 builds recently released.
(Hence the name. ;-) If anyone would like to suggest poutlook builds with
their strengths and weaknesses, please post the OS version and build the
version of poutlook originates from. It is most important to include what is
most stable about the build, as that will determine what is useful from it.
Thanks again for your patience!

-06/27/2009 @ 4:00PM(EDT)-
I am now on Alpha4, but had to temporarily suspend development to be
present for the birth of my first nephew (required a trip out of town).
When I return home, I will begin working on Alpha5 to work out the bugs
in my current build. The biggest issue I encountered (which has hindered
my bug hunting until I return home) was a complete clash with WMWifiRouter
(v1.35-build 850)...my guess is an incompatibility between WM6.5 and the
reg hacks performed by WMWR. I will HReset and resume bug hunting without
WMWR...the only reason I installed this soon was to have internet while out
of town (I prefer to use WMWR over WMICS).

-06/24/2009 @ 2:00AM(EDT)-
I can assure you, this is proving to be much fun! :) I am now working on
Alpha3...we won't discuss all that has transpired in the Alpha2 today. LOL
Just know that it was a learning experience...and I learned a lot. In other
news, I have gained perspective on how I intend to develop the individual
"flavors" in this series. These are now VERY briefly outlined in the What's
Included section below. I'll begin elaborating on this as the builds progress.
I've also updated the first post with some credits. These people deserve
serious recognition for their hard work and devotion to the community here.
Please check out their work, as well. Thank you!

-06/23/2009 @ 2:30AM(EDT)-
I ran my first alpha build today...essentially just the base "clean" ROM with
some fixes and tweaks to start. Identified bugs and am working on another
alpha to be built tomorrow. I've started cataloging packages and researching
version/stability history. As I verify fully stable packages in alpha, I'll begin
listing them in What's Included. Feel free to recommend packages (both
OEM and CAB, as I want things to be rather modular when possible) but if
you are recommending something with known "unresolved" issues, don't
expect it to be included in the first release.

-06/22/2009 @ 8:20AM(EDT)-
Thread created, some general info added, initial format created. I've just
cooked my first "alpha" build. Planning to backup and flash it shortly...

Known Issues | Wishlist

KNOWN ISSUES:
Code:
-v1.13.23037(d)-
 * FingerKeyB cab included, but not installed by init config (long install). Cab
is in \Windows for your installing pleasure or download the EzInput SIP
    from my downloads section.
 * TitaniumWeather Chome plug-in doesn't appear to be working in this build
(at least, not the latest version I found).
 * My previous hacks of the hardware button volume control no longer work
(since build 23028) can't find another workable bypass (even with S2U2).
I've included RaphKeyboardControl in hopes of manually remapping, no luck
    so far. See Start>Settings>System>Keyboard Config.
 * I only mention this because some people may believe it to be an issue... I
have disabled the default vertical scroll bar in GWE. This corrects a
number of crazy cosmetic issues with the dialer and other apps that take
exception to the larger bottom bar. I'll be posting a cab file to revert my
changes soon, if you really would rather see the ugly v-scrolls everywhere.
 * I tried the Rhodium V1E package and have determined that something in
the package (not sure which part or parts just yet...leaning towards
SensorSDK and/or Album3.0) is causing HUGE issues. I do NOT recommend
using Rhodium on this build at this time.
WISHLIST:
Code:
( ) A very simple CE.exe that displays a button-less dialog with "Please wait..."
---PM me if you can help!---

( ) Moderation capabilities within my own thread, if possible. Anyone of rank
care to comment? :)

( ) A truly stable build of poutlook!!! All these WM6.5 builds seriously suck!

( ) More time in my day to work on the crap I really wanna work on...like this ROM!

What's Included | Downloads

WHAT'S INCLUDED:
Code:
Brief outline of my coming "flavors" of ROMs in this series (may be subject
to change, details below):

1. US-Core ("Slim"): Will provide the core clean build of the OS with power,
performance, and other tweaking/hacking/bugfixing. Only basic application
set with "OEM-only" packages will be cooked into the ROM...all other
tested/stable apps will be provided as CABs for your modular convenience.
This will be an almost-bare system...perfect for anyone using their own UC
from SD.

2. US-TF3D (and eventually US-TF3D2): Will provide US-Core plus either;
original TF3D with Rhodium Enhancements, or TF3D2 full Rhodium package.
TF3D just runs better cooked in...and I should be able to churn it out in
tandem with US-Core.

3. US-IT ("Business/IT"): Will provide US-TF3D (or TF3D2) plus a custom
package and cab set geared towards the Business and IT Professional. This
will actually be my personal build. I will make most (if not all) of the IT only
apps CABs for uninstallation by the non-IT business user.

Specifics of each build (as they become available):

1. US-Core
   * Based on 23037 SYS/XIP.

I've cleaned up the thread a bit.

The reason for TWM creating this thread prior to the ROM release is so that people can know what to expect from it upon release. For example, what OS build he will be using, what applications he will be including, what known issues exist, etc...

I've also edited the thread title for a little more clarity.

Thank you for your cooperation/understanding,

Awesome! Thanks for the assistance. I realize where I went wrong in my thread title, total oversight on my part...that's what I get for working on it at 7am. lol

I hope I can be a great Mod like you someday!

FAQ

FAQ:
Code:
Q. [B]My phone behaves weird upon flashing your ROM. I was running the
stock ROM or a radically different ROM from yours previously. What is wrong
   with my phone?[/B]
A. [I]You need to perform a hard reset after flashing a new ROM. It is generally
recommended to do this when you reach the first alignment screen. This
   eliminates those "ghost" flashing issues.[/I]

Q. [B]Can you run TF3d or TF3d2 on US-Core?[/B]
A. [I]US-Core is optimized to run Chome (Titanium). Since I will be releasing
US-TF3D a few days after each US-CORE release, you might as well wait for
the TF3D optimized versions to ensure everything works as intended.

leave it to NATF to come to the Rescue!!!

although, it would be interesting to see what TWM puts in this rom. Like the flashing whore that I am, you can bet I will flash it. looking forward to the release.

I am expecting some nice tweaks for optimum battery use, speed can be partially adjusted but not the power. TF3d 2 is must, some other dialer will go if no Tachi. But it should be power friendly. Take care. Cheers.

Priorities

Considering just how intensively I use my device, efficient power management will be a high-ranking priority in this ROM.

My objective will be to release both a CHome-only version (likely a "lite" ROM) and one with TF3d2 included (despite the fact that I prefer it over CHome, it is FAR more resource intensive)...I will also attempt to offer a specially built cab of TF3d2 for my lite ROMs designed to be as stable as possible for my builds. You must remember that the "Primary Directive" of this series is stability...so the TF3d2 ROMs will likely be built second, once the devs working on the Rhodium port fix a few bugs I find utterly annoying.

Here are my priorities:
  1. STABILITY, STABILITY, STABILITY!
  2. Performance
  3. Efficient Power Management

I will attempt to find a happy medium between power and performance, but when that's not possible, I'll fall more on the side of performance for one key reason: If you get it done faster, you save time and (consequently) power. ;)

---

By the by, NATF stopped by because I had asked him to take a look and clean things up for me. His ROMs have always been my favorite and I trust his judgment. So this probably won't be the last time he steps in and works his Mod-ly magic around here...you all best behave yourselves; cuz NATF is watching you!!!

Hi,
I personally think you should hold off posting a rom until you've actually got a rom to post. ;) Otherwise its wasting everyone's time. Having said that, good luck with it. I hope its everything you hope it is.
Regards,
The current "In Development" purpose of this thread is to discuss the up-coming ROM's development...where else would you have us discuss it? And how am I wasting your time? The titles says "In Development!" Doesn't anyone know what that means? It's the "instant, just add water" mentality of this country that has been irritating me most lately...no one wants to take the time necessary to do things right.

My ROM is obviously not targeted to you...so why bother posting here? You read my posts (and NATF's - A Mod), you chose to write a reply, you wasted your own time...and everyone else's. Thanks for your "help."

{I invite any Mod reading this post to delete it and the preceding post quoted herein. (Reason: Rubbish) Thank you for your assistance.}

Just wondering.. if the ROM is all about stability, how bout a TF3D version instead of TF3D2? TF3D's definitely more stable right?

My thoughts -
1. Make sure the ROM doesn't eat up much battery - this is a hidden killer. If I flash a ROM and it eats up my battery, I'll probably reflash soon and won't check the ROM out for a long long time.
2. Don't bundle apps that are easily installable.
3. Solve some basic issues that everyone wants - Raph has sucky fonts, a lot of things can be tweaked, right size of fonts, better notification windows etc. These are not big things but only a handful roms got the right balance (eg. the old ROMeOS)
4. Don't go for the goodiness - if you do, make sure there is a version without one. For example - for a lot of us, the TF3D2 stuff is not stable enough. Again, we don't want to flash our phones to chicks - we want it to really work well.
5. Overall, don't make it too personalized. Again, we know it's your own baby, but watch out for choices that would compromise over things a majority of end-users might want.

Again, here goes my rant, my respect for taking this up!

I have to agree on the lack of customization on your part. Not to be rude but most of the themes and graphics I see on xda are really terrible. Big companies like HTC and M$ spend time and money to make their UI's useable (ok maybe not M$) and believe or not, a cut a paste job of some graffiti and unreadable, "stylish" fonts doesn't make the ROM cooler.

Also I know this isn't a wishlist but if you could not use a taskbar theme that would be very, very nice so users can choose their own.

My ROM is obviously not targeted to you... and the rest of the rant
Wow, you have an attitude problem. I know you don't care, but after that tirade, the hell if I'll ever try your rom, much less send in a contribution. Is the 'just add water' mentality what's really wrong with this country or is it hot heads like you? Everyone's entitled to their opinion on this forum, so why should you decide whose is 'rubbish' and should be deleted? Try reading the forum rules when you get a chance. If I were NATF I'd be embarrassed by that outburst and I'd be reading you the riot act.
