For some reason after updating from 1.7 to 1.8 and charging my phone for 5 minutes it has came up with a message that my device is overheating and has stopped charging

Battery & Shostock v1.7 & v1.8 with Exchange

My phone is a company phone which uses Exchange to connect to corporate Exchange servers for e-mail and calendar. I found Exchange on Shostock v1.7 & v1.8 is draining battery to the tune of ~30% per hour. When I checked battery statistics, I see the Exchange application is using 64% of the battery. I see constant 4G/wireless activity/connectivity when the phone on.

When I removed my Exchange account on Shostock v1.8, then the constant network activity stopped. I had no battery issue (Exchange constantly running) with rooted stock GB or ICS. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or input.

I'm using a corporate exchange account with my phone also, I have had issues in the past with exchange causing wake locks usually removing and setting the account back up solves the problem.

If your sync setting is push and you get lots of email, this can happen.

Do you by chance use Smooth Calendar app? New update for that app can cause battery overheating; recognized issue.

I use smooth calendar. The developer reverted back to the version that doesn't drain battery. He tried to revamp it a couple of weeks ago but it didn't go over too well. Version that's on play store now is back to the good original version.

One thing I noticed fixed with 1.8, on the previous versions and some other JB rom's I tried, the volume was super loud with head phones. I sometimes relax/go to sleep with them on listening to music, and the lowest setting was what would be like 5 clicks normally which is loud if you just trying to sleep lol.... all is good now though, works perfect.

So once again nice job Sho and J. Not sure why so many are having battery issues, I'm getting awesome life and I use my phone a lot whether phone calls, text, on screen time etc. I've gotten over 3.5 hours on screen time, and on Sho2 fully tweaked I could get like another 30-60 minutes over that, so for an still "not tweaked" rom this is damn impressive.

Thank you for the tip. Now that I added back the Exchange account, it's not taking up 60+ percent of the CPU. Will keep an eye on this over the next day. Already been a couple of hours and it's much better. Now if I just could figure out why I see many duplicate entries for my calendar for the same meeting. Had that problem with 4.0.3 stock, 4.0.4 stock with non-root and root. No issues with duplicate entries with Gingerbread. Will have to keep searching to figure that out. Many full wipes, etc. just hasn't solved that problem.

Anything would be fine with me. I would like the stock battery from the GS3 JB with the percentage in it. The one we have now is the small one from GB.

SS2 one was great. It's a bit easier to read than the current battery icon IMO.

BTW, is there a setting to change how long the screen stays on when you receive an email or txt notification? The lock screen comes on for 2 seconds and then shuts off. By the time I get it out of my pocket it's already turning off LOL.

I've never looked at the time on... that's just how stock has always been... IMO its stupid to even do that which is why I enabled the option to turn that off in the MMS setting.

Hi Sho, was just about to upgrade to 1.8 and noticed you have revision coming soon. I see that you are removing NFC support. Can I lobby to keep it in? I see you state it's hit or miss but it works for me, so it's kind of nice to have in it. How about leaving it in with just a Disclaimer that it may or may not work for someone.

Whatever you think works best works for me! If I didn't trust your judgment, and agree with your choices, I don't think I would have followed your work from GB to ICS to JB! Seriously, it's minor, so whatever you decide will get a thumbs up from me! (not that that means much, but hey..)
