Re: [RoM][XXLSJ-4.1.2-JB][SHOstock3 v1.8.5] [01/20/13][Who doesn't love candy?]

Hey Sho...please don't disturb with my question....do you have any particular reason to do not test your rom with other kernel?? i.e. Siyah 7.0.1??? I know you try to lock the best combination rom-kernel...but...

Cheers

Because if u have an issue, and you're using a different kernel, depending on the issue it may be the result of the different kernel. He may in the future decide differently, but he's said in the past he prefers only people using the kernel supplied with the ROM post issues and bugs.

Alright, I suppose I'll give it a shot. Any idea on which component to buy? I don't see a PCB for the AT&T build, but I assume international would work just the same.
Here is another store link, it's a little cheaper than the one Sho posted and I just ordered parts to repair my phone from them about a month ago. They are shipping from Asia so it takes a couple of weeks to get here but they were packaged very well (bubble envelope and a nice little hard plastic case).

This phone is definitely easy to repair, I replaced the upper mic/speaker/vibrator assembly, lower mic and USB port and the rear housing. Took all of about 30 minutes and a small Phillips screw driver and a credit card, thumb nail, guitar pick or other similar instrument is all that is needed.

Help - How to turn off voice notification of new email???

Hi,

I did something and I vaguely remember turning on some thing to notify during driving - I am now getting voice announcement (such as you have 1 new email) whenever there is a new email. I tried to find the feature to turn off the voice announcement and could not find it. Any idea where exactly I can find it???

Thanks
Brenda.

Driving mode. It has a notification toggle if you can't find the actual setting.

For anyone (such as Brenda) who is curious about the location of driving mode, it's under Settings > language & input > text to speech output > scroll to the bottom.

I posted the full path right before you posted ;)

You can also go to Settings > Display > notification panel, and drag "driving mode" from "available buttons" up to the notification panel.

0p3nsrc,

Thank you so much, I kept looking for it for more than 15 min and could not find it prior to my original posting and thank you for the additional information on adding the toggle. I don't think I could have found it.

Best,
Brenda :)

Tiernan22,

Are you suggesting that I should try replacing my battery? I was hoping there may be other ways to increase the life.

I have plain black wallpaper, using only half or less than half brightness.

Any other suggestions? Thanks for all the information and the wonderful ROM!!!

Brenda
Settings - power saving. I have all 4 checked and my battery lasts longer.

I'd like to report that MHL works perfectly on 1.8.5 as it has on all previous versions I've used.

I have a question though. If you have HBO GO or Comcast Xfinity and try to view a program on your phone with MHL, it won't play until you unplug it. Do you think there is some way, maybe in the MHL programming, to have apps avoid detecting the " second output" and thinking it's still just the phone display, while still displaying on the TV? It would be a pretty awesome feature to have.

I'm sorry, Brenda. That probably came across as snide and it certainly wasn't my intention. I tried smart battery management, governors, black backgrounds, and monitoring rogue apps. A buddy of mine had a micro usb multimeter that also measured the aggregate charge a battery could take. I found that I was only charging to about 70% of capacity on a full charge after about a year of use. When all else failed, I got a new battery and I was back to 4 hours of screen time again.

Camera Zoom

Just got SHOstock3 1.8.5 installed on mine. Great, thanks very much ! Exciting to have a clean and stable Jelly Bean.

Question:
I'm having trouble finding the camera zoom or the setting to get it back onto the volume buttons. Any hints?

Thanks

Installed shostock yesterday and its awesome. Best user interface i have seen among the 4-5 i have tried so far. Thanks for the rom..

Quick question if someone is aware; i really loved the calendar widget but once i installed Apex Launcher, i cant seem to find it in my wodgets. Does the Calendar widget work only on base touchwiz?

I'm not sure if apex displays a preview of the widget like touch wiz or just a name, but try looking for the "s planner" widget. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work for some reason because it is a Samsung app. And a great one at that!
