Here's an update:

Steps I did:
  1. Did a fresh install -- wiped Data, installed all zips in order
  2. Booted and completed set-up
  3. Did not sign-in to Google
  4. Disabled WiFi immediately to avoid MM updates
  5. Disabled Side Sense in Display settings
  6. Granted Storage permissions to MM, and removed from Battery Optimization
  7. Tapped Settings -> System -> eXistenz Oreo and it tried to get Root Permissions, failed, and I opened MM and eXistenz Oreo's request *did* get registered there! I enabled it
  8. Went back to eXistenz Oreo and this time it successfully said root permission received

Now all is well till now.

I enable Wifi, set-up Google account. MM starts showing update notifications. Also it starts crashing after ~10 or so seconds.

I install another app that needs root, and root is successfully given.

I update MM to first 128 and then 267 version. Now, it says Magisk is too old and it will consider as if Magisk is not installed.

I boot to TWRP and:
  1. Install Magisk 18.1
  2. Install Magisk SELinux Manager from the OP

Clear cache, reboot.

Now if I open MM, shows MM is up to date. Shows Magisk 18.1 is installed but update 20.x is available.

I am no longer able to give ANY new app root access. No pop-up appears when an app is in need of root. Previously added 2 apps still have root (from steps above).

And the error log is attached.

Any help?

Update magisk. Install over the 20.4 version and then se linux manager. If you want, make a full backup with twrp in case something goes wrong.

UPDATE:

I re-checked the steps and found out that at fresh install you have to use Magisk 16.3, if not, SE Linux manager 1.0.5 doesn't install (the play with vol Up and vol DOWN doesn't show up.
And when you setup your phone for the first time, grant superuser acces to Any app.

How did you update to the latest Oreo ROM? OTA or Flashtool?

I'm asking because perhaps there is something different between our devices.

I updated to latest (from 146 I think) via Flashtool. And I was not sure about wiping PERSIST and QNOVO and so I omitted them from being wiped. Also, I did not use device filter. May be my phone is not flashed correctly? Please see the screenshot of the options I chose 0.9.28.0 Flashtool.

I'm having a problem with my Magisk manager. 1. It keeps crashing when I'm connected to the internet. 2. It doesn't seem to be hiding root from certain applications like snapchat or Google Pay as it will immediately tell me the device is rooted in Google Pays Case. Disconnecting from WiFi and data will stop Magisk Manager from crashing. I really like this ROM and just cannot go back to using anything else, what do I need to do to fix this? Is their a fix? I have gotten my phone out of many a bootloop so I'm not afraid to get down into the nitty gritty. I'm not afraid of learning code either. I am determined to see this through. I love this phone so much I got a full metal case just to make sure it WON'T break :D and I'm confident with some help from this thread I can make it happen!

I had (have?) exact same issue on my dual SIM phone. I "solved" it by denying Internet access to Magisk Manager using Netguard.

I don't know why others have no issue and how anyone is able to update Magisk past 18.x without getting into bootloop.

I forgot to add that I'm using a F8331 (not dual) if that makes sense. I will try again when I have time and let you know how it goes. I will follow the instructions to THE T. If I encounter any problems I will post log files.

I tried with too many Themes with see throught the clock, but it still don´t works.
Please share an iu frameworks with see throught clock, please. I miss too much that funtion. Still working with my xperia xz, it is a good smartphone:confused:

To the ones having problems with Magisk v20, it might be the solution (I think it will work if you doing a fresh installation as well):

Flash the last Magisk using twrp: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases
Flash selinux_permissive magisk module (https://github.com/evdenis/selinux_permissive/releases) instead the old Magisk SELinux Manager
Flash Safety net patch again
...

Wait a minute and voila, ROM boots up successfully, install the last Magisk Manager and everything should be fine!

hi...im confused here' im in stock latest oreo. do i need to flash v.8 nougat first then patch with oreo patch or just flash oreo patch at first place? because im in bootloop..

Now i have to restore firmware back from twrp backup. Using stock root seems a problem with wifi..so slow. I thought using custom rom would solve it.

Wooow thank you, it works perfectly!
I was annoyed with the Magisk Manager stopping working, shutting down, impossible to set/allow superuser, now everything is working and i can enjoy the rom (issue with Magisk was the only downside of it), thank you for the fix :)

Dont update the Magisk because if turn off and after turn on only obtein boot and reboot and never turn on the ROM

Anyone have screenshots does it working foryou it is better than stock ? Speed etc ? Brightness slider under qs? Cheers
