bulgareli, you have a long way to go. If you follow each step closely, you will have unlocked custom android stick. google anything you're unsure about. when using adb there are many ways to do it. perhaps you google and find a better one.

Step0. follow the first part of this tutorial: (to install drivers on your pc, so it can talk to device) Stop at step 7 in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102600

Step 1.
you must first root your device. I used TPSarky-VonDroid-Root. google it, you will find link for dl. extract the zip on your pc (to a folder like "sparky"). connect your stick to both pc and monitor. run the batch script (In windows), TPSparky~.bat, it will root your device.

Step2. (first go download cwm for your device at: http://www.armtvtech.com/armtvtechforum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1296)
You must send CWM recovery to your device from your pc. I did this with command line and the program "adb" in folder "sparky". you type in commands like "adb reboot" and if your device is plugged in via usb, it reboots. follow tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608042

Step3. Download (to your device) finless 1.7 and 1.5 mix from link in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102654&page=3
Step4. Find app called "quick boot" in play store, install
Step5. Run quick boot, choose "boot in recovery"
Step6. Use a mouse plugged into your device to control CWM recovery, first do factory reset, then choose "advanced" and "wipe dalvick cache" then back out to main menu. Choose "install rom from sd card" >> find where you downloaded finless 1.7/1.5 mix and choose it to install. Reboot and you are done!

I have a ug007 and wifi did not work first time i installed. then after powering the device down for a couple of hours and back on, and it works.

Good luck, remember to follow every step closely. Google the steps if you have any doubts.

Bananapeal, thanks a lot. I'll give a try. Just one question, can I use Windows 8?

There is a much easier way to do all this directly from the device without having to hook the stick up to a computer or install any drivers.

1) Download the FengHuang v4 ROM from the link in the first post (I can provide an alternate link if it is still down). You can do this directly from the stick -- no PC needed. Edit - Alternate Link to download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?avoui37gr7taxsd

2) Using a file explorer (either built-in or ES File Explorer from the market), move the zip you just downloaded from the Downloads folder (/sdcard/Downloads) to the root of the internal sdcard (/sdcard) and rename it "update.zip".

3) You will now be automatically prompted to install the ROM.

4) Congrats, you are now rooted.

5) Download CWM from this link: http://androtab.info/clockworkmod/rockchip/rk3066/ . Do it directly from the device.

6) Using a file explorer, move the downloaded zip from the Downloads folder (/sdcard/Downloads) to the root of the sdcard (/sdcard) and rename it "update.zip"

7) You will now be automatically prompted to install the zip (CWM)

8) Congrats, you are now rooted with CWM recovery installed.

You can boot into recovery using terminal by entering:
su
reboot recovery

From there you can make nandroid backups so you can saftely move to different ROMs. There are CWM comptible version of Finless 1.5 and 1.7 around so that you can install these ROMs if you want without having to go through the PC-based tools (etc.). Personally, I found running FengHuang together with the 1080p Kernel from Finless 1.5 to perform a bit better.

Great! Can you provide the alternative link? The original still down.

Thanks!

I installed the FengHuang ROM and I still have wifi trouble. First boot, it worked for about 5 min. and after that wifi disappear, the icon turned "empty". Then I reboot and the second boot the wifi connected but the icon didn't turn "blue", and after about 5 min. it turns empty again.

This is normal? Maybe my device is broken?

I'm installing CWM now, and after that will try the finless 1.5.

Tks!

Edit: I followed the instructions for installing CWM and after renamed to "update.zip" it prompt to do the update, but it didn't reboot. Wait about 20 min. and reboot manually by cutting power supply. Now when I typed the command to boot into recovery in terminal, its dont enter in CWM, nothing happens. I download the correct CWM file, MX1_CWM.zip. What's going wrong?

As far as wifi, yes, mine cuts out frequently (link speed would show 0). Happened on stock and all custom roms. I would need to toggle wifi and and off to get it working again....pretty annoying.

As far as CWM, do you have the MX1 or UG007? Make sure you flash the correct one for your device and that the download wasn't corrupted. You can either try again or I can walk you through how to manually flash CWM through a few terminal commands.

True, that's very annoying. But with me goes a little bit different, I wasn't able to turn off and back on the wifi. The command just don't respond.

Anyway, I have a MX2, and downloaded this ( http://files.androtab.info/rockchip/rk3066/20130213/MX1_CWM.zip). This flashble looks to work both on MX1 and MX2, and the file don't semns to be corrupted. I tried again, but no luck. I would be glad if you can help me with these commands.

Tks.

Hmmm...not sure what is going on with Wifi....could be something the Finless rom will correct.

As far as the how to flash CWM through terminal:

1) Make sure you have ES File Explorer (free from the market).
2) In ES, click menu -> settings, go to Root Options near the bottom and check "Root Explorer" and "mount File System (as writable)".
3) Using ES, extract/unzip the contents of the CWM flashable zip
4) Using ES, copy the "flash_image" file to /system/bin
5) Long press on the "flash_image" file in /system/bin and select properties -> change permissions and make sure all 3 checkboxes for both readable and executable are selected.

6) Go back to where you unzipped the files for CWM and copy the "recovery.img" and "misc.....img" (can't remember the full name) files to the root of the sdcard (/sdcard) for simplicity in the next step.

7) Open terminal and type:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
flash_image misc /sdcard/misc......img (again, I don't remember the exact file name but pressing "tab" should autocomplete it for you).

CWM should now be flashed. You should receive confirmation after each of the flash_image commands above that the file was flashed successfully.

bricked?

Ok, here is a CWM flashable zip for Finless 1.7a w/ 1.5 Kernel (1080p):

It worked just fine for me but have to add the disclaimer that ymmv and I am not responsible ;)

I suggest doing the following:
1) Booting into CWM
2) Going to Mounts and store and wipe /system,/kernel,/boot,/cache
a) Probably would be best to wipe /data to be safe but you can try dirty flashing without this if you want (I did).
b) If you choose to dirty flash, go to Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
3) Flash ROM
4) Go to Advanced -> Fix Permissions (should do it just to be safe).

Wifi did not work for me upon initial boot. I advise rebooting at least once after initial boot.

I would also suggest going to Settings -> Display -> Sleep and select "Never". Even if it is already selected, I would try selecting it again just to be safe. My device would randomly hang after a timeout period until I did this.

Enjoy.

Hey I installed the zip via CWM from external SD and on the reboot it is stuck on the Finless boot screen... but I am still able to restart the device using ctrl+alt+delete. Seems strange to me that it is still responding to this command but I can't get anything else out of it. Computer is not picking it up..

Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated. I was hoping to not have to short the NAND...

Thanks in advance.

Oh, that's not good. Did you wipe data or dirty flash?

In any case, I was able to put my device into safe mode once to recover from a similar situation. Only, I don't know exactly how I did it. My keyboard has volume keys and it was some combination of holding those down while the stick was booting. I don't know if it was just volume up, down, or both.

I was trying to imitate the same procedure that would normally boot a phone into recovery but instead, android booted normally and said "safe mode" in the corner. From there you can make changes (I needed to correctly set permissions for the build.prop file after making changes) or you could reboot recovery to restore from a nandroid or wipe data.

Couldn't hurt to try before shorting the NAND pins.

Well, I really don't know what I'm doing wrong... I did exactly as you described, after typing the commands it's says "wrote recovery partition" and "wrote misc partition". But, it won't boot into recovery, I typed "reboot recovery" (using su before), it's turn off but nothing more happens, it don't boot into recovery.

Thanks for the response Artimis. yeah I've been trying to do exactly that.. holding every combination of volume, d-pad directions, F keys , etc lol. I was hopeful I could get a key command to get it to boot to recovery since it was responding to ctrl+alt+dlt, but I haven't been able to find any mention of what the commands might be. and my brute force methods have not been successful lol

I wiped everything first (assuming the "format" commands in CWM recovery are the same as wipe. I use TWRP on my phone).

Aside from keyboard commands to get to recovery, are there any other options? like maybe placing any files/scripts on the external SD?

The only thing I can think of is maybe there is something wrong with the MX1 CWM file you downloaded. You can try downloading and flashing the file for the UG007. Supposidely they are the exact same devices.

Unfortunately, I do not know of anything else other than shorting the NAND pins while booting up in order to put into recovery mode. Also, have you try unplugging and plugging the device back in instead of using CTRL+ALT+DEL?

Well, it's a mystery lol... Tried flashing the CWM for UG007 and nothing changed. Tried renaming to "update.zip" and through terminal, it still not getting into recovery. I'm starting to think my device is broken... :(

Cyanogenmod on iMito

I have been running finless on my iMito and it is great. I've seen there is a CyanogenMod ROM for a different rockchip stick. Does anyone know how or where I can get a CM10 ROM to install on the iMito?

well it was way easier than i thought.. :)
everything you need is inside the finless rom folder which you extracted from the zip file you downloaded from the freaktab..just open the read me file and fallow the instructions.. but if you have mx2 like me you can skip the putting the device into "flash mode" parts because all you need to do is stick a paperclip into the hole near hdmi and connect the device to your pc while holding it down..if you need more than that just ask..

    Hello there! It's me again.

I've noticed a very distinct lack of threads that start with [ROM] in this here section, and I hope to help change that. I recently purchased a UG007 Android-on-a-stick, which I have discovered has a lot of hardware similarities between other devices, thanks particularly to wide prevalence of the RK3600 chipset.

My goal here is twofold. One is to provide a consolidated place for others interested in developing for these devices to find resources. The other is to explore the depth of the similarities between devices, discuss various flashing methods and tools, and overall get in touch with other people who may own these things who have other knowledge and skills that I may not possess.

First off, here are a few downloads for various ROMS I've found across the web. I did not make any of these - I'm just linking to the sources I found.

STOCK UG007 Firmware - STOCK 12/01/2012 ROM, completely unmodified. Good to see the differences between the pre-rooted and OG versions. Original source unknown, my apologies.

FengHuang pre-rooted for UG007 - Pre-rooted, "market fix", "xbmc supported", fixes some wifi negotiation issues. Jellybean 4.1.1. Verified works. Install by placing in root of SD card and inserting into device.

Finless Bob's 1.5 for iMito mx1/2 - VERIFIED WORKING on UG007 as well. Pre-rooted, debloated, higher LCD density, other tweaks. See original thread for full details. Install instructions in OP as well.

And that's all I have for now. I'll do some more digging in a while, see if I can't find more stuff. I found a thread elsewhere that has resources for building kernels for RK3066 - I'll try to post that as well. If you know of more ROMS, please, post them here and I'll add to the OP.

Is there anyone still paying attention to this thread? Anyone willing to take the software and modify it?

Well, I've asked for the 808s quad-core, 5.1 passthrough enabled bigger brother for Christmas this year. If I get that, you may see me breaking down and doing some ROM work for both. I've just been busy with my miui port for the one right now.

Finless 1.7 is up now. Comes in two flavors:
    http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?3931-NEW-iMito-MX1-2-Finless-ROM-1-7-(beta-is-over)

    Edit:
Some other things people may find useful (maybe it can be added to the OP):
    1) CWM recovery for the UG007:
    http://androtab.info/clockworkmod/rockchip/rk3066/

It is ridiculously easy to install (just place the update.zip at the root of the internal SD card and you will be prompted automatically).

    2) I installed Finless 1.7a last night using the 1080p option and there is a significant difference. It appears to be true 1080p. However, I was not able to get wifi working unless I used the kernel from 1.5. Just a note to others that might run into issues.

    3) I created a CWM flashable zip that will install Finless 1.7a 1080p + 1.5 1080 kernel straight through recovery so you don't need to hookup the device to a computer, install drivers, put into flashable mode, etc. I'd be happy to post it for anyone here to use but I am going to reach out to Finless Bob first and make sure he is ok with that.....don't want to step on anyone's toes. If not, I can post a tutorial on how to create the flashable zip. It's pretty easy and can be done straight through the device with ES File Explorer.
    1
There are earlier releases of finless/Bob's roms, plus factory roms all for the MX 1/2 so for both devices. Note finless roms all start At v1.4
