Can anyone tell me if the beats audio version is rootable?

I just got it, but it came already preloaded with 4.4.2 so my 32gb microSD card is useless:mad:

If I can't root it, is it at least possible to force update to 4.4.3? I tried clearing the data on the google services framework, but all that got me was the inability to connect to the play store.

Here's my setup:

Model Number:
HP Slate 7 Beats Special Edition Model 4501
Android Version:
4.4.2
Kernel Version:
3.4.57-g0178a33
[email protected] #1
Build Number:
KOT49H.18396_417.2569

Any help is always appreciated. Thank You!

Should work on your Tablet... It will either Root your device... Or it just won't root.. see other posts where they just didn't achieve root. So basically just give it a go. You don't need to use sd card to root.

Well, I followed every step to the letter and RootGenius stops at 77%, the tablet disconnects and goes through a rebooting cycle about 3 times, then I get the always-annoying "Such a tough phone, Root...failed".

All I want to do is root the tablet so I can use the app to allow writing to external storage. I can't write anything to my MicroSD card. What could I be doing wrong?

*UPDATE*
I got it to work! Unfortunately, It was not with your excellent tutorial. If anyone has the Beats Audio Edition and they want to root, Towelroot works like a charm!

Thanks again. You've been very helpful.

Is your Tablet on KitKat 4.4.2? Is you Tablet the Business Version (might have more security)? I'm in the United States (model number 4400us)
Please Note: that as of the date of this post.. there is NOT a custom Recovery for this Device. Do Not use any Recovery from other Devices like the Tegra Note 7 (you will brick your device). So that means don't use apps like Flashify etc.

We only have Root at this time using the method in opening post.
I have twrp 2.7.1.0 running just fine on my 4400us tablet. However now that the hp recovery is gone (when I boot into recovery and select recovery kernel, twrp pops up) there is no way for me to reinstall the stock firmware unless someone builds one that can be flashed in twrp. I am running kitkat and I keep getting a prompt for a system update but when I select it and the tablet reboots, it just goes into twrp and then reboots and boot loops. I have to go back into twrp and factory restore to get it to boot again.

Be careful... I too installed TWRP on a Slate 7 Extreme and all was well until I wiped to restore a backup and now it's a paper weight (bricked).

I even mailed it to a well respected XDA Dev. and he was unable to unbrick.

I just open my tab and it seem the root is gone. Poof! Just like that. Verified with root checker that its not rooted. Has this happened before? Or do i have to up to 4.4.2 for stable root?

This did not work for my Slate 7 Beats Audio Special Edition. Neither did Towelroot.

I did get an OTA update bringing it up to Build number KOT49H.18396_417.2568

The model number on the back is 4501xx

new root method

I found another method for root-download this chineese program and run it. Its in chineese but its straight forward , its gona ask you to install a rooting program. What i did is always click the green box wich supposably means ok. After it installs, you open the root program and on top of the menu theres gona be a big circle that says root in english and below it your device model. You click the circle and wait, than there should be some output from the program(a checkmark or something), wich means you have rooted your slate. After this you can uninstall the root program and use the first one because it appears to be a root manager. Its gona ask you for root privelages wich is a green box, so always click that and also the program works as a package installer and i just click the green button on the bottom to install or uninstall something. Pretty straight forward-first it asks you to install a program, you click a green button and from then on,you only have to click the green button to confirm, install, uninstall or grant privelages. Its weird one click root but pretty simple if you have some common sense.Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information.. might help folks that otherwise can't root with the method I posted.

What model number is your Slate Tablet?
