To anyone who has unlocked their bootloader on this phone, is the camera fully affected throughout the phone? Would it work if you use a third party app (like Open Camera or Footej Camera for example) or do they not work either?

Some apps work, some doesn't.
The ones that work can't access full resolution I think I read.
You can record but only in 1080p but some apps can record in 4k.

So either the camera works but with limited res or it doesn't but it can record.

It's funny.

Ah okay, that's better news than I expected actually!
I've been on the fence as to whether I unlock or not for a while, but if I can find several different camera apps that work for different things, I don't really mind switching between them if it ends up being necessary, I sort of do that anyway.

(Not that I can do any unlocking right now though, as I'm on holiday and I don't have access to a computer. :crying:)

Rooting devices have become quite a pain in the ass. At this point, Android is becoming full iOS with all the restrictions and punishments companies have been putting up as of late.

Hey hey.

Unlock bootloader by choosing Sony XZ, flash this and you shall have root with su!

Credits goes to @YasuHamed for compiling the kernel with su.

This is for stock fw 45.0.A.1.229.
Hi, thanks for this thread.

The link to the file(s) to be flashed point towards 5 files, which do we flash for root? Only the "xzp_su_45.0.A.1.229.img" file? I asume this is the modified kernel with SU. And can we use flashtool to flash this in fastboot mode or just normal fastboot commands or do we need to use the Newflasher tool?

Thanks again and sorry for the Noob questions, I am new to XZ premium.

Can i use this when i 'm on Build 45.0.A.7.90? Or do i have to patch the kernel by myself? Any help is appreciated!

Can you still back up the DRM keys for 7.0?
No you can't back up DRM keys for Nougat. Only old versions of MM.

Is they no way of rooting without unlocking the bootloader or will they ever be away otherwise I'll have to change phones I hate not having root

Thanks
There's no way to root without unlocking and it will probably not be possible in a long while if ever.

Hi someone mentioned that google camera works with unlocked bootloader just in 8MP, my question is if those 8MP are in excellent quality photos or something changes (besides the size) Thanks

Could I please ask if the bootloader for both G8141 (single sim EU version) and G8142 (dual sim Asian version) can be unlocked?
Probably yes and probably not, it goes on a phone by phone status. Only way of knowing Is checking the following.

Open dialer and dial *#*#SERVICE#*#* go to service info then go to configuration. It will tell u there if it's allowed.

Thank you.

Looks like I'll have to get something else...I was planning to get the Hongkong version....

Don't want to spend big bucks and get something with a locked bootloader, that's a deal breaker...

Maybe an original Google Pixel or an Oneplus 5 will be a better option...

Does unlocking bootloader remove Sony enhancements such as X reality & cause a degradation to image quality and image noise? If not what are the negative impacts of unlocking bootloader? There must be something.
