Jus wanted to mention, because I looked all over for awhile before I found a solution...

I pushed over 5.1.2 really easily over the comp then rooted with kingroot pretty easily, funny how it took a few times but finally worked...then I used the supertool by rootjunky to install the Google Apps but then I couldn't login... Took awhile, changed permissions, never worked... Finally O read jus click on the menu button (the 3 dots on the sign in page for the Google play Store) then used the log in through my browser option, and it worked!

Didn't find that last step on xda and just wanted to mention it for anyone else...

Sorry mate, i didn't fully understand this part, care to elaborate?
Sorry my fat fingers typed the wrong letter! Lol....it was supposed to say that "I" instead of "o"...

I read online that when it says to login to your Google account, push the 3 dots button at the top right of the screen and it will allow you to do a browser sign on instead of signing in through the app... You then are able to sign in and not have a communication with servers issue

I think you should reinstall the firmware
Download
update-kindle-32.5.2.2_user_522054520.bin or newer
place the bin file in the same location as the command prompt has listed when using adb commands
reboot tablet to recovery mode>select apply update from ADB
check device manager tablet should be listed as sideload or adb composite interface
if not drivers are not correct
from command prompt
Code:
adb sideload update-kindle-32.5.2.2_user_522054520.bin
install may take 10mins or so,
it should reboot to recovery options again
wipe cache, wait for it to finish,
select reboot, may take a few minutes to boot

What version will this give? 5.2.2? or 5.02?

New update - 5.3.3.0

:) Hey folks, I'm James from Trinidad & Tobago, and this is the first time I'm posting on this thread. (or on any thread on XDA)
I purchased my Kindle fire HD 8 (5th Gen) in July 2016 while I was in London, not long before they released the 6th Gen. It was not until November/December, I decided that I wanted to have it rooted and to get rid of the annoying 'Fire Launcher'. I have seen problems upon problems to achieve this.
I've successfully installed Google Play, YouTube and many other apps that you would normally get with a normal Android device.
Earlier this year, I stumbled upon the 'Launcher Hijack' hack, and quite honestly, I personally don't like it. I would prefer something a lot more solid, and doesn't flash the firelauncer before I get back to nova launcher.

Today, I saw a new update being rolled out... Hopefully, it'll give us the chance to root and get rid of the pesky Firelauncher... I have picked up a liking for the new Pixel launcher, and Nova can be tweaked to look like the pixel launcher too, so, that'll be a plus for me.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and have a great day!

I too have been a fly on the wall on this thread to see if anyone has successfully rooted the device running on Fire OS 5.3.2.1. My Fire HD 8 installed 5.3.3.0 yesterday  after a manual reboot so I'm being optimistic that this update might have opened an opportunity to root this thing.

On 5.1.3, trying to downgrade to 5.1.2

I have an Amazon Fire HD 8 (5th Generation), FireOS 5.1.3.

I try to adb sideload different firmware, but it gets to 50-100% and it says cannot verify signature. Tried the downgrade tool on root junky, but did not work. Would restart the Fire to a blank screen recovery or bootloader. Have to do manually with adb sideload to get anywhere.

Any ideas? Sorry if this has been covered. I tried going through as many pages as possible in this thread.

Thank you

I've remain in 5.3.2.1 firmware and there is no root via Kingroot. How long should I wait for that?!
And if I upgrade to 5.3.3, Is there any root or should I remain on current firmware for sooner root access??

You can actually root an android device by flashing the SuperSU zip on twrp. Since you don't need to be rooted to install twrp, I'm really wondering if this method could work cause I really need to root my fire HD 8 (5th gen). Can anyone help with this ?

Unfortunately you need to have an unlocked bootloader to install twrp which can't be done on the fire hd 8 5th gen....

I skim forum but still don't realize is there way to root Fire HD 8 (5th Gen) with 5.3.1 firmware?
Got my certified refurbished tablet with 5.3.2 and downgraded to 5.3.1.
Then tried Kingroot from AmazonFire5thGenSuperTool and Kingroot PC, both times it failed.
