I've come across this device and figure it'd make a very nice information display. But after searching this forum and reading tons of posts I am uncertain whether or not it's possible to root this device, root this OS version, or (if needed in order to root) downgrade this OS version. Most success stories here appear to refer to the Fire HD 7 5th gen, I think.
I've disabled wifi on the device so that it can't install any more system updates. Has anyone tried KingRoot with this one? Their support list doesn't mention Amazon devices. I suppose I could just try it and hope nothing gets bricked. I'm happy to try other methods if they'll work.

It seems Kingroot (NewKingrootV4.80_C135_B242_office_release_2016_02_ 03_105203.apk)
is working, but you may need to run it a few times before it will root

Looks like the HD 8/10 Does not have a nice Fastboot screen, like the Fire 7 in
Seems it's just a black screen.
There should be a few different ways to get to Fastboot mode
From Power off: Hold Volume Down and power on.
From Power Off: Hold Volume UP and power on, it should boot to Recovery
From Recovery: select Boot Bootloader, bootloader has Fastboot mode enabled
From Rom; Use ADB command
adb reboot-bootloader
or
adb reboot recovery
I don't think the modified boot.img is going to work as it is now
Creating a bootable custom recovery may be the best option for the HD 8/10

Using the same method of creating a Boot.img that makes the /system rw for the 2015 7 in Fire.
@csolanol and @diegocr have created a batch file, with a modified boot.img for the HD 8/10.
There is some risk that this method will not work, Amazon may have done something different in the 8 and 10 models.
If the boot.img does not work, the tester may have to re install the firmware via adb sideload, or this could brick the device, although that is unlikely.
just post in this thread, if you are willing to test, the batch file is already uploaded to dropbox.3
I can confirm that Supersu me pro (i have it bought in Google Play Store) replaces the root privileges of kingroot to supersu without problems. After that I could install the FlashFire-v0.27.apk.32Try k4y0z method, only boot, don't flash lk image

On my HD8 is running the OS Amazon firmware 5.1.1.
