If you don't know how to check your Build Number you better don't root your phone.

You are welcome mate,I am glad that you got that resolved :D
Meanwhile, you can upgrade to Lollipop 3.24.40.78 and gain root access following this guide.
Cheers!!:)
what do you recommend bro? update via adb sideload? btw i tried OTA it didn't work. it booted into usb mode. but i fixed it. now.. can i skip firmware and sideload to .78? my build is 2.21.40.44

Did you unroot phone before going for OTA ?
Anyway, you need to upgrade first to the Bridge Updates (2.22.40.53 / 2.22.40.54 ).
Then you have got 2 options to upgrade to Lollipop

( 1 ) 2.22.40.53 > 3.23.40.60 > 3.24.40.78

OR

( 2 ) 2.22.40.54 > 3.24.40.78

Upgrade manually by putting the Update Zip in the Internal storage or ADB sideload.
Personally,I prefer Internal storage method coz my experience with ADB Sideload hasn't been pleasant :p

Don't forget to wipe cache partition via Recovery Before and After the System Upgrade.
Good luck!!

heloo thanks but it says devices rooted...but i cannot update the su binary pls help
note : by rooting you may lose your warranty
yeah i had the same problem, and the root checker showed root access not properly installed.
first of all , i am not a tech guy :)
then i found out a solution.installing super su through TWRP recovery mode
for that we need some softwares and one PC
Requirements
1. TWRP installer -i cant post outside links(find it from somewhere here or from outside)
unzip and wait...
2. super su intaller zip file--i cant post outside links(find it from somewhere here or from outside)

How to install
1. connect your phone to pc and copy the super SU file to memory card or phone memory (if you dont have memory card)
2.open the twrp installer folder, click intall .exe file ,a cmd window will open
3. click any button, wait for the process to complete.so twrp recovery mode will be installed on your phone.
4.then shut down your phone (normally)
5.switch on your phone through recovery mode(press volume up+ powerbutton a little more time, untill recovery screen comes)
6.select recovery using volume up/down button .for selecting use power button
7.now you can see the the twrp recovery mode(install, reboot etc)
8.click install.find the file we already put in the memory card(super su zip file)
9. no other changes to be made, just swipe to install
10.after installing phone will reboot showing updating apps
11.now you can install super su from play store if not installed already from play store
12.now you are rooted, check with root checker.

this is the method i used for my zenfone 5
note; it may not work for all,but just try

Yes just run the batch file "root-zenfone5-tw" in place of "root-zenfone5-ww",in step 6.
Backup all your data before proceeding.

Thank you, success to root my Asus Zenfone 5.

Just as additional for those encounter problem installing Intel Android driver caused by OS version is 64bit,
you might wanna go to intel site and download the most update driver.

Thank you OP.
