My ZenFone just arrived. Out of the box I setup all needed to access the menu Settings to enable developer mode. BUT, software update alert me that there is an update, and I applied it.
Then, I try the steps provided. It doesn't work.
at steps where we should run adb devices, there is no list of device. Already tried restarting, and uplug-replug cable. Nothing.
Current version is ASUS_T00F_WW_user_2.20.40.13_20141105_1055 release-keys 044000307_201407220024
Is this because of the updates or anything else? Please advice.
Thanks,
well, just for adb devices showing up there are just a few requirements ,you must be going wrong in one of them.
1.proper USB drivers,of Intel,your device,
basically if your phone is already getting recognized in MTP mode or so,it means you already got them working
2. you have to enable developer options by tapping build number in software information under settings and enable USB debugging ,
once done, while connecting to pc,you would get an authorisation prompt on phone when you use adb, allow always and you must he good to go.
there can be no other issues .maybe just driver update needed a reboot..try restarting your phone and or PC.
well after doing the open command window and the adb devices.. the cmd not showing any device.
whats that suppose to mean? what are the problem?
Thanks in advance.

Still no solution for my
case huh?

Oh well, I guess I have to wait a little longer ... and be patient
just from what I see and my experience , any change you/any action of yours makes to any system partitions other than /data and /cache remain unchanged after a factory reset also.
meaning if something is corrupted it doesn't get fixed automatically on factory reset.
for example, I made ES file explorer as a system app and move it to system/app.
and after factory reset I noticed ES file explorer was not removed.
this implies if any of you played with tweaks / some error occurred initially during root process,
those files remain inside the folder.
factory reset doesn't help wither from recovery or settings because it just erases /data and cache.
only work around for this is ,
look at your current firmware version, and download the same or an updated firmware (if u wanna update ) from Asus site.
be careful about WW TW SKU stuffs..you have to get same version.
once downloaded place it in internal memory or SD card .
you will get an option for update available..just proceed with it and this update fixes system files and makes them clean..
then retry rooting.
I'm not 100% sure this could help you, but it does a clean job, I messed with xposed framework and kept having auto reboot issues even after factory reset randomly.
later I found out that the corrupted files were not removed and hence causing issues.
also a possible reason for root failure could be using the latest update ,
someone posted on Asus forums that the latest (late December update ) .40 had a new bootloader and he could not find raw image for it to make proper root and OTA support.
and recomended people to root from .13 version.
but I didn't find any issue rooting on .40
worked like a charm.
