I'm in trouble. After steps one and two.

"Use provided odin and In odin AP slot load the COMBINATION_FA70_G950USQU7ASK1.tar.md5 in CSC slot load G950U_CACHE_FORCE_REBOOT_V7.tar.md5 and flash when done phone will reboot to recovery."

start flash to odin display pass, but my phone not reboot to recovery mode.
I try to use the volume down and power button to reboot and the screen doesn't show the logo, just a blinking white line, what should I do?

Thats not good. If phone won’t reboot to download or recovery then its bricked and only edl will fix it

I got a used S8 recently and stupid me flashed the latest Pie stock firmware with Bootloader V8 before finding this thread.

When I try to do the steps I get "sw rev check fail: [abl] Fused 8 > Binary 7". Any way to get around this?

This is amazing what u did guys,tho i need to request root files for G950W the canadian model.
you have successfully made a safestraps file for android pie which i think could be working for this two model (canadian and usa) G950w/u. but the v7 bootloder files of my G950w i did a researcg on this website anf i found none. in my case it would be
COMBINATION_FA70_G950WVLS7CTC1tar.7z which then i could proceed with rooting mine. please help me out cuz G950 can not get the booloader unlocked as well and i am sure if u managed to make Root for G950U the G950W is pretty close it is just few modification.

Thank for your reply bro,so u mean I can proceed with this process using SM G950U files on my SM G950W? I Really need to root my phone but wasn't so sure I could use the files provided with this process. I couldn't risk running into a problem where I got few options to get back.lol

On the back of my S8, it says SM--G950U, yet About Phone tells me it's SM-G950W. Baseband version is G950WVLU8CTF3. Android version 9. So the bootloader version is V8 I think.
"You can be on any version bootloader. This will update you to V7 bootloader". Does that mean that this method will work in my case?

Can anyone please help to confirm if I get it right? Thanks a lot @jrkruse and @elliwigy.

well bro, i managed to root my Canadian model successfully using this files listed above i the process of rooting using this meyhod of SM-G950U on my SM-G950W i had before. Now in my settings it's an SM-G950U. Tho in my case i had a bootloader V7,in your case u have updated your phone with new security patch that samsung released. so i don't think u can proceed with rooting your phone. maybe u can wait for another hack from the developer who made this possible. I checked there was a process to upgrade to bootloader V7 from lower version in the section to add android pie backsplash after rooting. But i can not confirm this process can downgrade your bootloader V8 to V7. u can wait for further assist from the developer. Hope my reply gave u a clear view of what u were asking.

Also has anyone had success using driveDroid.
I rooted mine for 5 seconds and now it would be a big deal if i do it again just to find out. Ty

Good evening, I rooted my s8 using this method. It seems everything works except mobile data. When the phone first powers on it says carrier ATT but I'm on straight talk (vzw). Calls and txt work fine. Any ideas?

Ok. I got my mobile data to work. Had to use an app to add my apn. Now that I have root, is there a way to select a certain band? Thank you for all that you guys do.

If anyone is thinking on updating phones now is the time. The method of unlocking bootloaders on US variants works one s10/s20 and n10/n20 phones. Read the whole article too get info and yes it works I have a bootloader unlocked sm-g975u s10+ with twrp and magisk installed.
