Now I've had a lot of phones as someone who makes a living in the digital world (I've got more flip phones than Jitterbug), and out of all the phones I've owned(myself)/modified/repaired/ or even just looked at for somebody... the S8+ has got to be my all time favorite. Why? Because of it's steel ball durability and the sheer power this thing has.

By the time the phone was released I had already managed to obliterate the first one with a brake rotor (pro tip - use a headlamp when working on cars instead of laying the phone on the ground with the flashlight on). I still remember the look on the guys face when I brought it in and asked them to replace the screen. "You want to replace the screen on a phone that doesn't even come out for two more weeks?" And if everyone remembers this was the first bezel-less-glass-front-and-ass phone to come out. The looks from everyone in the store were priceless. Not only did this idiot manage to get a new phone before its release; he also chose not to pay the $12 insurance and had to pay $600 because the 2 week grace period had run out literally 2 days before. I got my replacement and things went on normally from there.

Fast forward some amount of time later and the phone holds up well but gets boring on the stock rom. I eventually finish off the lease and Sprint unlocks the phone OTA. I now own a "factory" unlocked US variant of the S8+ (SM-G955U) which didn't even make sense to most at the time because I had gotten the phone so early my lease was up early.

Then came the modifying... Now just like the Note 3, the S8+ is a truly unbrickable phone. Yes you can brick it very easily, but there is always a way to fix it regardless the damage you do to it. Using QFIL and cutting out the middleman, you can always bring ole' Bessie back to life. In my time of owning this phone I've bricked it probably everyway imaginable. Trying to flash to the boot partition, leaving it in the sun, flashing an Exynos variant file, and even trying to boot a Windows Mobile image onto the phone. Physically I know every pieces of the phone by heart. I've taken it apart an illogiocal amount of times; spent 6 hours removing the glass back for the first time (no iOpener). I've even modified a S9+ frame to take the S8+ motherboard. To this day the phone still has some of the smaller parts from an S9+ in it. Once again here I am unbricking it from kernel panic (die+0x28c/0x2d0) because I was trying to use the XTouchWiz for Oreo instead of Nougat.:D

Not to mention when this phone is rooted it's got crackhead superpowers... so that's my story. Figured I'd share it.

Thank you jrkruse for your ongoing development on this platform. Thank you elliwigy and anybody else who has contributed. It's been fun and hairpullingly frustrating but there's no better feeling than playing with the monster you've successfully created. Good work and godspeed.

Please help.
I put phone into stock recovery, chose to boot into boot loader
Flashed BL_ENG_BOOTLOADERS_SAFESTRAP_G955U_V7.tar.md5 in BL slot and it passed and phone shut down.
It wont turn on anymore.
black screen, no power.
Do i throw it away now ?
I have S8 plus verizon SM-G955U stock with 9.0. I just wanted to root the phone but there are too many missleading pages telling that there is no root, then telling there is downgrade root etc all confusing.

Phone does not respond to any key combinations at all.
Removing the battery did not help.
Connecting to USB makes no connection sound.
Phone does not vibrate when i push power button no matter how long.

What now ?

I am confused. Currently running Partcyborg (Rooted, with Safestrap). How do I get from where I am to your ROM, +PIE?

Just go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s8+/development/rom-t3771206 and download files under downloads and follow new install instructions. If you don’t have safestrap installed you need to install it before starting the pie process your already rooted so you would just need to flash safestrap if your not currently using it. If you already using safestrap just follow above instructions

So I’ll I can figure is somehow the ota updates to v8 have corrupted something. The stuff you flashed are just the stock bootloaders directly from stock firmware the stuff the other guy flashed is untouched combo firmware that comes from Samsung so Im thinking about pulling the files and ending these methods . Just too know more did you select nand erase or any other settings in odin?

I am completely lost now. Successfully completed the upgrade to V8 bootloader. Ended up in Pie unrooted, no safestrap (after what i presume was an automatic OTA). How do I get to safestrap from here??
Phone is now hung at the Galaxy S8 start screen. Does not respond to anything.
Succeeded in flashing back to stock.Lreaving it there for today...

Decided to stay on stock PIE for now. Unrooted Safestrap does very little by itself....

Too get to safestrap you have too flash the BL_Safestrap file in odin. You can’t simply reboot phone and enter safestrap like you can on rooted nougat

This method is brought to you entirely by @elliwigy He is the reason for this exploit and method.
With that being said, Extreme Syndicate Root is now available!

You can be on any version bootloader. This will update you to V7 bootloader
This method will work if you are on Android 9 Pie but will put you on Android 7 nougat. There is no root for Android 9 Pie
You will not be able to use normal magisk
You will not be able to flash custom rom like Lineage or any other AOSP roms
You cannot flash custom boot images or recovery images such as TWRP
Odin does not work on some later computers with USB 3.1 chip controllers the only work around is using a USB 2.0 mini hub
It is your responsibility to make sure you can use adb properly
Root may break things such as safetynet so deal with it

Disclaimer:

The Extreme Syndicate team and it's affiliates are not responsible for your actions or your device if any issues are to arise. You flash this and utilize these files at your own risk. You have been warned!

The Adventure!:

This is a modified version of @elliwigy Extreme Syndicate Root for S9/N9 modified to work on the SM_G950U/U1 S8

Also, donations/money is not expected or required but if you feel obliged to share what you can then that would be greatly appreciated! Donations keep me on the grind and sometimes can even help me in acquiring other devices to work on. I had issues with Paypal a while back (SamPWND days) and do not have a Paypal account. I do however have a Venmo and Transferwise accounts that work in most situations.

Venmo - http://www.venmo.com/Thomas-Huntington-10

Transferwise - PM @elliwigy for info to donate using Transferwise.

This method is different from the S8 method because original samfail method still works on s8+ so this really is not the Extreme Syndicate Root Method as provided by @elliwigy but to keep the 8 series uniform I will just call it this method

Directions For SM-G950U/U1/W S8 Can Be Found Here
Directions For SM-N950U/U1/W Note 8 Can Be Found Here

Downloads
SM_G955U_RESCUE_ROM_V7.rar
BL_G955U_NOUGAT_V8.tar.7z

Instructions
If you didnt upgrade to V8 bootloaders using odin. I recommend flashing full stock firmware with V8 bootloaders even if you are already on V8 bootloader via OTA update. I feel that maybe something in the OTA from V7 bootloaders to V8 may have corrupted a bootloader file and some people have experienced bricks with trying to update to V8 bootloaders from V7 using the below method so I recommend flashing full stock V8 firmware in Odin before trying this method and just understand there has been a risk of bricking device. Full stock can be found on Sammobile or updato or any other service you can find it. You will have to reroot of course. If you Updated to V8 bootloaders using odin method already then no need to do so again
1. Extract SM_G955U_RESCUE_ROM_V7.rar
2. Reboot phone to stock recovery and wipe data then from stock recovery reboot to bootloader.
3. In odin flash the BL_G955U_NOUGAT_V8.tar.md5 in BL slot and when finished force the phone to reboot too download mode
4. In download mode flash the AP_SAFESTRAP_RESCUE_SYSTEM_IMAGE.tar.md5 in AP slot when finished phone will reboot and odin will say failed. Phone will reboot to screen that says update failed or software failed this is fine your phone is still in download mode. If phone reboots to upload mode just force reboot too bootloader
5. In download mode flash the BL_G955U_NOUGAT_V8.tar.md5 in BL slot in odin and let phone reboot
6. You will now have a barebones bare minimum rooted nougat rom with safestrap installed. Its only purpose is to give you safestrap so you can continue below and follow directions to install latest version pie rom
