Oh ? I must be confused again  Would I use the boot.img from this thread we are in now ? the October Patch ? Even though it is
a November update ? and do you know if TWRP will instal also ?

So I would just allow them to push the update to my phone, then start the root process again with your boot.img via Odin. ?

Thank you for your help.

.
What is the advantage of updating if it's only security patches?
Aren't they bypassed by root?

I have a bit of a problem now ... I did what you said, ( I think ) and now I have a hard/soft brick. It is stuck in a bootloop from the start screen
where it warns you abou the unlocked bootloader, and then to the Samsung screen that warns you that you are not running official Samsung
software. Then it just loops back forever. Normally not a big deal, because I can get into the stock recovery or into twrp or into download mode.
.... BUT ....

Right now I can NOT get into ANY of those modes. Not even the download/fastboot screen, so I have no way to use Odin either.
I have never seen this befor. PLEASE if you or anyone has any thoughts as to what I can try then let me know.... here is exactly what I did from the start.

Click only if you want to read it all. I have fixed my issues allready.

1) Allowed Samsung to push the Nov. update ASK2 to my phone.
2) Reboot and setup phone.
All working fine.... so Atempt Root next....
3) Took the boot.img file from this post and ran through 7zip to make boot.tar
4) Went into download mode and flashed boot.tar in AP slot
...Odin flash went perfect so I reboot phone to system
5) Install Magisk.apk - Reboot again - Got all green so Root went fine.
...Now I have a Rooted phone running Stock Nov. Security with no problems
so next I will attempt to flash TWRP. I followed the posted instructions from physwizz thread ...

To install TWRP
1. Download the custom recovery from here
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1899786940962574261
2. On the PC rename the unpatched recovery as recovery.img
3. Use 7zip to make it into recovery.tar
4. Use 7zip to add your patched boot.img to recovery.tar
5. Download vbmeta.tar from here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...&postcount=237) and extract vbmeta.img
6. Use 7zip to add vbmeta.img to recovery.tar
7. Install recovery.tar to ap slot using Odin.

Reboot phone and now I am in this crazy boot loop I can not seem to get out of :( Please help if you can, I will try anything. I can not
even turn the phone OFF now ... just loops forever untill battery dead.

thanks for reading this far :)

My wife is going to yell at me again for breaking our phone .... well that is the chance we take when doing these mods I guess.

.

When phone reboots press vol+ vol- and connect data cable instantly (Make sure data cable is connected to pc\laptop Not to charger).

Just to clearify if anyone else has issues or questions. This is how I achieved Root and it worked 100%.
*Note - Be sure you are on the U3 firmware (BL and Modem) befor you start.

  1. Download boot.img
  2. Rename file with 7Zip to boot.tar
  3. Start phone in Download Mode.
  4. Run Odin v3.13.3
  5. Plug phone into PC
  6. Flash boot.tar in the AP slot.
  7. Reboot to Recovery Mode
  8. Perform Factory Reset
  9. Reboot to System
  10. Download and install Magisk.apk
You can now move onto installing TWRP but be sure to follow these instructions if you are on U3 or U4.

Thanks to all that helped me with my previous troubles :silly:

Well first off this is not the right place to ask your question. This thread is only for questions relating to the root process of the A20 phone. But I will answer you anyways since you are new.

If your phone is FRP Locked then you can not do much of anything until you get it unlocked, and the info in this thread you are in now will not help you at all. So to answer your question, NO this will not help you. You should post your question in it's own thread in this section Samsung Galaxy A20 Questions & Answers ... Just click HERE and ask about getting your phone unlocked. Or try google .... here is another great place to start ... just --->CLICK ME<---

Good luck to you ....

Hi Thibor69, Have you tried that iSkysoft toolbox on an FRP locked phone? Download looks safe but I'm guessing the setup will download more stuff. Safe? Apologies for the off topic. Reply by PM if you'd like. BTW that 1 Megabyte setup installs about 128 Megabytes and won't install it where you choose - then it seems they want $15 to $80 to use it depending on what you are trying to do.

I'm still good to go with the TWRP from afaneh92 in the other A20 recovery project thread by physwizz. Backup AND restore working fine. I don't do Samsung updates once I've got a phone working with root and TWRP. TWRP can save you from about anything and I do my own security on a phone by being diligent in how and where it's used and having my own security protocols in place.
