sorry for yet another off topic question
my g6 always have all cores active shown in cpu-z which I'm not sure if it's normal or not, as I've used other phones that disables cores when there is no load

is that normal?

Just a quick status update. @jayp1177 has dumped the phone and I am downloading the files now. As soon as I am sure I have everything I need, I will open a thread with some very detailed instructions.

If you have read the thread on how to root the H872 and thought that was hard -- you haven't seen anything yet ;)

As long as you follow the instructions TO THE LETTER, you shouldn't have a problem though.

Lastly, for now, this will just be for the:
  • H871
  • H873
  • US997 (US Cellular)
  • US997 (if you don't want to void your warranty and get your own unlock.bin, or if you bought it used and CAN'T get an unlock.bin)
  • LS993
  • AS993
  • VS998

I will then open a thread for volunteers for the:
  • H870
  • H870DS
  • G600*

EDIT: Also, if you are not currently ARB1, you will be ARB1.....

Finally!

Let's get it on guys! :p
Just wanted to make this clear. I have my device, with the exploitable Download Mode as specified. Currently ARB 1, but I already have the vulnerable download mode installed. My device is ready to root, and is recognized by LG UP as the vulnerable download version. While I am not very technical, I have a basic understanding of basic security behind an LG device. I was wondering how this exploit is actually performed, and how you were able to bypass the various ROM signature checks. Anyways, any clarification on the next step much appreciated, and I would love to the the first tester. Cheers! Drew.

That is awesome that you are ready to test.

I will send you a PM with some contact info. I want to run through this with one person before I make it public just to make sure we don't end up with a bunch of bricks.

Writing up procedures when I don't own a device to test on isn't easy.

I wish I had known that this development was going. Then I would have bought LG G6. I guess I'll also get G6 with quad DAC if the root will be a success.

Ahh. I bought LG Q7+ without knowing it cannot be rooted. It seems obtaining root is getting harder nowadays.

Quad DAC thing is hardware related.
The H870DS does have the Quad-DAC. However, the ported Qualcomm MusicFX APK can get great sound out of all G6 models, even without root access. On the stock ROM, it does tend to have some bugs with playback. You do have to use music applications with built in EQ settings (Google Play Music, Spotify, some others), but it's still very usable without root.

I want to use Viper4Android(VIPER-DDC), Xposed apps, and Key mapping, so ROOT is essential for me. I've been surviving with my Sony Xperia A or ZR, but then now I really need to upgrade my phone. My phone is too slow for the new apps. Sigh.
