All,

I just wanted to compile a list of steps and links I used for rooting my Sony Xperia T2 Ultra D5316. I have seen a limited amount of threads and information for our model and felt I should at least compile the information I used to obtain working root.

I did not create any of the mods or scripts used below and all credit goes to the developers.

Please use at your own risk and know that this will void your warrenty.

Files and links needed.

Supersu 2.40 by chain fire:
http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/

Dual recovery:
http://nut.xperia-files.com/ I used the flashable version.
Thread with instructions and link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/t2-ultra/development/t2-ultra-xzdualrecovery-qa-t2823793

Stock rooted rom for D5316:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-838sA5iRQxZG02clZQZEtHek0/view?usp=sharing
Thread with instructions and link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/t2-ultra/development/t2-ultra-d5303-4-4-3-pre-rooted-stock-t2962677

CWM:
http://doomlord.xperia-files.com/?dlid=VDJVLVNTX0Rvb01Mb1JEX0FkdlN0a0tlcm5lbF9GVy0yMDdfdjAx
Thread with instructions and link:

Bootloader unlock link from Sony:
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/

Use this thread to get fast boot and drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440597

Steps I used to obtain root with the links above.

1. First thing is to unlock the boot loader so you can flash a recovery, I used the official method from Sony.

2. Download and save the Supersu zip, Dual recovery and Stock rooted ROM to your root of the internal SD storage.

3. Boot the device into fast boot using the power button and volume up button, then use the sony fast boot tool to flash CWM recovery. At this point your device will essentially be bricked, but the following steps will un-brick it.

4. Once you boot into CWM you will need to flash the Dual recovery. This took me a few tries before it actually took and installed...

5. Now you need to boot into the dual recovery, I used the power button and volume down button.

6. Once in the Dual recovery you will need to flash the stock rooted ROM. This is the part that un-bricks your phone.

7. Now before you reboot you will need flash SuperSU.

8. Reboot and install busybox and any tools that you need root for. Oh and enjoy root on your device.

Again use at your own risk!!!

If you have any question please feel free to ask.

At which point would you do a back-up of your TA partition since you need root...Although I saw someone else who said they used Flashtool to unlock BL and didn't lose their DRM keys. Thanks

I did not backup my TA partition or my DRM keys, as root was needed to back them up. Also I am not sure about the "Flashtool" method as I did not use that method, I chose to go the route Sony offers (Sony's route "May void your warrenty")... I did just check my DRM keys though and it seems that most of them are still intact, and all of them are still active.

So you put ALL the files on the phone NOT the sd card? I am going through all your steps and threads and just want to make sure I do things correctly. For other devices in the past I could watch a video or something to help in the process.

I put everything on the root of the phones storage so that I could make sure I was able to find it when I was ready to flash things. Best suggestion I can make is to make sure you install the Sony drivers and fastboot utility, and make sure you have all the files in place before you start because once you flash the CWM recovery you won't be able to boot into Android until you flash the dual recovery and flash the pre-rooted ROM. Also it took me flashing the dual recovery like 4 times before it would boot into it, and you will need to wait until you boot into the dual recovery before you flash the pre-rooted ROM and then flash the SuperSU. I tried flashing everything from the CWM recovery and I think that is what made me have to flash the dual recovery multiple times, once I flashed the dual recovery by itself and tried booting, it worked.

It took me about 3 days to go through all the different threads that had bits and pieces of information for the root... When you get done rooting, if you have any suggestions for the thread please let me know and I can edit.

Did you unzip all the files onto the internal storage? or keep them compressed "zip"?

Just leave them all zipped.
the only dual recovery I was able to install was the flashable version, the other "installer" failed(red triangle with an exclamation mark). is this correct?

but i wasn't able go into dual recovery. tired many combinations of power button and vol up/down but nothing would happen, I've concluded that it didn't install.

are there any other options?

I used the flash tool to reinstall the rom.
I was thinking if i can flash a D5303 rom would that make it easier..

I used flashtool to UL my BL. Just make sure you have your Sony unlock code. Then I used the Xperia Tool Kit v1.0 (google it) to flash the Kernal but also reboot into fastboot. But at first same thing happened to me trying to get into recovery, but it finally worked after I kept trying.

Just my guess but maybe you just need to install your device drives. You can use Flashtool for that. Also make sure you installed ADB and Fastboot drivers as well. There is also a "minimal_ adb_fastboot v1.2 setup.exe" you can use to install both at once, just google it.

YAY! done thanks GE3K.me and jameswood24

I edited the steps a little to maybe help others.
All files i used minus the stock rooted rom can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3gNYE1sqoKuZVcwb3hQSlN6cGc/view?usp=sharing

Steps I used for d5316 single sim:

1. First thing is to unlock the boot loader so you can flash a recovery, I used the official method from Sony.

2. Download and save the Supersu zip, Dual recovery zip and Stock rooted ROM zip to your SD card.

3. Boot the device into fast boot with Xperia Toolkit , then use the toolkit to flash CWM recovery "T2U-SS_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-207_v01". At this point your device will essentially be bricked, but the following steps will un-brick it.

4. Once you boot into CWM you will need to flash the Dual recovery"T2U-lockeddualrecovery2.8.4-RELEASE.flashable". This took me a few tries before it actually took and installed...

5. Now you need to boot into the dual recovery, I used the power button and held down volume down button untill phone vibrated two times and showed green LED.

6. Once in the Dual recovery you will need to flash the stock rooted ROM. This is the part that un-bricks your phone.

7. Now before you reboot you will need flash SuperSU.

8. Reboot and install busybox and any tools that you need root for. Oh and enjoy root on your device.

I have been unsuccessful trying to get the drivers with flashtool. The installs always fail
