Root

Any update on this device? seem like not many people using this phone model.
If i managed to port twrp, would anyone be willing to test?If so I think all we have to do is unlock bootloader with the tool Asus has on it's website flash twrp and then simply flash magisk or any root supersu or whatever you wanted.Magisk might work I don't know.

yes,i found out after posting it was back on the website

can try this https: //www .asus .com /us/Phone/ZenFone-Max-Plus-M1/HelpDesk_Download/
it was on the website two days after my previous post.Weird that it disappeared.I'll try porting twrp now, however our phone does use dm-verify and I read that in order to be able to have our phone boot we need to flash a custom kernel of which we have none.So therefore would i need to try to make a custom kernel?the problem only seems to get bigger, but ill try porting twrp first and we can go from there.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1/how-to/mod-decrypt-data-t3787311 found this so we can bypass dm-verify after flashing our ported twrp i think.

I did in fact port twrp are you still open to test it,I haven't tested it myself yet as I don't know what could happen if I did or how I would get out of any problems, first time porting something.

Boa noite,

Hello,

Is there any root for this device out? Asus has an OEM bootloader unlock. Any way I can root?

Thanks
It's easy enough to do download the firmware from their website, install the magisk manager apk. Then extract the firmware zip and locate boot.img file. Copy it either onto a sdcard or select file transfer on your phone and transfer to your phone. After doing so go back in to the magisk manager apk you installed select install->patch boot image file->locate the boot.img file you copied let it patch. After it patches make note where it saves, copy that "patched-boot.img" back to your computer(into the adb folder)and inside adb folder hold shift key+right click then open a command prompt window type "adb devices" without the quotes. Make sure usb debugging is enable in developer options after pressing build number 7 times.make sure your device is found after hitting enter on adb devices.type adb reboot bootloader. after your phone reboots into fastboot mode (there will be a little word on the bottom left of your phone screen) main screen will be powered by android rest is black. Now type fastboot devices to make sure your device is seen and then type fastboot flash boot "patched-boot.img". Then you'll be rooted. Make sure you unlock bootloader with their tool first.

hi, I am still with WW-14.02.1809.69 (latest version of android 7), UnlookTool wants a pin (?) to unlock the device... isn't possible flash only patched boot image using Flash Tool and scatter file? thank you

edit:
I risked... when with Flash Tool (tested with many versions) I press download, I have the following message:

ERROR: STATUS_SEC_AUTH_FILE_NEEDED (OxCC30012)
[HINT]:
Please select a valid authentication file or ask for help

Seems like you can get the unlocker here (use the latest link, it's called UnlockTool_9.1.0.12_190827_fulldpi.apk)
https://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-278013-1-1.html

EDIT: It doesn't work, and seems like it's impossible to unlock the bootloader of this phone for now. I am still looking for solutions.
EDITEDIT: Nevermind, it works but will have no indicating. If there is a txt file named "Unlock_Time.txt" and it contains the timestamp that you tried to unlock last time, then it's good and you can try to flash the patched boot.img.

Hello,
Yes, confirmed that unlock tools is working.
And also if you'll try to installing TWRP Recovery and root this phone, try searching "Zenfone Max Plus M1 root", and find the articles from "androidweblog dot com". (I can't copy paste the link because xda system not allowing me to insert external links)
